If you follow Rick Conti. He tracked his non-Z51 a couple of times. At the end he glassed his brakes and boiled the brake fluid. Now he is buying a new C8 with Z51.
Mag ride keeps the tires on the road under high stress. That will keep you on the road if you make a mistake or two. Comfort is not why I would option it.
@@BrinkofSpeed I love the mag ride with my C7 Z06 and that’s why I wanted it on my C8. The Z51 on the C8? I think I would have been fine without it but didn’t want to regret it later. Especially for resale. Love your new spec, Mike, and I think you are going to love the one-button vert!
Good evaluation, I chose to go with Non-Z51 w/mag ride...at the time I ordered Z51 was on constraint plus I plan on never tracking my car. I did go with the NPP exhaust so the saving was only about $3255. I do like the smooth ride with the non-Z51/Mag Ride car. Its by far the best riding Corvette in history.
Great video Mike. I have a 2020 2LT coupe with Z51 and no Mag ride and a 2022 3LT HTC with Mag ride and no Z51 and there is a big noticeable difference. The 2022 HTC is a much smoother ride. I don’t have anything to compare it to but my ‘23 coupe with Z51 and mag ride is so smooth in tour mode, I’m blown away. Everyone else that has rode in it says the same thing. My main complaint with the car is the 14 speaker Bose system is not very good for heavy metal!! Minor complaint though.
Thanks for finally answering my questions about mag ride on a non-Z51. I previously tried contacting you by email and through your website with no response. But now I have the answers. Keep up the good work!
I went Z51 and mag ride on my 23 HTC and have no regrets. Admittedly I’ve never driven any other C8’s and won’t track the car, but I really enjoy being able to adjust the suspension as I’ve got rough roads right around my house but smooth roads in the areas where I do spirited driving. And I must say there is a very noticeable and significant difference in the ride between Tour, Sport and Track modes. In fact I’ve set up MyMode to have everything maxed out but the softest suspension setting and Z-mode with everything maxed out and the medium suspension setting. Those are the only 2 modes I ever need.
Thanks for the video great information I agree If you have the extra money for the packages it's worth it if not you still got a beautiful Corvette Take care
My c5, c6, and c7 were all z51s. The c5 had mag ride and I rarely used it. I left the stiff ride mode on 95% of the time. I'd only turn it on if I had a hot date on a Saturday night. 😊 My c6 and C7 were z51 without mag ride and it was fine. Noone in the passenger seat ever complained. The biggest difference in the ride quality was nonrunflat tires... That made a much bigger improvement than mag ride. I never have tracked a car and prob never will but I will always get z51, mainly for the extra cooling.. I live in Florida. 😊 and of course bragging rights..
I went z51 because I like the idea of having extra cooling for the engine (especially since I ordered the convertible) and bigger Brembo brakes for stopping. The NPP exhaust, suspension and summer tires all seem like a great value to me personally
Ihave 2022 C8 convertible with mag ride and I do notice the difference because a friend of mine has the Z 51 package my car is a lot smoother around the turns and handles a lot better I live in the mountains so I don’t know if you flatlanders but I do notice the difference.
Good vid. I know it's a year old. No real facts that I didn't already know, but it's nice to hear the opinions of people who have driven the cars with and without these options. I have a C7 with Z51 and NPP, but without mag-ride.
I've owned a 21 htc non-Z51 with mag-ride a 22 htc Z-51 with mag-ride and now have a 23 htc with mag-ride. The 21 I built and ordered the other 2 they were dealer built C-8 's. All great to drive. Mag-ride is a must either way, Z-51 a buyers decision.
Had base black C6 w/mag ride, upgraded brakes and NPP exhaust, non-Z51 coupe, and kept it for 14 years. Just bought a 70th Z51 black over white convertible with no mag ride, but wish it did. Only have 90 miles on it, but it seems to handle way better than my C6, and nearly as smooth. The only reason I have this vehicle is because it was on the showroom floor, and getting ahold of a 70th was getting hard to find. I’m not upset, it’s still an awesome car. I really wanted the HTC, not a targa top.
Mine is a 1LT Z51 with Mag ride. It’s surprisingly smooth with suspension in Tour. I wouldn’t mind having heated seats & rear view camera but don’t find them necessary. Half the fancy options in my Escalade quit working after 10 years so I went with the bare essentials in the C8.
