Hello! Please help! After applying sand top dressing (half m3 /100m2) and smoothing it with a leveling rake, I noticed that no matter how I try to level the area, there remain tender, thin and weak horizontally lying blades of grass under the sand. Should I worry about them, or will they come out after a few days? They emerge as a result of a water jet (or water sprayed from half a meter away), but this slightly erodes the effect of leveling because it re-excavates the area filled with sand between the larger clumps of old grass, and can also displace upturned seeds and fertilizer particles. So far, I have applied only half of the planned amount of top dressing, I don't dare to spread more, I would like to wait until the grass grows a little (I cut it into short pieces before aerating the lawn). At the same time, I don't think I can wait too long, because I sowed fast-germinating seeds, and once the new grass comes, it shouldn't be necessary to loosen the soil. What do you advise?
My lawn is still suffering from all the rain we have had in Bury. Will it be to any detriment to the lawn by scarifying, seeding and top dressing much later than usual when we get some dry weather ?
That is ironic. Thanks for the reply. Gig lane pitch is a disaster this year, they are going to lay 3G pitch this summer, don’t suppose wanderers have that problem.
Hi Daniel thoroughly enjoyed the video as always, very informative and entertaining. Did I get you right, should I hold off putting any fertilizer down when overseeding until the new seedlings are coming through? Cheers
My plan was to renovate soon but I’ve just noticed there’s loads of slender Speedwell all over one side of the lawn. The weed killer I used a few weeks back has somehow made it worse!🤦♂️ Might wait till I’ve killed it off to renovate!
Really great video! I need to get a seed slotter but my shed is packedd to the ceiling lol. I'm making a lawn right now. it's about 55-60% rootzone sand and the rest is mostly dark fenland silt. Is that a good texture for grass to grow in? I purchased sand and silt separatly as thats all i could get delivered ewithout having a stack of pallets i can't get rid off. It's interesting to see their pure state but mixing it with a rake for 10 hours straight for 4 days is not fun.
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Ahh good idea.. It will be too late to change it by then but I can get a goot idea if root depth etc. Also it could be a fun test to see how it grows in pure silt. I'm finishing the last third (2 inches) in about a week and may increase the sand a little bit as surface drainage will allow the water to go down to the roots a little better. I'm not sure if thats a good idea of just stick to water I have been doing.
My neighbour recently had a visit from their lawn contractor and they used an powered aerator, not sure I have seen you mention those, what’s your opinion on them?

Why not use a lawn leveller over a rake for the soil spreading, or at least finish with one, for a better finish?
Nothing wrong with my finish thank you
The KLF said It's Grim Up North, fortunately for us they never saw your work.
Hi, i have just purchased some equilibrium , how often should i use it
Every 6-8 weeks
That’s the name wetting agent that you advise using please
H2go on my website link in description
Hi
I’ve laid new turf and it has developed brown patches
I’ve applied your products aswell as equilibrium
Anything else I can do?
Cheers
My lawn is still suffering from all the rain we have had in Bury. Will it be to any detriment to the lawn by scarifying, seeding and top dressing much later than usual when we get some dry weather ?
Is your lawn the gigg lane pitch?
No you will prob just ironically have to water more
That is ironic.
Cheers
Yep
Thanks a lot@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert
Thanks Daniel.
I want to do a similar job to my small lawn but dont have the spray equipment, what could substitute this?
Watering can
My plan was to renovate soon but I’ve just noticed there’s loads of slender Speedwell all over one side of the lawn. The weed killer I used a few weeks back has somehow made it worse!🤦♂️ Might wait till I’ve killed it off to renovate!
It wont if made it worse thats how it works it attacks the plant will grow to try to fend off the attack but it will get it eventually
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Ah ok, I’ll give it a bit longer then!👍🏻
Really great video!
Why not grow some on your window sill see what happens in the mixture?
I would love to actually be able to even get on the lawn but sadly it’s still sodden from this horrible climate we have
Can you use just normal topsoil by Westland for the dressing?
Wouldnt myself or i would be, to many weed seeds in these top soils as they freshly dug so not weed seed treated
Great video mate do you have a link for the slotter?
Surely the scarifying grooves would have been good enough for the seed bed?
They get closed up more often than not with the mower
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert thanks for advice
Great video as always!
Guys, what herbicide can i use to kill off my grass to start again? ]
Roundup but the grass and whatever you kill will just rejuvenate so gotta also remove the top section
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert When you say the top section, you mean like the top 3" or so that has roots in?
@@WayneJones-dk1ez yes
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Thanks Dan! 👍
How deep do you scarify?
Today prob 5mm in the ground
