I met Steve Lukather at a VIP meet and greet, when he was doing a solo tour about 10 years ago, or so. He was friendly, funny, actually took the time to talk to me, had a long chat - still have a great picture with him. Genuinely nice man, and a real antidote to 'never meet your heroes'. Have kept up with everything he does ever since.
I read Luke's book... I've been a fan of his for over 4 decades.. since he was on Boz Scaggs' records. He's such a monster player and musician and he is funny as hell . One of my true heroes .
I tend to read all manner of crappy sci-fi and adventure stuff I get from Google play/Amazon - all free. Luke's book, I bought. There's like a list of artists whose songs he's played on at the end and I swear it adds a thousand extra pages to the book. What a body of work the guy has built up.
I don't think there's ever been a conversation that began with Steve Lukather that segued into mentioning an episode of the Andy Griffith show. I love your tangents, Leland.
Love ya Lee!! You’re the best- thanks for playing those great Luke tracks & thanks for reminding everyone to stay safe, get vaxxed, etc. We have an awesome opportunity in the US that other countries wish for, as far as access to vaccines. We’re the lucky ones! ❤️
Great post, Lee! I once had the honor of taping a pre-show interview with Luke in 1999, when Toto played in Reno ( both Mike and Simon were still in the band ). He had me ROLLING with laughter at some of his session stories, including one story of Jay Graydon getting his effects board getting peed on by the late/great Jeff Porcaro. Luke is an outstanding musician. One of the very things I adore about him is his never ending hunger in being a better musician. He and Edward Van Halen ( along with Joe Satriani ) are my top three favorite guitarists. Luke's songwriting sense is like a cinematic journey for the ears ( and heart ). And that " Transition " album of his is sensational. Be well, Lee!
Cool music,, Lee. I just watched John Beaudin's interview with Like about the coming tour with a new lineup. Luke is like you, so diverse and massive experience. Really enjoy your videos and your never-ending kindness and humor. Thanks for saving us all during the pandemic. Never stop.
Thanks so much for sharing Leland! I am a big fan of Steve and it is wonderful to hear your stories about working with him. I want you to know that you have really help me get thru this past year with your videos and reminiscences. Best wishes to you always! Cheers! ;-)
One of Luke's (I'm 67) greatest fans, I am enjoying listening to Leland Sklar talk about and react to the music from this great Steve Lukather album (which I didn't even hear until the beginning of this year). What a treat! Sending even more respect to you Mr. Sklar!
Would really like to hear more of the "Falling In Between" stuff, Lee. Never a big Toto fan, but the Paris DVD is very, very good. Really special with you, Phillips and Phillinganes 👍👍
Happy Monday ! 👩🌻 Hello Leland and all , my 13 year old dog and I made it through the night. Ugh on M 80's Beautiful Colorado evening 😍 Enjoying your tunes. 🎶😊💜
Lee over the years i have gotten to know hundreds of people, partied with them and got to experience their set ups and music collections...but i have never been to someone's house where their collection was so many songs they recorded. Thx for being the tops!
When I was a teenager going to a lot of concerts way back when, I always knew the concert was going to be incredible when the curtain came up Leland was there.
COOOOOOOOL😎. Thank you Lee❣️. We had thunder here, luckily no fireworks. Love the tv shows with " a moral to the story". Stay safe everyone 🤗. Prayers for the folks in Florida. Have a fabulous rest of your day.
Enjoy the stories. You and Luke are two greats that have some wonderful stories to tell. I’m glad I met both of you several times over the years. Thanks for sharing.
Love when you feature Luke…Transitions album was a time of great upheaval for him from what I read in his book “ The Gospel According to Luke.” What a rich history he’s been through and he’s such a humble and talented guy. Looking forward to your future projects with him! 💕
Good morning, Lee. It's been awhile since I tuned into your channel, but when I saw this on my recommended videos, with "the master" Steve Lukather linked to it, I knew I had to watch. I now realize what I've been missing for a few months...your insight, humor and kindness.
Such talent in that studio when this was recorded - incredible. Steve's guitar work is so signature - pure gold and so fluidic. (Keep us posted on that bird's nest - sounds beautiful.). Love that bass groove on Creep Motel - the bass line reminds me a little of a blues tune from the 90s called "Black Velvet". Awesome.
I hope, my judgement day is still far away as I‘m only 65. Well, I have CDs of Steve, saw him playing with Toto, of course, but also in one of his solo concerts in Austria. Great cool guitar player. My concert highlight was a Toto concert in Innsbruck/Austria with ………….. with Leland Sklar on bass. 👍🏻👏🏻💪🏻
Hi Lee and channel family! I hope y'all had a great safe holiday weekend. I must admit I've had my fill of fireworks...had them going off at all four corners of my neighborhood all hours of the night ( morning). I only heard of one house fire and garage burned down from someone putting used fireworks in the garage without making sure they were not still smoldering....SMH... Well anyway, Lee I'm really enjoying the music and your insight on not just the music but the music business...two wildly different animals. Have a Great day all!
Is that your Dingwall? Oh man, such a SEXY growl on that beast! Creep Motel has one of my fave grooves….hypnotic bass line and spectacular playing by Steve. That could have gone on for 20 minutes and I would have been happy! 🤘
Minoxidol? What a Clunker to interrupt this Luke guy. Chops, composition skill, unique voice. Have never heard his songs solo before. Thank you Leland and keep an eye on the rip on top of your head. Done it myself several times throughout life and always look around to see if anybody saw it happen. Greetings Maureen, Knuckleheads, and Immediate Family. Got a new Jackson Browne "Running On Empty" edition. Man, you guys looked like you were having a BLAST!!! Kootch, your hair was my length at the time. Those drums Russ! From a Future world. Double neck bass Leland. Nice. Doug
