Great recone job I love watching you work So much that reconed a car 15 to a 8 ohm coil for home use After watching some of your rebuilds I was successful and it plays fantastic Thank you for the great videos
Pro tip: when rasping the opening in the spider, put a washer loosely between the rasp and the chuck of the drill and keep the washer flush against the spider to help cut away at it evenly.
Awesome content!! Not sure I'd ever take on building a sub... But seems like a fun thing to do, though... Especially knowing the enjoyment you get out of the end result
I recently came acrossed a really good deal on some crossfire xsv4 15s but only have 3 of them and was wanting to do what you did here. Question I have is I wanna make them into 21s. Do you think that the motors would have enough ass for 21s. Will be ran in a 6th order as well. Thanks
I've run into that with those too. Sometimes you have to drill the heads out to get the basket off then put pliers on the shaft and take it out. I hate doing that.
the music at 29: 54 is really cool. it's the traveler of the song I think it's called echoes. just put that on my Spotify playlist. also one thing I notice about your subwoofer builds is that I don't hear any kind of like mechanical noise and I'm not talking about just bad installation but the subs at you build are really clean I mean I don't hear that much Distortion at all even when you're free airing it really cool man good job!
With those skills can you re-work the Rockville K-9 Subs (either revision) and make them durable? A kinda video on what the manufacturer should have done and what you did to correct the issue.
It's simply not worth rebuilding one of those from a cost analysis standpoint. There is one thing I don't do is do other companies R&D work, which is what I'd be doing if I pointed out what's wrong with it in detail and said how to fix it. If they paid me to re-engineer it I would.
looked like that little gap on the surround worked out to be beneficial. turned out perfectly uniform, maybe that could prevent the creasing you see at max excursion on some surrounds?
you used spacers on this, so before setting up the coil do you add whatever the measurement of the spacer to the top plate measurements for example top plate is 1/2" and spacer 1/2" so now the top of the plate will be 1"?
I reused them so I didn't have to get a bunch of bolts I'd probably never use again. I had shorter and longer and it costs more to buy fewer than more of them. Quite often when they're phillips they're not metric either, so I'd definitely never have a use for them.
No loctite or glue over the screws? I just tore down hifonics 400wrms 12. It had its coil broken away and screws loose. Luckly the basket is glued down.
Same as before. I won't rate something higher than what it was without testing it to ensure it will take it. Anyone who does is blowing smoke up your ass to make a sale.
where did you get the coil at what size i need to recone my crossfire 18 its the same model but i neeed the specifics to rebuild mine and im not skilled in finding out all the info to recone mine ould you please help me with the indfo i need for the parts please and maybe where you got them
Great video. Just have a question regarding the spacing. I know subs have screens in place to ensure debris doesn’t get into the coil area. Should you not have added one?
Do you mean on the basket or on the pole? In the case of the pole that effects cooling, in the case of the basket I'd say a strong number of subs don't have that mesh. Depending on the fluid dynamics of cooling, the mesh could reduce it by up to 50% and even aside from that, it's not a common problem to have something large going there. It doesn't keep dust out, the holes are quite large so it's more than particles coming through. It has to be something bigger than would be in an enclosure.
This might be a stupid question but I only ask as I am rebuilding some subs for my self for first time..what kinda glues and adhesive do you use and or recommend..do you use the same adhesive for the spider landing and for the top or do you use 2 different kinds..I no all builders have there own way of building..again just curious as I am taking any info I can soni don't make a mistake.. Again thank you for any information you can provide..
EMF Audio I wish you could study the difference of both the 12" and the 18" running on music and spl. from that motor. Maybeish you could do it? Yes the 18 is the master. Who would not want an 18" sub to run anywhere car or whatnot.
Why 18's receive the same magnet as a 12" or 15" within the same lineup? More control of the cone area would be needed therefore needing a bigger magnet right? I dont doubt them I simply wonder why. EMF, Sundown, Skar all do this.
A bigger size doesn't mean less control. Control are aspects of electrical (coil and motor interaction) and suspension (spiders and surround compliance). Some might argue that the larger cone has more mass and more mass is harder to control but Sundown 10's for example can have more moving mass than an 18" cone on another brand or series. The simple answer is, there isn't a need for a different motor in most cases. If the motor is barely sufficient for a 10 or 12 then going larger might suck, or if it's ridiculous on an 18" it would be too much for a 10 or 12.
Man thats fucking dope. Ive always wanted to build my own subs either some bad ass 15s or 18s and i know you told how to find subs to rebuild but I live in Hurst, TX. Have no idea where any sub warehouses are here
Also see ppl use accelerator on parts that spray cannot penetrate.. Magnetics..not true either...ik Slower a glue drys in with subject to below optimal temperature the stronger the bond.. I know this for a fact. Not a lier
@@bobdodge3171 yeah, it would take 6 days because without accelerator you'd have to wait 24 hours for every joint to dry. Put a bead down, wait 24 hours, put a bead down, wait 24 hours. Accelerator makes it dry enough to keep working, not 100% strength instantly. It takes 8 hrs to bond 100% strength with accelerator. Now you're putting stipulations on it like below optimal temperature, what about humidity? Nearly everyone is building in a controlled environment or at least not trying to build stuff near freezing. I've built subs and put 30,000 watts on them 12 hrs later without failure so I feel pretty confident strength isn't an issue.
I feel like it would have been more economical to just buy brand new subwoofers. Considering you need to change the basket as well as the voice coil and cone. But I guess if that is what the customer is asking for, then by all means they have the right to do as they wish.
i feel so much pain when i see him cut this nice surround with this sharp knife.i feel like he is cutting through my skin and feel the tip of the knife scratching my bones. very painful to watch
So why did it work then? It's a mechanics trick. Making it swell breaks the chemical bond that's happened on the threads. You also don't heat it up then immediately try to remove it because the material could be weakened. You wait till it cools back down.
@@EMFAudio I'm glad it worked......this time. A mechanic would have gotten an Impact Driver to get it out. They are inexpensive and quick. I hope you have Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! The speaker turned out nice, keep up the awesome work.

