- On the morning of her 45th birthday in 1846, Scottish author Jane Carlyle walked to the post office to pick up her mail, excited to receive birthday messages from her nearest and dearest. Alas, when she arrived, one letter was missing. A letter from her husband.
Nina Sosanya jonied us at our Letters Live show at Hay Festival 2022 to read this gloriously dramatic letter. - Развлечения
They need to develop a best actor award for reading letters. She is luminous
Woah... For a silly letter, I didn't expect to be swiped off my feet by a masterful expression of human vulnerability and passion. It's like some singers can use their voice to turn the most basic song into a tearjerker.
This is acting at its best.
When you feel transported, when you can’t help but join on the rollercoaster of emotions….
I must rewatch immediately, just like I when you pop back in the queue for another ride on the rollercoaster
One of the best yet !!! Great delivery from Nina ! If not from the PO back in 1846, unforgivable.
They were affectionate towards one another but frequently quarrelled. It shows why Samuel Butler once said “it was very good of god to allow Carlyle and Mrs Carlyle to marry one another and so make two people miserable instead of four.” And unfortunately with a lot of marriages today not a lot has changed…..😂
Blimey Nina is a bit bloody good isn't she! I mean I loved her in good omens and his dark materials but to pull out a performance like that from a letter is quite something!
The body language and facial expressions really brought the author to life, fantastic!
Sally Wainwright made a godawful mistake by killing of 'Kate' in Last Tango In Halifax. Nina and Sarah Lancashire had blooming great screen chemistry.
How does she DO that? Amazing performance.
Oh my goodness she is indeed a treasure,we are all so fortunate to share this time .
Totally underrated actress, love her to bits. One of my favourite series she was in has to be 2012, and W1A.
Brilliantly read!!!
I was riveted.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Fantastic Scottish accent!
Read so wonderfully. All the emotions
Great delivery. Such a good actress
So brilliantly read! If read by someone less talented it wouldn’t have been half as good. Brava!
how lovely a beautiful letter read outstandingly!
"Why cannot I believe it, once and for all, that with all my faults and follies, I am dearer to you than any earthly creature."
such a hilarious and sweet letter masterfully delivered by Nina
Love this woman
Absolutely perfect reading
Awww, the heartwarming twist was not expected.
Brilliantly read!
Brilliant acting. Stunning.
Brilliantly read. I can relate 🙂.
Bravo!
I love her so so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️
How wonderful!
All of these are brilliant, but this is on another level. To be able to convey, and make me feel, such a range of emotions in such a short time is incredible.
This was beautifully read, and made me laugh 😂 👍 😎
Nineteenth century for "Oops -- the message was sent but not received."
My lord she is magnificent
This lady was a diva and to quote Beyoncé “A diva is the definition of a hustler”
Masterful. Best read letter ✉️💌✉️💌 I've heard BRILLIANT 🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I was in that woman's head whirlling 🌀🌀🌀🌪️ just imagine the poor chap ACTUALLY FORGOT ☠️😂😂😂
Pretty decent Scots accent!
Imagine what Jane Carlyle would have been like with social media.
🤯
❤
...And then they say ppl did not used to get marry for Love then...
😂
She sadly sounds insecure. He should have found a way to stop that. Built up her confidence. Early on, it is understandable, but after years of marriage, he should have had her more calm and secure.
Though it would be nice to know he was thinking of her on that day...
1846 though. The idea of women being independent and able to use their brains was shocking back then. She sounds completely wet and dappy but if you try and control everything for someone that's what you get 🤷
😂😂😂😂
So grateful for ‘Letters Live’! Life’s that much more interesting because of this glorious idea! 🥹💗
