Fuuuuck man! You’re something else for real. Im sitting in my living room and my head is spinning trying to figure out something meaningful to say to you but I can’t figure out what. I’ve commented on some of your previous videos but damn I’m speechless after this one. They say a picture is worth a thousand words and it seems being spot on and real with a few words does the same thing.
After 25 years of photography. One thing I would tell those starting off is to find a focal length they like and master it. I used to shoot with over a dozen different types of lenses. I never really used any of them as I had too much gear. I did not see in my focal lengths (28, 50 and 85) and instead I had to always figure out the composition. Now? I look in a direction, I see exactly what it will look like with my 3 focal lengths and boom, to shoot or not to shoot. I keep some zoom lenses that collect dust for when I need a zoom but really wish I mastered some focal lengths years ago. My early photos would thank me for it.
Agreed on the focal length part. Perspective is a lot like a language, and finding out how you like to “speak” can aid a lot in figuring out your style. Thanks for watching!
I totally agree with NOT being locked in/labeled as a "certain type of photographer. I love photographing any thing that inspires me at the time. Freedom!
Sometimes it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Not impossible. Just not easy. And so we may also have to learn to part ways with old relationship habits as well. It’s all coming full circle. And there is no fine lines that separate one area from the next. Poor habits find their way into our lives and spread like a disease often changing perceptions of the way we see ourselves and others see us. And so this is both important as a topic on camera and off camera. 🎥 ❤
This hit me hard man, I was literally thinking about niching down before this popped up on my feed (are algorithms that good now lol?) You’ve given the thoughts I’ve had some back up so I feel more confident that what I’m doing is right by following my voice rather that sticking to what everyone else is saying. The gear one is a RABBIT HOLEEEE. I also write about photography and I urge beginner photographers to go small and cheap. I’m glad you make videos talking about stuff like this than gear reviews cuz that stuff just adds to the fire
Thank you for this. Sometimes that box isn’t big enough for everyone. Not everyone should live inside. Expression is that of the heart and soul not the whataboutisms.
I'm definitely not a niche photographer. I like a variety of things. I shoot sports, flowers, street, music etc... And this might be weird but I don't like for my work to all look the same. Good topic!
Doing photography since the 80s and more seriously in the terms of a hobby since 2005 when I married my wife. I couldn’t imagine just doing one kind of photography. My photography is the king of ADHD. I also couldn’t imagine ruining it for me personally by turning it into a business. But I do like making a little extra cash sometimes with it.
Dang it man! We’ve been lied to all these years. We’ve been taught to master one type of photography and be good at it instead of been mediocre in several. I’ve even seen people saying it would be weird for the people who follow you on IG (example) to see different type of photography under the same account and that would turn off people in following your work. Well, back to the drawing board

It means a lot to read that! Thank you for sharing. I’m glad that this video impacted you in a significant, positive way.

Creativity is an adventure! Enjoy that freedom!

Thank you and warm welcome! 🙌🏾
Such a great video, well done Doriyan !
Glad you enjoyed it!
It is important to find camera/lens/niche/idea/whatever that will inspire and excite you. And for this sometimes you need to try dozens.
Agreed 🤝
That Parabolix 45 just sitting in my gear storage proves that you’re speaking to me. Thanks man. Want to buy a Parabolix 45?🤦🏾♂️
I’m good 😂

I’m glad my video could serve as a sounding board to some of these ideas that you’re tossing around. I’m sure everything will work out in the end!
Great channel, glad I found you!
Much love!

Absolutely! I’m glad you got something out of it 🙏🏾
The XH1 is a cult classic! Dee got me on it 2 years ago and I still prefer it to the XT5 other than the battery life.
The X-H1 has a special place in my heart. All these cameras later, and it’s easily in my top 5 all time.

I don’t think that’s weird at all, we’re multi-layered individuals! Thank you for sharing that 🙏🏾
I'm the same. When I edit, I let the photo decide its feel, too. No uniform editing.

For most people, I think that’s the optimal route. Make some money with it when you can, but mostly keep it sacred.
This is such a great video. I love how you structure your stuff on RUclips!
Thank you, I appreciate that 🤝
Great perspective. Glad the algorithm surfaced this in my feed. Subscribed!
I appreciate the kind words 🙏🏾

I agreed what you had to say here so much I watched it twice! 🤙🏼
I appreciate you going the extra mile! Have a great day.
I’m so tired of the niche gospel. So thanks for this one!
Absolutely! We should photograph any and all that compels us. Have a great day.
Your videos are always great
I appreciate that a lot! Thank you for the kind words.
IM WHORIYAN FOR DORIYAN!
MY MAN 🫶🏾