The only other item to consider for some people is resale value and those who may be looking to purchase used in the future. Z51 cars will attract more people interested in a used C8. Its also more desirible for resale for dealers at trade in.
I never intend to track my HTC ( I have a race car) and I really didn’t want the Z51 wing, so I ended up with a non Z51, being a 2020, Mag was not available as a standalone option then. I’m very surprised at how comfortable it is, and I live in “terrible roads Canada”. The NPP is a must.
All good points, but that “better trade in/resale value” is bullcrap. It all depends on the market. You can have a fully spected car and non of those checked option boxes will matter when you take it in for appraisal. You will get low balled almost every time. Just get what you want or what you can afford and enjoy it
Did I miss somewhere in your vlogs why you ordered this C8 non Z51, non Mag Ride ? Especially when you show more pros than cons ? Thanks for all you do 😃
My 2023 70th anniversary edition has the Z51 and magride....it also has the carbon flash metallic paint...I can't wait to pick it up this Saturday February 4th
I have a Z-51 performance package in my 96 C-4 and I'm glad I do. Lower gears, better steering, better suspension etc... I think a Z-51 in any generation of Corvette is a must. Makes the Vette more of a race car than a cruiser.
Adjustable coil overs vs mag ride. Adjustable, always better for setting up your car.....not quicker but better. The Gm engineers did a good job, but the aftermarket is an upgrade of your choosing. Great video
This is Michael. Good video Brink. But you forgot two other really important reasons NOT to get z51. A lot of people don't want the soft rubber on the summer tires that it must come with it, and a lot of people don't like that rear spoiler either. The car looks a lot better without it. those are the two main reasons I didn't get Z 51.
I personally like the Z51 wing better than the low wing. I'd have to get one aftermarket since there's currently no option to get that wing....but you can essentially get everything else (like mag ride, NPP) in the Z51 as an option....go figure.
I’m not sure I understand your question here, but I believe you can get the Z51 wing without ordering a Z51 car, that is unless it’s currently under constraint. 👍
@@BrinkofSpeed I did a build the other day, it wouldn't let me pick the Z51 spoiler without buying the whole Z51 package. However, it let me remove the Z51 aero package from the Z51 option. 🤔
@@mrcjjr GM gets insane thinking about all the money they will lose if anyone could just get the spoiler put on at the factory. On my new 87 Buick T-type they did the same thing. No GN spoilers allowed on a turbo T-type. You just have to have to go to the body shop and tell them to put it on and they will but it will cost you a little. lol.
You give great info to consider. I am still not sure what to do for my 2025 order. I WILL NOT Track it and prefer all season tires. As a Florida year round resident it's close to100 degrees for a few months so I think the extra cooling would be helpful. Really don't care for a loud exhaust but want the better brakes and additional cooling. What to do???
I think the C8 will sell quicker with Z51 and Mag ride but I don't think the resale value will be that much higher than the non Z51/mag ride. Not sure what I will order when my allocation arrives. No plans to track the car but it does sound like it will ride much better with mag ride. Seems like ordering mag ride without Z51 would be a odd build. I know, can't go wrong with Z51 and Mag ride. Still trying to justify the additional dollars when I'm not going to track ...Thoughts ??
If I was buying one, I would build it for what I want or need and not worry about selling it quicker to the next owner. I feel that if it's a clean, well kept car, it will sell with or without those particular options. Personally, when I was looking to buy a C7 a year ago, I could have cared less about Z51, since I had no intention of ever tracking it. I had other priority options that were more important to me. I don't understand why so many people want Z51 but never go near a racetrack. There are plenty of other things that I can spend $6500 on.
@@JJAAZZMan Thanks and I agree....I have had a Porsche 911 Carrera S and GT3 which I bought new and I admit that I found myself buying options that I did not need thinking about the next owner and resale value. Maybe this time I will spec it for what i need and want and forget about the next owner.....
I don’t think you’ll regret either way, but for a high performance car like this I’d personally rather have the bigger brakes, extra radiator for cooling and suspension to get the most out of it. If you’re going to drop $80k+, I wouldn’t skip out on it.
I was on the fence on my 2022 HTC between Z51 and Non-Z51 with Mag Ride and since I never planned to track the car, I went with Non-Z51. I did go with the NPP, low wing spoiler with Z51 splitter and rocker extensions to give it a more aggressive stance. Another factor I considered was the all season tires, which gave me more confidence in inclement weather. I also went to Spring Mountain and they did a presentation on how to prep the Z51 for track, which includes adding two additional quarts of transmission fluid, track alignment, installing the brake ducts, and proper helmet, etc. Once done, you need to realign to road use and remove the brake ducts. After hearing all this, I feel I made the correct decision. Hope this info helps.
