@@haydenoswin That is so totally cool 😎...lol This is the second time I have read about a fruit animals eat certain time of the year and get drunk. Hahaha There is a fruit that animals eat in Africa and Elephants and Baboons and more get drunk stumbling about! 😄 Here's a brief summary from a site on the tree: "The story goes that wild animals would get drunk by eating fruit that had dropped from the tree and was fermenting on the ground. Marula trees are incredibly popular for elephants - they eat the bark and devour the fruit, then spread marula seeds through their dung. So the story became associated with the great pachyderms."
Its wonderful to watch you experience what we New Zealanders take for granted, I am from Auckland not far from kare kare. I'm glad you enjoyed Auckland.
Your one brave gal . You bring us some awesome videos and make it look so easy. The video was beautiful with scenery that makes me want to be there. Thank you Carolyn. It take my mind off of day to day life and give me a moment to wander
Can always count on you to BRING IT! Wonderful video, the real ness and raw adventure fantastic series. I have followed all your changes, the talent you have to re invent your self and zest for life is infectious. Thanks for sharing with us Carolyn, always god bless and safe journeys.
I've noticed that when you are out and hiking you have the most wonderful smile. You are truly enjoying your trip and it shows. And thanks for letting us come along. New Zealand is beautiful.
Wow, I just love seeing these places through your eyes. Wood pigeon (kereru) most respected bird, their wings go whoosh and they fly low and fast through the trees. Those cheeky Tui's now have a new name thank you Carolyn, the mischievous flying r2d2's. Love and hugs, stay brave.
@@CarolynsRVLife Just have to comment here too about your conversation with the birds on Great Barrier. (Next video post)... So lovely to watch and hear, thank you.... Keep being the lovely you, and I hope your migraines stay away. Safe travels.
Carolyn, from what I could tell the tree you mentioned is the puriri. The pohutukawa doesn't have berries and the kereru (NZ wood pigeon) is the bird you didn't know the name of. It'll be feasting on the berries. As a Kiwi it's interesting to get your perspective on NZ. Enjoy your travels.
Great video, thanks, Carolyn! "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord, my soul to keep.." when I was camping and got scared at night, just said that little ditty from my childhood and decided that, if it was my time to go, then it was ok. Otherwise, I'd be fine overnight.
Sorry I don't know the name of the trees nor the birds. But what I DO know is that you make awesome videos. And I get to see places I'll never get to in person. Thank you carolyn. You are terrific!
I think the bird buzzing you frightened you more than the hut! Interesting country! I am enjoying your travel adventures. Norfolk Pines are very nice. Please take care hitchhiking. Jeanne
Definitely awesome! I probably would have tried the shelter also. I would have been looking for a shower - even an outdoor one would have felt good! It's amazing how few hikers are out there! And so beautiful! Thank you also for showing your cool 'coffee' method and cookware.
I see you were all by yourself...until you weren't. Bummer. I guess I'll wait til next week to see that. Thanks for posting yet another awesome video. Hugs to you Carolyn.
Your amazing. I have so many needs that must be met or I can’t sleep. 💗✌🏽 I’m so glad you decided to take this trip. Your smiling and seem to be at peace.
You are amazing girl! Love following your adventures. Glad I got off the TV and started using the computer. Lots more fun being able to leave comments! Stay safe out there you are such a brave one! Peace and Love!
You are amazing.!!. You just decided not to be afraid and went to sleep... me.. I would have been up all night thinking I was going to die at any second.. and how .... I would have thought they would have someone there if they knew there was a single women guest.. It is so beautiful there.. thank you for sharing your trip.
Uugh! I can't get enough of your hiking videos! 🤤🤔😆 Everytime I sit down for your videos, I have to make sure my husband is there. I think he would be a little upset if I left him out... Lol 😊 He's pretty picky on most of what he watches but he loves listening or (watching, he's blind). He can be partially napping and he will open his eyes a few times listening. I have to watch and the best part which might be unusual is your videoing makes me feel like I am not missing places or things to do. Getting to see makes me happy and feel more fulfilled. I don't feel like I am missing stuff. The PCT and NZ are places I wanted to know more about or visit. I feel so much better inside though you did the hard part. I also felt like eating more fruit after watching the last part 😄🤤. Hahaha Thank you sooo much for sharing!! 💝💯😊👍
Watching your New Zealand videos has been lovely. The title of this one concerns me though. I am, after all, living through you on this adventure. Carolyn, YOU ARE NEVER ALONE. We are keeping a watchful eye out for you and, believe me, if you even miss one day of posting, we would be calling people, worried about your safety. Anyone who dares harm a hair on your adorable head would soon, very soon, be in a lot of trouble! Just be careful, especially when walking in sketchy places. We love you!
BEAUTIFUL BIRDS!! I just LOVE listening to them talk/sing it's so relaxing!!! I'd be scared being by myself even in the deep woods LOL.. Your a brave lady Carolyn!!! Was that sweat when you woke up, or did you take a shower?!! Be Safe my friend!!! LOVES/HUGS....
Having traveled lived in my van before. I just want to say that fear is not a bad emotions, it's like a warning at times and can save your life . Your not braver if fearless. If you can work with it, and be safe, alert and self talk to your situation. If your putting yourself in harm's way fear may try to alert you
wow it is beautiful 'there and the tent camp was very nice relaxing and just felt more like home to me it just felt good there' i am so glad you stayed there to rest and thank you for the great views and pictures'' lovely ' place' enjoy you trip hugs
The pine trees are used for landscaping yards in Miami Fl. In Central Florida, baby Norwalk Island pines are sold planted in pots to use as table-top Christmas trees.
I feel ya! We do what we can to survive. You did good...but it's all worth it in the end to enjoy the scenery and culture..I think..enjoy my dear..your awesome... Cheers!!
When you put your backpack 🎒 down, with a thud, it is obviously 🙄 heavy. That is some difficult hiking 🥾. Again I have to say I admire the beauty, it’s so bright & vivid colors.
A couple of things made me smile. The r2d2 bird was awesome, thanks for sharing that and the fact that you were hoofing 50 pounds on your back but one of the items was not fuel. Oh well, as you say, planning and details are not your things. But you did it, despite the obstacles and that is what makes you awesome.
Thanks for sharing your lovely journey with us all. I am so worried about you doing all this all alone, I wish you had a companion to be with you to share the experience together and what if you got hurt or something bad happened you would have someone by your side . I am a worry wart but looks like you have been safe just be so careful maybe u will find someone that likes doing all those things along side u as a friend or what ever.... Peace Sister !!
Huts that get hot and stuffy during the day will make cracking sounds in the hut at night cooling due to contraction, and when you’re on you own alone can be quite scary sounding. And you’d been fine I would have thought to put your tent up, would’ve been much cooler outdoors.
Maximalist, seriously though.. with all the messages we get to be afraid of everything and everyone, if we allow ourselves to spiral down that path, it'll just paralyze us (me). I'd rather put my mind to happier scenarios. LOL. Glad to know I'm not the only one!! Hope you're well, C
watching this with my friend whose country you are on here. He's giving quite a running commentary! He called the bird a 'two-ee' or 'priest bird'. Used to be gold mining there apparently. He enjoyed seeing the country again ;-)
The tree the tuis and wood pigeons (kereru) were in, is a puriri tree (they feed on the red berries).
Thanks for the correction and clarification!!! Googling this stuff isn't always the most effective ;-)
The tuis eat the red puriri berries and they ferment in their stomachs and the tuis get drunk... hick!

