This amv shows dabi and his past perfectly. Though horikoshi could have made him a more interesting character with more layers if he only hated endeavor and still cared about his family.
Thank you! Personally, I think him still caring for his family would’ve made him cliche and boring. Dabi hating his entire family makes sense for me, especially since he’s had to watch them slowly repair their relationship with Endeavor. It’s like an extra stab in the gut.
@@Kaiser_MHA Fair enough, though I was thinking of something a bit less cliche. I was thinking that in this au, touya would catch wind of endeavor's plan and wasn't exactly surprised when he was replaced by his siblings. Touya was kinda like your perfect older brother and was honestly more of a father to his siblings than endeavor was. After shoto came into the picture, touya dedicated his childhood to protecting him. Endeavor didn't completely give up on touya, who was fine with it because it meant he could keep an eye on endeavor's training and try to interven if endeavor took it to far (though this usually ended in failure). Touya tanked most of his injuries and brushed of any concern from his siblings, he needed to stay strong for them. Though touya spent most of his time with shoto, he was still allowed to be with natsuo and fuyumi due to him not being the masterpiece. Endeavor took advantage of this and started training shoto alone without interruptions; this would be shown perfectly in the flashback were shoto's watching the others playing football before being dragged away by endeavor, touya's the only one who noticed this but you see his facial expression. The same flashback would be shown again later in the series but from touya's point of view and we can see that's his wearing a expression of both anger (towards endeavor) and concern (for shoto). One time lashing out at endeavor and burning him, at first endeavor would be mad but then impressed and therefore continue to push touya's limits, both mentally and physically. Overtime touya's personality would change, becoming colder and more violent. In his teen years his hair would change colour, this could represent his stress, anger and frustration against endeavor. The red hair (representing his positivity, warmth and happiness) being replaced by his white hair (representing his negativity, coldness, anger and a deep hatred towards endeavor). Touya usually considered leaving and he always believed he was the one to "save the family". When endeavor broke rei's mentality which lead to shoto's burn, that would have been the final straw for touya and he proceeded to put his plan into action. Over the next few months he trained his quirk great; which made him very powerful but caused a lot of burns, he also trained his survival skills; both in the wilderness and on the streets. Endeavor didn't care, he just thought touya was doing independent training. On that fateful night, touya packed his things and before leaving, he promised shoto a better life. Touya decided to fake his death so he went to sekoto peak and burned the place to the ground but he put alot of his cooped up rage into his firepower, which engulfed the entire place. Touya barely got out with his life. He did a decent job living on the streets and then he heard of stain and was inspired by him, but stain's ideology caused his hatred for endeavor to spread to the majority of heroes. Touya's "death" absolutely destroyed the todoroki's, especially shoto. Endeavor's abuse have an effect on shoto in some ways and he started seeing touya as a figment of his imagination. People watching the anime or reading the munga would just think touya's a friend of shoto due to them roughly being the same age (this memory of touya), but there'd be small clues pointing towards this touya not being real such as: no one noticing touya's presence, touya suddenly gone with no shots of him leaving and people asking shoto who his talking to. But the nail on the coffin would be finding out touya is dead. Imaginary touya would be a constantly reoccurring character and honestly make viewers question shoto's mental state. Once shoto has friends and developing a better relationship with endeavor, imaginary touya would tell shoto that he doesn't need him anymore before leaving. This would make finding out real touya is alive much harder hitting for shoto. In the training camp attack, twice would be about to lay a blow on shoto with his measuring tape - blade - thing but dabi's flames would knock him back. Most viewers would brush this off as a misdirected attack from dabi, but is later revealed to be dabi protecting shoto. This doesn't mean touya is a good person, his basically on a deranged crusade to kill endeavor and "save the family". When dabi reveals himself to be touya, he'd try not to hurt shoto but just blast him out of the way so he could get to endeavor. He'd be fairly annoyed at shoto for trying to defend endeavor, just because the other todoroki's have forgiven him doesn't mean touya has. I'm honestly not sure how a scenario like this would end but what I'm trying to say is something like this would give dabi more depth as a character.
@ my problem is that I’m tired of people denying that endeavor is a wife beater and his irredeemable and he clearly s3xually a55aulted Rei several times, and Rei is not abusive, she did her best with Shoto and you don’t know what abuse i5, and Endeavor will always be the worst
@@Mysterious-Night Okay…? I don’t know where you think you know me from but: 1) I am regularly on Twitter debating Endeavor stans who defend his actions. In those debates, I constantly explain how he was an abusive husband & father & how there’s enough evidence that he sexually abused Rei. 2) Rei is Endeavor’s victim first & foremost. She did also abuse her child by every definition. It’s just the context that is key. 3) “You don’t know what abuse is” - I am a victim of child abuse throughout the foster care system & regularly advocate about it. 4) I am a fan of Endeavor’s character, not him as a person. He is an abuser. Something I’ve stated over & over. Not sure where your issue with me comes from.
There are many problems with the final arc, from resurrections, to excessive use of the script, and I saw your comment, it is and it feels like the character is the problem, since his revelation, he has no more ambitions, they should have given more, it's just revenge and that's it. He has no secondary objectives, he is not intact, from the first fight, he was destroyed with the fact that he kept fighting, many indications that he died, for the last one they give us the clue, that he is still alive.
I don’t agree with this at all. Dabi gives a whole speech to Shoto which shows that he has a lot of deeper understanding and care for the wider issue. He’s after Endeavor primarily but he has issue with the entirety of hero society. I actually believe that Dabi in the final arc speaks MORE on society as a whole and the wider issue than he ever did before. He even changes from just discussing himself and his own personal desires to talking about the League and what they’re all after as well. His speech to Shoto was one of my favourites from him and perfectly shows that whilst his personal focus is on Endeavor, that’s definitely NOT all he’s about. Dabi and the Todoroki subplot has pretty much been carrying this final arc.
