    Hi Neil, Thank you for the new tractor owner orientation video. I just bought a small subcompact tractor and all the information was very relevant even though it is a much smaller tractor. This is a great video to watch if you just bought your first tractor no matter what size.

    Great video for new owners. Looking back years ago when I purchased my first tractor I wish the dealer had showed me how to get three point implements on and off. I can do it like a nascar pit crew does tires now days, but I remember years ago my neighbors’ ears probably bled when I tried to change them.

    I cannot thank you enough for your videos! I am new to your channel and have watched many of your uploads, some repeatedly, during the past two weeks. I took delivery of a new MX5400 today and this video is what got me up and running. Unfortunately, I received zero help from my dealer. They had some delivery driver just drop it off and leave. The education you provide is immense and much appreciated. If I lived close to you, I would be happy to purchase any of the products you all carry. Tonight ,I did order one of your brush guards for my new tractor. Please keep up the good work and know that we appreciate what you do. The guidance you provide is immeasurable. Thanks, again!

  • @pyroman6000
    @pyroman6000 6 лет назад +11

    Nice walk through! And you're right- most manuf's units are going to be pretty close to this, save any options or unique features. Color coding makes sense- and some go the additional step of using different heights/shapes to help you find the right control by feel, too. An example would be Deere's PowerReverser tranny. Both range and shift levers are on your Right side, so the range shifter is shorter and the knob is a different shape- just to help make sure you grab the right one. Also never fails to amaze/amuse me how fearful some folks on youtube are of emissions systems. They really aren't that big a deal- esp now that we're several generations in, and much of the problems have been engineered out. I hated the concept of DEF- until I got a truck that had it. It's been FAR more reliable than the DPF only trucks I had before. Those worked great, when I first got them, but as it wore- I spent more time broken down than driving... I'm 330,000 miles in on this truck, and this is the first time I've had it worked on- and it was the result of a check engine light, NOT a breakdown,lol. I'll take the extra couple minutes to fill an extra tank every 2 or 3 fill ups over constant problems any day!

      I honestly don't understand the hate a lot of modern diesels get. I'm more of a truck guy than a tractor guy, but there is so much fear and hatred for modern engines, it's ridiculous. Looking at power numbers, modern engines are making double the power and torque, with equal or better mileage, and drastically less emissions. I'm lucky that I grew up after and away from the crazy smog and pollution of years gone by, but who would want to return to that? It just doesn't make sense.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 4 года назад

      I think the fear and hatred is due to a lot of the forums online with all the nightmare horror stories of failures, damage, etc. I'm not a diesel/tractor guy, soon to be tractor owner though....but the little diesel experience I have is with old mechanical diesels. Yep I have heard the stories about the DPF/DEF system failures, huge expensive repairs, etc. But, I think a lot has to do with the way people treat their equipment, most just beat the crap out of it, then whine when it breaks down rather than taking care of stuff.
      I don't mind the diesel stuff, just haven't had the need for a diesel...well up until I purchase my first tractor that I should have had 30 years ago LOL.

    Thanks so much for this and for your other videos. Salesmen must realize they are selling information as much as product. At least if they want to sell product. Information is the added value a salesman/dealer brings to the table, or doesn't. Two of my decisions between orange and green have been based on dealers. Such as those who even bother to communicate and those who don't bother.
    I have watched your videos a lot because I am getting my first hydro tractor, a B2601. I have had three previous gear tractors. My Dad gave me a short lesson on my first, his B6100, when he gave it to me. The rest I have learned on my own. But I have never had a loader! And today's tractors have so many more features beside that complex attachment.

    Thank you Niel, a very useful video for the first time user like me. If you ever re-make this video, could I make one recommendation would be to mention that when adjusting the cutting height on a mid-deck Kubota tractor you need to have the deck fully raised before you can make any adjustments. Doesn't say this in the manual and took me a visit to a dealership to find out about having it raised. Might help a few other owners out there.

    I am a new Kubota L3901 owner with a standard transmission. The dealer wanted to make sure I knew how to drive a stick which I assured him I had. Well come to find out this is not like driving any stick shift in a car! You have to stop before shifting? You can imagine my surprise shifting from first to second gear! So just how do you use these gears? You would not stop your car to shift from first to second. The point being that you graduate speed to get up to a desired running speed. If you want to drive the tractor to a location say down the road, would you start out in 3rd gear because that would be the “cruising” gear? I’m lost. So far I have only stayed in 1st gear. ( I got my tractor a few days ago) my only experience with tractors was my 210c JD years ago. Completely different beast. (Loved that tractor) Love your videos btw. I’m subscribed!

