- Lawn destroyed in the spring? Seems like an excellent starting point to me. Winter can wreak havoc on a lawn with winter kill, rodent damage, snow mold, and all manner of destruction. Toady we are taking a look at my starting point and and loading the content cannon for 2024.

Felt, on so many levels brother. Even the muddy dog. Kicked in the nuts and keep on going
The shoes 🔥
I did a heavy fall fertilizer program last fall as I was fighting grub damage which I’ll put out preventative this year to take care of that. But the grass definitely greened quicker and has come out more than anyone else’s this spring and was just overall ahead and greener throughout winter.
Nice
The fact you can maintain a lawn just outside PC is impressive. I worked for a lawncare company during college and those lawns were riddled with weeds, etc. Rodents suck. My KBG is pretty dang green right now in the lower valley. I saw a Gary in the lawn along the edge and plucked that sucker right out.
I’m starting to see swelling buds on the quakies up here right now, the lawn coming out of dormancy is way better than years past. I’m going to be cranking on it soon enough
Damn moles are terrible for me every year as well, back yard is a timber area and the opens up to cow pasture that hasn’t had animals on it in years so those moles have free reign of it. I guess I’ll put additional products to try to keep them out?! I might check out milky spore, maybe that’s something that’ll work for you as well JP?
I’ve let it go because I live around wild habitat anyway. There are many hawks and falcons here that I dont really want to poison their food supply or cause any damage to the raptors. I doubt I’ll ever do anything to stop them.
Good luck brother. Can’t wait to see how you fix it.👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
It’ll be great. I’ll do something. Then wait. Then do something. Then wait… makes for an epic 😂
We're at 4000ft out here in Farr West. This is the first year I haven't had any vole damage. Yay! Those little pissers can sure tear up a yard. I feel your pain.
Good evening
Nice preview of the season start for you. Kinda reassuring to see every lawn has its challenges. Fighting voles looks tough. Gives me perspective that my fight on poa and getting shade grass in the right places isn’t really so tough. Thanks.
Curious, is vole damage or impact isolated to winter?
Yes, they burrow under the snow and feed on the grass all winter
You have an amazing amount of patience. Not sure I could look at that and not start doing something....But then again, I live in South Texas and we dont have your issues. :)
Yeah, just got to wait for a few more days and I can get going. Typically second week of April I’m getting in it pretty deep. We’ve got some days coming of sunshine and high 50’s which will wipe out most of the rest of the snow. I think I’ll have some piles in corners for a bit but it’ll be enough to start cleanups
The hair looks good buddy. I am looking forward to you fixing lawn/ green again .
Thanks boss. I’m ready
Still early I’m sure it’s gonna turn out fine love the dog he’s got the zoomies down to a science
Totally
Yes. Yes it is. And we gotta do our project. It’s time 🙌🏻🤘🏻
I’m down. I’ve got your treasure still in a box
Pile a hose coming soon! Can’t wait!
John, I put out Tom cat vole repellent. I take 1.5 inch pvc pipe cut to 12 inches, cap one end and place up against a structure. Voles come for a snack and die looking for water. I put these out before first snow
I’ll look into it but I don’t know that I’ll actually so anything. Food for the hawks and falcons up here
The lawn just like golf love/hate love it. Fox it move on. Let’s goooooooo JP. Another fine lawn season has arrived.
I’m ready to work bro! Jonesing to get after it
Might need to get some Turfmend from Jeff.
For sure
Hey John, looks like you’ve got your work cut out for you. Guess it’s a trade off to have that gorgeous view in your yard. Any updates coming soon on your new granular ?
Granular updates will be later spring. Got some good things cooking
Thumbs up JP. Every year brings a new challenge, Might want to try some windmills, them little vermes can't stand the vibrations and will move away, Works on birds and maybe Dear,
I’ll check on that
I was dismayed by the large brown patch that hit the front yard this year. It’s nothing compared to your mess. We have no snow of course in Houston but the cats in the neighborhood are like a plague. They clear out every small and furry. Even the river rats are all gone.
I’m back to just a 4ft area that still recovering. Just put down some green effect to get all the new growth to match and greenpunch as part of my first double dark + application. I started doing the neighbors on both sides this year. It should be dark green goodness all over this side of the street. Looking forward to the hydr8 for the heavy clay soil. The microgreensk and the iron+ look interesting as well. Hopefully Allyn The Lawn Care Nut will add these to his store. ✌️
And here I am thinking how bad my lawn looks right now coming out of Winter and no fert apps in the last 5 months. 🤦♂. Be grateful for the small things I guess.
lol. We all start somewhere and roll with the punches
Deer looked at my guy like, "You need to get to work so we can eat your lawn.😂😂😂😂😂
After lasts years vole damage i put out vole poison stations. Of course this year we didn’t get much snow. I’ll be ready next year again
Im going to do that next year.
Nothing a few sticks of good ole fashioned dynamite can't remedy

Long time viewer, new subscriber. Question. I’m going to hit lawn hard this season, coastal NC with St. Aug. normal applications are: humic12, RGS, micro green, 18-3-6 fertilizer w/ micros, chelated iron liquid or ironite, spectracide insecticide once annually. Water/ mow is frequent enough to not be a factor. How do I bump it up a notch? Also I core aerate and dethatch by rake annually? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thank you
Caddy Shack'em!
John how different was winterizing the irrigreen system? Not sure if it was mentioned last fall.
Super simple.
Is your lawn KBG, mine is an severe moles damage grows out pretty quick. I rake up all the dead stuff and 1 to 2 weeks or mowing it ok again.
Yeah it will be quick
It's crazy how I've been having way below average snow fall the last 2 years and you're way above.
What happened to the brown dog?
Herky passed away last month. 16 years of family time. He was awesome.
@@Lawncology I'm sorry to hear that.
Is there no preventative for voles and snow mold?
Yes. Timing with propiconazole will prevent most of snow mold problems. Vole traps and poisons are available.
@@Lawncology you need more vole traps, poisons and time your propiconazole better. 💪
@@steffen707- I do
John, did you lose your big old brown dog? I noticed the new party colored dog and was watching for the older one.
I did. He passed away this year, the puppy was his assistant for his last 6 months. He made it to 16
@@LawncologyAww.😢 sorry for that loss of your buddy. He's guarding the lawn in Dog Heaven though. ❤