Amazing vid but damn does it hurt, it didn't have to be this way, could have lived a normal life and maybe become a hero but instead he became pretty much alone and blinded by revenge his whole life.
Twice is actually already in-progress but I’ve been so busy lately it’s had to wait a while. Toga will be done once the anime adapts the rest of her arc!
Do not do it. He's not telling the whole truth. He doesn't care about his family, and society nor even those of the league of villains. The only reason he does what he does is out of jealousy towards Shoto and out of revenge towards his father for choosing the latter over him. Endeavor has his faults, but Dabi did not have a tragic past like Shigaraki's, and above all he decided in total absolute freedom to become a homicidal psychopath, without being influenced or conditioned. It's not Endeavor's fault that Dabi turns every idea of him into a crazy, destructive obsession.
@lpallad1 Whilst Dabi is currently an adult who is definitely responsible for his own choices, he was literally neglected & abused throughout his childhood so over half of this just isn’t accurate.
@@lpallad1 Physical abuse is not the only form of abuse & it’s actually the form of abuse that causes the least long-term effects. Touya was quite clearly abused.
We have to admit, what this last arc of the manga, ruined the character, ends his revelation, and gave him no purpose or achieve more. As they let him live, it will be the worst mistake.
Although I have LOTS of issues with the last arc in general, I don’t feel Dabi’s character was one of them. I’d say his character is intact & was done well, though I’ve always said that I don’t want him to survive for the sake of his character arc but we’ll see what happens.
@@Kaiser_MHA they damaged dabi, the fight with shotou ends, he goes back for the script and now he takes out that he awakens his ice quirk and that will save him, uf friend, how horrible
@@wonder_cool3540 Dabi surviving the battle with Shoto was perfect. The whole trope of ‘perfect and ideal abuse victims stops/saves the inconvenient victim’ is so tacky. The meet up between the entire family was good. I was a little worried Dabi was just going to randomly have a change of heart but he didn’t. He still hates them, even after he’s beaten, he refuses to accept them and stays true to his character. The ice thing was a bit out of left field but ties into the tragedy that is core to his character. As for him surviving, I’m reserving judgement for when we actually see how it ends. I’ve always said I believe both Dabi and Endeavor should die but I’m not going to complain until I actually see how it ends.
@@xxxnarurto5747 The direction the writing has taken in act 3 has honestly made me worried about a lot of things. Dabi’s arc was one of them. I always hoped he wouldn’t but part of me was expecting the cliche change of heart deal.
I put it to a vote whether people wanted it in English dub, Japanese or both and English dub won by quite a lot. When I feel some motivation hit I might revisit it and make the Japanese version though 😅 Thing is, the audio editing and mixing was actually the trickiest part of this video and had to be redone multiple times so I’m not eager to rush back and done that all again anytime soon so it will have to be a burst of motivation 😭
I have cptsd, Dabi and I had a similar childhood, I somehow survived, I somehow am learning to thrive. That's all I want for him. But it will be the JD trope from Heather's, that broken kids are too damaged to be saved 😢
the first arc of war, dabi was fine, but after, how they gutted the villain, and the worst thing they ship with anything. but the most alarming thing is "dabi that he survives in the end, or that he is cured with eri, or with his quirk or whatever they invent" that friends, I will hate the character and the anime,
If Eri is used as a plot device to save Dabi, I’ll be disgusted. Especially as the series didn’t even have her interact with Shoto at all or form a bond with him, which was already a huge missed opportunity with both being abuse victims. Luckily, that’s just random fan nonsense for now.
@@Kaiser_MHAHopefully, or even take out that his quirk or technology will leave him alive, what is this magic? Disney? And if that happens it's fair to be very upset and upset

Dabi surviving the battle with Shoto was perfect.
@@Kaiser_MHA may I asked why did you assume Dabi might change his mind? If he wasn’t going to kill them and randomly change his mind?

The direction the writing has taken in act 3 has honestly made me worried about a lot of things. Dabi’s arc was one of them. I always hoped he wouldn’t but part of me was expecting the cliche change of heart deal.
This needs a Japanese dub version…
I put it to a vote whether people wanted it in English dub, Japanese or both and English dub won by quite a lot. When I feel some motivation hit I might revisit it and make the Japanese version though 😅
Thing is, the audio editing and mixing was actually the trickiest part of this video and had to be redone multiple times so I’m not eager to rush back and done that all again anytime soon so it will have to be a burst of motivation 😭
@@Kaiser_MHAI hope you get around to it, there’s something about the Japanese dub that makes emotions especially mania more convincing/impactful…
I have cptsd, Dabi and I had a similar childhood, I somehow survived, I somehow am learning to thrive.
That's all I want for him. But it will be the JD trope from Heather's, that broken kids are too damaged to be saved 😢
Let’s be straight honest some people may have similar childhood but it’s dependent on how they react 😁
the first arc of war, dabi was fine, but after, how they gutted the villain, and the worst thing they ship with anything.
but the most alarming thing is "dabi that he survives in the end, or that he is cured with eri, or with his quirk or whatever they invent" that friends, I will hate the character and the anime,
If Eri is used as a plot device to save Dabi, I’ll be disgusted.
@@lindocat2030 no offense MHA isn’t even Disney 😑
@@xxxnarurto5747It's Disney, why do you think? Dabi is still alive, even as a skull
Isnt al might no 1 hero😢
