    Hey, just got this video recommended while making dinner!
    TGB13 is really cool, congrats!
    My first truck was a TGB30.
    And now I’ve just converted a VW T4 from 4x4 to 6x4, but it’s not inspected/approved just yet. Only bought it in January.
    If I’m done before you are, I’ll drive down to Malmö and say hello with it 😎

    Sweet! That bring back some memories. I converted a c303 , T11, into a mobile home/adventure vehicle in the 90s. Took it through north america, canada, alaska some 40000++ km adventure trip. Kept the original volvo B30 engine, so lots of lead additives was used. It had a PTO winch. Replaced the radiator for a bigger one. Mounted a 230liter extra gas tank to get some decent range. 😅 the thing had really shitty gas mileage.😂

    Congratulations on the new purchase and the next chapter for you guys, very exciting and can't wait to watch this build series unfold. Quick Word of advice on those drum brakes chris mate, should really spend the money on having them machined rather than hit with a sander or wire wheel. You do run the risk of brake shudder consequently as the surface needs to be smooth as when making contact with the pad

    • @rvarsigfusson6163
      @rvarsigfusson6163 6 месяцев назад

      You can have the engine in but the gearbox is so integrated that you will ruin the truck...... almost as difficult as putting a new box in Unimog ...... I do think so yes.
      I love this Sweden's military trucks.
      Do anybody know where they are...... I have seen some of these trucks but never as much as there in a same place. I guess it is in Sweden.

    • @ASDASD34RDFS
      @ASDASD34RDFS 6 месяцев назад

      @@rvarsigfusson6163 In the 90s there was a big auction of military vehicles and they were being sold for nothing. They are still pretty common in sweden but no one really drives these. The reason being that it is more or less impossible to get any parts for it. The engine is often an earlier redblock so components for this is easy. But for example you need to replace wheel bearings incredibly often on these. And I think 5 years ago one wheel bearing would go for around 400 dollars? It's the same for most of the other parts and it isn't getting cheaper.
      The negative thing about people buying these old trucks and driving them as camper vans and etc is that the already limited supply of parts is even lower. Perhaps new options will surface as they become more popular, but I doubt it. It's a real shame that people are parading to buy these old trucks only to convert it to camper vans for some instagram influencer lifestyle. They could've done the same with any other truck out there that is easier and cheaper to maintain. But I guess these people wish to pretend their life is all about off-roading and such, even though all they do is drive through some snow once a year.

    • @ASDASD34RDFS
      @ASDASD34RDFS 6 месяцев назад +2

      I see now that still in order to get something such as wheel bearings for this vehicle you need to order incredibly expensive ones. One front axle was quoted at 1000 dollars 8 years ago. Cheaper if you go directly to the manufacturer at "only" around 500-800 dollars. And they do not last long at all. Imagine 6 wheels. Thats around 3000 dollars to replace wheel bearings.

    Just had a thought , look for second hand shop you might be able to some snowmobile or ski suits .Something like this would be a game changer in the battle against the cold . On that older camper please put a carbon monoxide/ gas detector in there and if it has a gas fridge don’t use it . Find a second hand electric fridge to put in there . The gas ones have a bad habit of catching fire .

    Awesome guys - what a set up and I can’t imagine what a beast it will be with a more modern (I expect??) driveline swap. Not sure if it’s an old wives tail but I’ve always been told to keep batteries off/isolated from concrete floors for longevity (a bit of pallet will do).

    welcome to sweden,,the iconic military volvo is a great machine but they use a LOT of gas,like 6l/10km so you should consider a engineswap to a diesel ,Mercedes 300 engine whas popular to put in them back in the days but today a modern turbo diesel is a better choise,

    • @rrochsr
      @rrochsr 6 месяцев назад +3

      No the b30 engine is perfectly fine if you take the time to set everything right and don't drive over 80-90km
      Mine draws 1.5-2 liters per mile (10km)
      But a big problem is the old "pil" tires, when I changed to new quality tires the petrol consumption was halved

    Not "in the Volvo community" but am in the Merc community and I'm suggesting the OM606 as one of the most swapped engines :) Think that would suit too - unlike say a Cummins swap, which would be awesome but overkill. I've a OM364LA in my Merc 814, love a Merc engine for reliability.

    • @rvarsigfusson6163
      @rvarsigfusson6163 6 месяцев назад

    • @KevIsOffGrid
      @KevIsOffGrid 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@rvarsigfusson6163 aye, but its a 50yr old truck, and they have "an old OM thing" back in bowser, and want simple and reliable for round the world travel without ULSD requirements. Could be a Cumins, but I still think OM606 is a good call for this truck, although I'm currently on a OM364LA and my next (very slow) build has a OM904 - and even though a OM904 is epic I still think the OM606 is a better match for this build.

    Ooof... that's a bit of a project. The rules are different in Sweden compared to Finland, apparently. In Finland even 'museum' vehicles need to be inspected I think every two years, and they need to keep being original in order to pass it. I just checked and 50+ year old vehicles in Sweden don't have to be inspected. That's amazing. Granted, it first needs to pass an inspection in original form to get there, but still. I suspect there may be some trouble ahead if it's registered and inspected as a truck and then re-built to be a camper but officially still a truck and something happens or some bureaucrat or policeman decides to start looking too closely at it... probably good to have that discussion with someone, AFTER you have the final inspection done :P

    Hi. I would just like to know, mostly out of curiosity, if the Unimog was yours, did you sell it and did you relocate to Europe? Personally it's a bit of a downgrade. No offense. Apologies if you mentioned that before, I didn't watched all your clips🙂

    • @TheOutFit
      @TheOutFit  6 месяцев назад +1

      The Unimog is our house in Australia, we didn't sell it, we keep it for when we go back. It was too expensive to ship to Europe and probably too big. We wanted a vehicle that can fit in a 20ft shipping container to travel around Europe and ship to America.
