I mean, they can't do the same like adrenalize already although it's kinda suck to release slang but they had to due to alternative rock and grunge taking over the scene and their brand of rock in the mid 9ps is not that popular anymore. Even bon jovi had to step down and make bluesy rock album
Viv basically replaced Steve Clark, and with that came all Steve's regular solos etc. And if you are any kind of Def Leppard fan, then listen to the more recent albums, Euphoria and Songs From The Sparkle Lounge, you will hear that he has a whole heap of solo work. Phil never made him just play rhythm at all, so that was a bit unfair and ignorant. Anyway, this is the best version of a Viv solo I have found. Thank you for this!
@Randall Slaughter I absolutely agree! He was a guitar God with Dio and he shredded the hell out of that guitar. It seems like the guitarist for a White Snake and Def Leppard found him threatening to their Almighty crowns, and justifiably so because Vivian Campbell is indeed a guitar God.
@@JohnBrown-uq6ul I agree his contract must have a clause the forbbids shredding, at least until Phill Collen ( a great guitarist but not a god ) can be able to shred. 😃
@@JohnBrown-uq6ul He never stopped shredding, his musical flair simply just changed over the years. He played most of the lead for Whitesnake, understandable as Gary Moore influenced both him and Sykes. Heck, he even built one of the greatest Super-Strats that just got rereleased a few years back, right before he joined with WS, in addition to partnering with a bunch of up-and-coming shred-y style guitar makers. It appears his style changed more and more because he go hooked on the Floyd Rose style of playing. You can see the progression of his style mirror his developing technique of the FR. In 84 he was barely using it and when you jump to 85 he's incorporating it consistently. In WS it became a fluid part of his playing and by the time he finished with Lou Gramm and did Riverdogs's first album, he had shifted from Super Strats to just heavily modified Strats, circa 92 (when he joined Def Leppard). With his changing guitars, he had also developed a new sound system when he got his supped up effects/amp rack in WS that he modified throughout the late 80s/early 90s. He has a lot of chorus-y and delay type sounds from that system, not something typical of his DIO days. Today, in addition to Def Leppard, he has his project Last in Line, where he shreds all over his DIO era songs just like the golden days, and he hasn't lost his touch one bit; if anything, because of his years of wisdom playing for so long, his DIO playing is tighter than ever. He is an absolute guitar legend, but not just because he was Dio's guitarist, but because of all the works he's done.
no one can EVER replace the lyrical and musical genius of DL and Viv has humbly said so MANY times. He cannot play GOW - his words verbatim. But he is imo a far better player than Collen. Underused shamefully by Sav/Elliot. He is also the best backing signer in the band, that is from Phil again verbatim.
Vivan still plays quite a few of the solos but now they have shorter shows and neither viv or phil play their 10 minute solos anymore..the adrenalize tour they did..and had a longer setlist..viv still plays the solos in gods of war..bringing on the heartbreak..armageddon it and let it go..high n dry when they play it and he plays the solos with phil on hysteria..sugar..switch 625 rocket so he still plays half the solos on the setlist.
Great stuff. I've always loved Viv's playing. Saw the original Dio a few times. It's not for me to say that some of his playing has rubbed off on me but, he's definitely been an inspiration and an influence.
If you find yourself putting a certain guitarists styled licks into your improv Even if fretted differently or change a mode You bet your ass it's for you to say
My introduction to VC was Holy Diver, and I’ve been a big fan ever since. Nice solo, that’s some sweet pickin at the end!
Saw them when he first joined them. Great guitarist!
I was there that night
Me too:-)
I hear a lot of Gary Moore in his playing. And it sounds FANTASTIC!
Great playing Vivian
Self indulgent? Perhaps. But patient, melodic, structured, flowing, smooth and shreddy in a spots? All of the above.
Not to mention a MONSTER tone
Fans were thinking "man, the next album is going to be amazing" !!!!!!!!! Then, Slang........

Tasty 👅
Just doesn't look like Viv fits into the band even with his look...and that's in 2023!
You a legend vivian campbell.....
I thing phil is the worst guitarist ever
"worst guitarist ever" ??
Thats a pretty big claim.
Phil most likely can spell better than you.