    ALWAYS put your key on the contact position first before starting the engine. This way, the fuel pump can build up pressure. Never rev the engine in the first 10 seconds, since the oil isn't at full pressure and the camshafts don't have oil yet.

    At 7:21 while describing the height adjustment of the three point hitch I notice a gray roundish knob. Is that something that you can use to lock in your three point hitch height, a margin so to speak? I watched another video on comparisons of the Kubota and those green tractors. The gentleman was showing how the green tractor had a way to reference where you want your three point hitch to rest when it is in the working mode. (The Kubota he demonstrated only had the quarter inching mechanism to show the difference.) For instance I'm mowing at height "3" but I see an obstacle that might ruin my mower so I raise my hitch then move it back to the level "3" which I have set as my margin. I digress but, I assume that is what the gray knob does?

There have been several times that I'm at about 96% but I'm also nearly done with the task at hand. How do you put fuel into this thing. Hold a 5 gallon can of fuel up over the hold is tough and messy!

    Hi Neal I have an l4701 as well as an mx5200 and an m7060 and the l4701 has run about 60 hours now without going through a regen, I haven’t stopped any regens from happening it just hasn’t gone through it. And I was just wondering if I should take it through a parked regen?

      Tyler Johnson Do you run at high rpm

    • @tylerjohnson3449
      @tylerjohnson3449 6 лет назад

      THE RELAX KID yes I usually only use it for mower worker so I’m almost always at 540

      Just as Neal states in most of his videos about the dpf and regens. High rpms makes less soot. Have you went through a regen yet

    • @tylercorbin8073

      But it might be a good idea to go through A parked regen just to be save

      No worries. You can check the soot load meter on the dash if you're curious. I just keep going until it runs.

    on a ground contact mmm like on the B2650...does the PTO lever control the height? Or do you have to get off tractor and manually adjust all 4 wheels everytime you want to change the mow height??

    • @MessicksEquip
      @MessicksEquip  6 лет назад +1

      All ground contact decks cannot be adjusted from the tractor. If it has tractor adjustments, it's not a floating deck.

      @@MessicksEquip ok, I want a belly mower but think it will be aggravating having to get off tractor every single time I want/need to change mow height!! Could you do a video about the mmm deck on the B2650 or B3350 so I could see how it works etc?? I am a visual learner and your videos always help me.

    If you have auto glow plugs, is it bad to skip the glow plugs while they’re still heating?

      As lot as they are not needed at the time, I can't see how it would be.

      Nope, no issues, most new will continue to run after the starting attempt and initial run until up to temp needed

    In the process of looking to buy a tractor and was wondering about what kind of diesel fuel I need to buy. Is it just the normal diesel that u can buy at the gas station or do I need a special ag fuel?

    • @audiomantim
      @audiomantim 6 лет назад +3

      There's really only one type of diesel fuel (not to go into biodiesel or plant based products that have operate similarly to petroleum based diesel.) There is only one type of diesel you can buy at the gas station. The only difference is there is a diesel that has a red dye added to it. Dyed diesel isn't taxed the same as regular diesel and is suitable for use in off highway equipment (tractors, construction heavy equipment, etc.) but when dyed diesel isn't available, regular non-dyed diesel will work just fine. You'll just pay more for the tax on it.
      P.S. Don't get caught putting dyed diesel in your pickup truck. The government doesn't like to be cheated.

      Messick Farm Equipment How to shift, a non HST tractor L series. What gears to use for loader work, brush hogging, and rear blade work. Why is there 2 throttles? What is the clutch needed for? Is PTO engaged different? I was looking for one, but it seems HST is all that is out there.

    I have a question about the explanation of the hydrostatic pedal. I'm pretty familiar with automotive and aviation mechanics but new to tractors. This explanation suggests not depressing the whole way and this video ruclips.net/video/IfxcZOoRz6g/видео.html suggests pretty much the exact opposite. Clearly they can't both be correct

    I have, for the last 8-10 months, contacted Multiple Kubota dealers to purchase a new Kubota. NOT MESSICKS. As a very capable operator and coowner of Kubotas for over 40 years I am beyond disappointed with these dealers because they seemingly don’t/ won’t cooperate with a woman who is a widow. A man/ person used to be as good as his word, but I have lost faith in that honest premise. My husband and I would pay off a 3 piece Kubota set and turn around and buy a new one. The promises these 3 men made me didn’t hold water. As usual the good ole boys don’t want my business. They are not upholding respectful business practices or helping the Kubota company/name. I accidentally found this venue to express my frustrations. Disgrundled old lady in SEMissouri

      LOL. Sounds like equality. You’ll have to do your own research, learn fairly and negotiate your own deal. PS - not getting help from sales ppl isn’t new, men have been dealing with this for thousands of years. Welcome.
