Yet again, a no-nonsense, highly instructional video showing exactly how to professionally deal with a tree that would perplex the average amateur like myself. No other bonsai channel comes close!
how you cut so fast and end up with such an amazing result just amazes me! Thank you for saying what you are doing and why as you do your videos, it's such a learning experience :)
Thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge. You are like a good chef in the kitchen. The skill and speed of your cuts tells a story of many years of experience. Cheers mate from Aus.
This video prompted me to drastically prune my Chinese Elm and it's now got so much new growth I can hardly believe it. Thanks for the inspiration. Grettings from Germany (via Ravenshead).
Been doing Bonsai now for quite a few years...and I love your videos. I always learn something new or a tidbit. Love from South Africa 🇿🇦 precision to the point Greenwood.
Such a Master at his work you clearly love your job? you make pruning that daunting looking large Chinese Elm so effortless and I for one can't wait to see it's progression
Excellent video, really enjoyed that. I bought several small Chinese elms from you many years ago and today they are all thriving indoors and are magnificent specimens now.
I visited this nursery a few days ago and was so amazed by the beauty of some of youre tree's I couldn't resist picking up a small Chinese elm. Perfect video for a beginner like myself thank you.
The speed with which you work is amazing. Your experience shows. That pruning would cost me three hours at least. And the result would be mediocre.😊 That was a great watch. Thanks!
As a newbie to this hobby have started off with one of these and the vid answered all my queries as to when and how prune my tree. Prompted me to order necessary tools from your website, so your work pays off! Thanks.
I have been a subscriber for some time now and enjoying the videos particularly the ones that has sort of a history like the ones that once belonged to your father 👍🏻
Brilliant video as ever for me the best you tube bonsai channel Two experienced local guys did the same to my big elm 3 years ago and it looks so much better now
I've a Chinese Elm a bit bigger than this one that I bought last year. It's not been pruned or repotted for at least two or three years and I'll be working on it soon so both this and your repotting video are coming in handy..
What's not to like with Chinese Elms. They are tolerant of bonsai techniques and if grown outside develop lovely small leaves and great ramification. Clearly they can deal with a hard early summer prune. Nice presentation showing what can be done.
Hi Corin dont know if it is correct to put these two words together....Horrendous perfection.. Really cant wait to see the follow up.. Again keep up the good RUclipss THANKS.
Thank you. I would not even know the first step to do for the big tree you shaped. Bravo! You are definitely a Master artist!. One thing I will say is to fix your sound Mic quality. I have all my speakers on high and the computer and your voice is still coming out soft. I would just invest in a clip on Mic or something to allow the sound and your voice to carry louder so your audience can hear you better. I so much thouroughly enjoyed your presentation so very much aside form the volume problem
Just been given a Chinese Elm and I've fallen in love with it. It's bit of a tangled mess. Is it safe to prune and cut back now in late December? This video has given me inspiration.
excelente, siempre me llama la atencion , el vigor y lo sanos que estan tus arboles e ahi mi pregunta anterior ,que usabas como nutriente, tambien el lugar donde haces tus videos esta siempre ordenado y limpio. un saludo
I purchased a Chinese Elm bonsai a year ago, and it has grown, then struggled, then bloomed then struggled since. It's leaves keep getting black spots on them, then it drops those...alot of them. Then it buds again and looks good for a bit...then black spot leaves, drop, repeat. It's an indoor, in window, South facing...lot's of sun light Southern California tree. Advise on how to get it stable?
I’m curious how much that elm 🌳 was when you purchased it? I know here in the USA 🇺🇸 if I’d had to guess retail at a store online you’d be looking at prob 2.5k-4k. I was actually was gong to purchase a Chinese elm tomorrow for $500 that’s over 30yrs old a real steal imo. Beautiful piece you have!!
Just bought a dwarf jade from you as my starter, planning to get chinese elm next year, just wondering what’s that you applied after you cut elm branches?
Do you grow you Chinese elms indoors during the winter? I’m getting my first one is a few days and it gets below freezing where I live. Should I keep it indoors during the winter?
I hope the owner watches this video and does the work themself next time. I always find it a shame how people own trees like this but don't experience the satisfaction that comes from working on the tree to improve it. That for me is what keeping bonsai is all about.
Most known bonsai in Japan are owned by rich ppl who keeps them at their Masters nursery. They don't work on it, they keep it to admire and enjoy when needed.
Hi, love your videos and also in particularly, I love your scissors that I were using to trim the small tree in the beginning….do you sell this style ?
I got a chinese elm that has 2 trunks that emerge from the soil and then converge into 1 trunk a couple inches above the soil. What is this condition called?
I have an ~12 year chinese elm, which I kept indoors the most part of its life. I didnt care for him very intense the last 2-3 years, but gave him water regulary, so he is okay, but didnt grow very much. Would it make sense to plant him in a large Pot or bucket and let him grow outside for 1-2 years on the balcony ?
Love the video! Thank you for the advice. My only complaint is that it hurt my soul when you cut the bottom branches around 4:14. They would have been so nice for developing more taper!
It would hardly make any difference now its in a bonsai pot, unless grown out really long and therefore robbing energy from the bits we wanted to leave.

Hi Sam, 👍
Perfect timing I was just planning on pruning my Chinese elm at some point over this week
What a transformation! Great to watch it being done so skilfully. Looking forward to seeing it again in a few weeks time.

Could you put a time lapse on the tree for the coming weeks? That would make an interesting follow up.
We thought about but as it is in a heated greenhouse its hard to photograph and it gets moved around so hard to get a static shot over time.

Wow ..scary but educational..I just got 3 Chinese elms 3 years old....this is what I need in terms of knowing about the tree