I can do it, just gotta ship them to me, or just motors.
Hey buddy thanks for the video.
Question. Why use several spider. Why not use one ?
1 spider can only be used in extremely low power applications. Like, under 200 watts.
@@EMFAudio thank you so much for the info. I have a project I'm working on bot I need 6.5 subs can that size be made custom at 200 watts ?

Crazy glue

Sooo.. u made him a sundown sa18 with a crossfire motor? Lol im kidding good job looked awesome and great work
HaHa! Thanku! and merry xmass and a happy new year!
The pink stitching on the tinsel leads look a lot like a psi spider pack.
Exactly what I thought as soon as I seen that pink! Lol
Where do you get all your parts?
Why do you use E 6000 to clue the surround down, instead of the black glue you used on the spiders and former
CA glue can dry out foam, making it brittle and tear free.

All of them were already turned into 18's, but there are a ton of variables between those things in the vehicle alone, aside from sub to sub.

Blown subs to rebuild are going to be a used market thing, from wherever you can find them.
I was wondering if your 15 inch rev1 dual 4ohm could handle a kicker zx1500.1 at 2 ohms and what are your warrantees?
Warranty covers using it at a rated spec, outside of that is your own risk.
What size is that motor? It looks pretty close to my u-series
It's a little bigger than a U series I believe, I don't have the exact dimensions.
Great Vid! I'd like to contact you about converting a machete Super Sport 15 into an 18! It's a deaf bonce 1300 watt RMS subwoofer.
Shoot me a message from our contact form on our website www.emfcaraudio.com
What about the weight of the new cone ??
It weighs more than the 12.
Do you sell parts? I didn't see anything listed on your website.
We've got some stuff listed in the yard sale, which I need to update. A few motors, some baskets, some cones.
Check out Lord of Bass. You name it they probably got it.
That's a lot of clamps lol
Yes it moves... but what about t/s parameters it could be useless
No matter the parameters, it has a usage to fit those parameters.
Do you build any 8in subs?
We do, our Ghost line is currently only in 8's, actually. www.emfcaraudio.com
I wonder how many ppl r gonna freak out about u slicing up a good sub, cuz they have no clue whats actually going on
Even though I have a clue it hurt me deep down haha. I wouldn't mind having those other spare parts that were ripped off.
I know you're making something much better but all I could think when you're cutting that 12 is "NOOO! NO! STOP IT! NO!"
O m God I need you to built me one...
Does that sub still take the same power or what
Yes, power handling is a function of the coil, motor, and suspension. It has nothing to do with the cone size.
Ouch it hurts to see you cut out those perfect subs
Or you can save the whole assembly and just unscrew the basket... in case you wanna go back to 12s lol
No locktite?
Not necessary, never use it, hundreds and hundreds of subs.