Luke is so so underrated as you are too . I have so much respect for you guys its absolutely crazy . Someone asked me if I could get any band to play at my birthday, I said I would let Luke put a crew together and blow everyone's mind.
Always good to revisit Mr Luke with you and the other Sklarites. Here in the UK, the tribe is gathering. Anyone in London & SE want to meet up with fellow fans just ping a reply here or in future posts. There IS beer involved. Take good care everyone. Can we see the light at the end of what has been a bloody long tunnel???
When the notification for this popped up and said Steve Lukather, I was like “please be Creep Motel”… and you did 😀. I fucking love that groove, have since the day that album came out.
Hi every one - and Lee!! Been to busy to chill with you all. What a great Andy and Opie story!! Of course the music is great as always. Ooh boy, we have similar hairlines and that scab looks like something I've done way too many times.I know how that hurts! Yeah man, great guitar solo on the outro to "Creep Motel." Thank you so much. I'm glad you have some studio stuff happening and other things in the works,
The Creep Motel track sounds almost exactly like the 21st Century Blues track from the Toto 14 album. Either way, I love anything and everything you play and whatever Toto and Steve Luthaker play!
Luke has always spoken highly of you Mr. Sklar. I'm sure he was thrilled that you joined him on his project. You guys are the best out there or has ever been! Keep rockin, brother!
You sounded great with Bissonette on that Creep Motel. What more can be said about Luke... he's just one of the best ever, the guy flows so free and smooth, like a cool stream flowing and sweet blasts of tasty fire - so great.
Around 6 years ago i started listening to lots of Toto and dug deeper and checked the solo projects by Luke. To this day these are one of my favourite songs to listen and sing to. Truly a unique guitar player. Judgment day, creep motel, right the wrong, once again, do I stand alone probably remain my top 5 from his albums.
it would be nice if folks just left fireworks to the pros. it is truly amazing all the people you have played with, quite enjoyable. thanks for making being in lock down easier.
I saw ToTo numerous times but never with you in it!! The only time I saw you was back in 1993 when you toured with Véronique Sanson. Saw the show in Voiron, France. I was 15 at the time (never been a big Sanson fan but I got a free ticket so I figured "What the hell?") and I remember vividly going apeshit when you stepped on stage. I was like "Holy f**k that's Lee Sklar! That's Lee Sklar!" I did not take my eyes off you for the entire gig. I remember Basil Fung was in the band as well, if memory serves me right. Anyway, just wanted to send you some love. Cheers from France!
Hey, Lee and everyone! I just took a quick count. All ten fingers are present and reporting for duty. Of course, I just stayed inside last night and listened to the battle from a safe distance.
Lee, I was fairly obsessed with the "40 acre backlot" at Desilu Studios, where the Andy Griffith Show and many more were filmed. There is a whole historical society program about that area. What is so interesting is how the studios (Desi Arnaz/Lucille Ball were the owners at the time) allowed the property to fall into disrepair and never saw the worth of letting tourists tour that area of streets and buildings. So many shows were filmed there. I do like that show and it fascinates me to think about the world created for that show and many others.
Steve is one of my all time guitar heroes. His guitar playing has influenced me way back. I have all of his solo albums. I even bought a Family Reserve Earnie Ball Music Man SL Signature and still play it to this day. I love all the solo albums but Ever Changing Times is still my fav.
Damn!- Loved “Creep Motel!” That groove! And you mentioned a possible end of year thing with you, maybe Luke and other great guys- that would be so awesome! If it happens clue the Club early, please!!
Steve Lukather is a music fan, who happened to be amazingly talented enough to actually end up playing and making music with his heroes. The man is living the dream, and as a bassist I would love the opportunity to share a stage with Luke, unbelievable guitarist!
As always , a heap of great tunes , thanks Mr Sklar , I have to pinch myself when I'm remembering how much music you (AND YOURE FREINDS) have treated us to. I do have to wonder tho' why you don't use an add blocker,
Hi Leland, just in case you don't know, I wanted to share the sad news that Rick Laird passed away. Many of course know Rick from his rock solid work as the heartbeat of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, but they may not know he was also a major figure in the UK jazz scene of the 60s as an upright virtuoso. As part of this, he was for a time the house bassist for the famous Ronnie Scott's jazz club.
I love the range of music you bring us Lee, from The Lark Ascending to Creep Motel and your love of all music in between. As for the people who refuse to get vaccines, all I will say is Darwin Awards ! It is so sad that people refuse to take the benefits pioneered by Edward Jenner in the late 18th century.
@Ian Steele. Ian as the old quote goes "there are none so blind as those who wont see" and there are one hell of a lot of them out there. Cheers buddy.😎
Jesús help me ¡ Luke is my Hero my Role model for guitar and vocals but he allways pushes himself to musical landscapes that are way out of this world Eddie in Heaven must be proud of his dear friend ¡🙏🙏🤟🤟🎸🎸❤
Creep Motel has a groove that reminds me of a song off of Guitar Shop by Jeff Beck. The title escapes me at the moment…but it’ll come to me eventually.
Ever Changing Times and Transition are the two albums of Luke where you can tell he has really grown in his style of playing. Not saying his older solo projects weren't good. They were. But you can tell he has matured both in his style of playing, emotionally and mentally. I really love Transition