the large bird is the native wood pigeon "Kereru" probably feeding on berries off the puriri tree
You are always so brave. I know it must be hard sometimes for you. But you never let that stop you. Have fun. Stay safe.

Sue Young Hikers pray to some universe. God is not in their vocabulary, sadly.

#201 Good morning, Carolyn. I'm enjoying a cup of coffee while watching your video. At my age I cannot hike like you, but I enjoy what you see, Yup!

Beautiful country. I spent 3 weeks hiking around the North and South Islands in 1990.
That hut or house looks very clean. Wonder who maintains it.
they have rangers that do that
The pine trees are used for landscaping yards in Miami Fl. In Central Florida, baby Norwalk Island pines are sold planted in pots to use as table-top Christmas trees.
It looks immaculately clean!! I wonder who cleans the place? The floors were absolutely clean!
I met a ranger as I was leaving. She was coming in to clean it.
I saw shades of green that I've never seen before. 😯
You are an amazing woman! Love watching your adventures!

Those bugs are loud!!! Lol...👠🚌👠 Ohhhhh!!! Those are birds making that noise!!! Lol...👠🚌👠

I just love the sound of the kereru in flight
Very pretty there ! You are doing amazing things girl !
Wood pigeon or Kereru and sitting up on a Puriri tree feeding on the Puriri berries.
Beautiful country.. ⚘⚘
"This is how I deal with fear: I don't think about it" LOL. I can relate to that. So could Anna in "The King and I" when she whistled that happy tune!
