  • One of my favorite things about homeschooling is reading lots of great books with my kids. As I prepare for this coming school year I've purchased several read aloud chapter books that I'm looking forward to reading with them. I also have a list of audiobooks that we can work our way through this year. Do you enjoy reading with your kids too?

      We just found the Ranger in Time books and really enjoy them. My daughter also like the Horse Diaries about periods of history. Some have better reviews than others, but the few we've read have been good.

    Loved Carry On, Mr Bowditch. So inspiring. The Ranger in Time series is fun as well. I'm always on the lookout for adding the YWAM books to our homeschool.

    We have studied early American for the past 3 years. There are so many great books for the time period. We really enjoyed The Scarlet Stocking Spy and others by Trinka Hakes Noble. It was a beautiful picture book.❤
    We are moving to Mystery of History this year and starting in book 1. We are excited to learn about ancient cultures. 😃

    Your choices look exciting. Out of all the books we got for next year super excited for "the year of miss Agnes" and "the cricket in time square". We love hoopla too.

    Love these! I have SO many books but I can't stop searching for new recommendations. We read The Wild Robot this year but contrary to popular opinion, I didn't love it. This summer we are reading Little House on the Prairie and Farmer Boy, and once the school year starts we will read Trumpet of the Swan. Plus I have a huge stack of history read alouds for modern US history this year!

    We did Mr. Bowditch this year. I really liked it but my girls thought it was too slow. We also did Toliver’s Secret this year. This was one of my girls favorites.

    I love the verses in your description. May God bless you with a smooth delivery and healthy baby! Also, I liked how you mentioned audio books. I am completely blind and most of my reading in school was done via audio. Some of it was also braille.

      @@CalledtoCultivate I don't read a whole lot anymore, but I'm glad I know about some in case I want to start reading again! I read the bible in braille though so I can read and focus a little more. You and others have the advantage of just being able to put a little bible in your purse or backpack and take it out whenever you want. For me, I have different volumes for different books because braille takes up a lot of space. To give you an idea, I have around 3 boxes of books for the bible.

      Have you used the audio bible on the “youversion” app? It’s a nice feature to have the scripture read aloud while I’m making lunch or folding laundry.

    Thanks for sharing your book list! We loved "Bound for Oregon". Also, "Amos Fortune" is a hard book to read because it clearly shows the sad truth of slavery in America, but it is a good thing to teach our children about. Be prepared to have some frank discussions with your children about that. Some of your other suggestions for your son and your next daughter are going on my youngest two kids' wish lists because they are about the same age, and I think they would like them. So excited for the next little one to arrive!

    Our library doesn't support hoopla (our old one did). It's a bummer because the app they use doesn't have nearly as many good audio books

    • @CalledtoCultivate
      @CalledtoCultivate  3 года назад

      It’s the same way for my Mom. There is the “Libby” app, but it’s not as good in my opinion. I know hoopla costs money for libraries to partner with and it might not be in the budget for some areas. 😔