It really is incredible to think of how young the guys in Toto were when then began - and some of them already had established themselves before Toto!
Great post, Lee!

Evening Leland and everybody.
We had torrential rain this morning.
Hans Peter Lillesøe Must admit Hans, the rain cleared the air.
It has felt very muggy in the past couple of days.
Cool music,, Lee. I just watched John Beaudin's interview with Like about the coming tour with a new lineup. Luke is like you, so diverse and massive experience. Really enjoy your videos and your never-ending kindness and humor. Thanks for saving us all during the pandemic. Never stop.

one of my favorite bassist of all time....God Bless ya Leland...
Right The Wrong is a timeless jam and speaks to where we are as a society with the lack of physical communication. Great album
When he soars he really soars ! Thank You as always !
Thanks for the fireworks, great tunes as usual. 🇨🇦👍❤

Alana Miles I think. Same guy did that who I did Amanda Marshall with. David Tyson.

Lee, Waddy, Kooch, Steve, Russ....I enjoy you ALL. 🖤💜🖤💜🖤💜🖤
Creep Motel is a hell of a tune!
“Luuuuk I am not your father…” I am however a fan of the blockbuster songs you seem to pull out of thin air! This guy is ridiculously talented.
Minoxidol? What a Clunker to interrupt this Luke guy. Chops, composition skill, unique voice. Have never heard his songs solo before. Thank you Leland and keep an eye on the rip on top of your head. This track, "Creep Motel" is new to me. Great stuff, very creative. Love Lee's bassline in the chorus .
Amazing song Leland , the harmony and melody is amazing, thank you 😊
Transitions is one of my favorite albums of all time.
Thank you for the 🎆. Here in Salt Lake, we couldn't have big displays because of fire danger.
Thank You! Once again another great show, and I will listen to the Album

