  • Trekking around his home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, wildlife photographer Thomas Mangelsen tunes into the natural environment through a collection of telephoto lenses, camera bodies, and a trusty pair of waterproof hiking boots. Camera and tripod balanced over his shoulder, Mangelsen ventures into a place where he finds both peace and wonder, looking to capture it through the art of photography. His subjects include migrating elk herds, matriarchal grizzly bears, and other wild residents of nearby Grand Teton National Park, while also being prepared to be surprised by what nature offers him on any given day.
Mangelsen patiently waits for 'the' moment when all of the variables - the animal itself, backdrop of habitat, good light, and sometimes atmosphere - align. It can take days, months, years to materialize, returning to the same place and preparing for magic to happen.

I despair on the attitude of the authorities (Fish and Game+) and some others of our species towards these animals. Shame on them. Leave the bears be, stop hazing and stop hunting. We have a responsibility to protect our bear and animal population and not execute them for so called 'sport'.