Good Evening Leland and All 👋
Love the great Lukather.
The Creep Motel track sounds almost exactly like the 21st Century Blues track from the Toto 14 album. Either way, I love anything and everything you play and whatever Toto and Steve Luthaker play!
Nice start to the week... I love anything Luke... Just got tickets to see you and the IF in Boca, in Florida, in February....
Luke has always spoken highly of you Mr. Sklar. I'm sure he was thrilled that you joined him on his project. You guys are the best out there or has ever been! Keep rockin, brother!
Fun way to start the week. Creep Motel is catchy…almost an ear worm.
Great stuff Lee! really enjoyed that. Back out gigging here in the UK...festival stages in two weeks...can't wait! :) Take care, speak soon!

Hello Leland, hello all !
Hi!
Hello Christian 🙏
Hello 😀
You sounded great with Bissonette on that Creep Motel. What more can be said about Luke... he's just one of the best ever, the guy flows so free and smooth, like a cool stream flowing and sweet blasts of tasty fire - so great.
Thanx for sharing Lee, you are both great cats and human beings! Hoping to afford your book one day. Keep it up, cheers!
I love you two lee and steve, rock on. On Steve's album, transition, right the wrong is One of my fav songs ever.

OMG incredible guitar playing
Hi Leland! It’s winter here in Chile. Love your channel!
Great to see you closing your eyes and grooving. :)
Steve is my MAN. He is funny when he cusses. 🖤💜🖤💜🖤💜🖤
Was listening to this tune this morning on the commute. Awesome stuff Lee \o/
It’s hard to imagine either of those songs without their strong, foundational rhythm sections.
Stay safe and stay well!
Luke is a great gift to music. Thanks for posting this.
New to your channel but a fan of yours for years great content

Hi Leland and to all from Copenhagen
Hey, Lee and everyone! I just took a quick count. All ten fingers are present and reporting for duty. Of course, I just stayed inside last night and listened to the battle from a safe distance.
Our dear Mike Porcaro is looking down from Heaven to continue halo You, dear Leland!

STEVE LOOK AT HER /) his real name :))
Forensic Adventure. Would be a great album title 😁
Have admired Steve Lukather's playing for a very long time. Seems like a "fun" dude to hang with as well.
The best!
STEVE LOOK AT HER /) his real name :))
transitions is awesome great album as was the previous one, but transition just has an edge to it that is just hypnotic
Luke's The Man, thank you Leelnd
As always , a heap of great tunes , thanks Mr Sklar , I have to pinch myself when I'm remembering how much music you (AND YOURE FREINDS) have treated us to. I do have to wonder tho' why you don't use an add blocker,
Slammed my finger in a door, thought I had dem figured out !!
The ellipsis in the title worried me, I thought Luke had passed!
I saw him interviewed on Sea of Tranquility the other week, he was in fine form, very lively 😂
I thought the same! I got kinda scared.
Sad news. Major chops required to play with Mahavishnu.

@@sceiron1 Cheers Mike. Catch you in a few hours.
Steve has been my consistent favourite guitarist since 83. There are faster and one trick pony players, but he’s the best.
Jesús help me ¡ Luke is my Hero my Role model for guitar and vocals but he allways pushes himself to musical landscapes that are way out of this world Eddie in Heaven must be proud of his dear friend ¡🙏🙏🤟🤟🎸🎸❤

It’s “Big Block”!
Maybe the commercial will be for “Mynoxidil”! ;-)
Love this!🔥
Amazing music
Luke is amazing.
Can't say enough about Luke........MASTER!!!!!!!! Everyone involved consumate Pros!!!!!
Thanks for LUKE.......Tour De Force!!!!
John Entwhistle said to smash your head against the Wall, not the metal cabinet!
his interview on " sea of tranquility " is wonderful.
No substitutions... his intro " must tune instrument" what an album
Ever Changing Times and Transition are the two albums of Luke where you can tell he has really grown in his style of playing. Not saying his older solo projects weren't good. They were. But you can tell he has matured both in his style of playing, emotionally and mentally. I really love Transition