@@bobs9758 Thanks Bob for the info. It turns out that your build is almost exactly what I spec last night. The only thing I don't have on mine is the rocker extensions because I went with the body color exterior accents and I'm not sure which way I like the looks, with or without the rocker extensions. Mine is the 3LT because I want the red dipped interior. I thought the Mag Ride without Z51 would be an odd build but I think there is a lot of C8 Non Z51s with mag ride....Thanks Again.....
Beautiful car. I watched the video of you taking delivery. I do have a semi dumb question. Is this car a stand-by until you get a Z06 or did I misinterpret? Thanks.
I ordered a HTC. No Z51 or mag ride this time. Low wing spoiler and black wheels with red calipers. 1 LT and have the rear view mirror . It’s $4K less then my old 2021 coupe 2LT with the Z51 and mag ride Love the HTC that looks like a Z51. Tires allow me to drive in the winter in Atlanta. Roads are not damaged or bumpy so mag ride isn’t necessary.
I even love the Mag Ride in my 04 XLR, with a far slower computer to adjust them. The shocks were all leaking when I got it at 80K miles and it was around $1500 to replace them through Rock Auto with a "lifetime" warranty. Now at 108K miles and I can't say enough good about them. It totally controls the car over big changes like the video showed and it corners flat. I'd option that in any chance I got.
Can you do a video reviewing the ventilated seats? I live in florida so this is really important to me and I cannot find any videos that discuss it at all.
They work pretty good, as good as any of them out there. One bit of advice is tint your front windshield 70% ceramic tint, visually it won’t look tinted but will dramatically cut the heat out.
Hey Mike, great video again! My 2014 C7 had both and I did not track the car. TBH I didn't really notice a huge difference. That being said, when my order went in for my C8 I did not get the Z51 but wanted the Mag Ride. FE2 was on constraint and I didn't want to wait so I pulled the trigger. I was also able to use some of that money to get Stealth interior, Perf exhaust, black tips, Dual roof, etc. Also without Z51 I will get the All Season tires that I wanted, I have a tentative TPW of 12/12 but we will see. Still at 3000 probably because I have the new black wheels. Keep up the great videos!😎👍
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I totally get it, and your build sounds like a great spec! I hope you get it sooner than later and the wheels don’t hold you up. I sure will 👍😊
@legod1717 I'd love to hear back from you regarding when your allocation paired to get you beyond 1100 status and onto 2000. I went 2000 at the early Nov allocation cycle and I'm dying to know when I'll advance past my current 3000 status. Been sitting at 3000 for nearly 3 weeks now?!?! Thanks for any feedback
@@clark-n-anitakalens7599 I went to 3000 on Sept.26. So I’ve been at that level ever since. I put my order in on Sept. 19. Got everything I wanted except Mag Ride but I’m ok with that. Not a deal breaker for me. Seems most orders take about 6 to 8 weeks before moving forward (May be longer because of parts)
I went with the 2024 1LT Couple for a few reasons... It was the cheapest model, coming in at a few grand under MSRP in the new Cacti Green with the Performance Exhaust... I also liked that the 1LT is the lightest model, and has lower aero drag... So the Z61 might have a smidge more grip due to the added downforce, but that also adds weight and takes 10mph off the top speed... When you look at the quarter mile times of the Z51 and base model, the base model usually has a slightly higher trap speed, so even at those speeds, the Z51 aero package is starting to slow the car down... And honestly, I agree with the stock suspension being smooth as hell on the road. Again, maybe on track there is a slight difference in lap times, but for the street I found the suspension firm but plush, and that's with the stiff AF Michelin run flats fitted.
I have a C-7 Stingray 2015 w/o magride. Non Z51. Had front and rear Z51 sway bars installed. Rear doesn't have them at all. Do you think the longer wheelbase makes it ride better than a C-7?
Agree with this guy. You DO nOT need z51 package if you don’t plan on tracking your car. Save some money and you can buy the lip and spoiler options separately. You also don’t need mag ride, unless your city is a POs with potholes everywhere .
Have had both mag ride and no mag ride. Live in the Atlanta area and roads are not all chopped up from the winter season. I don’t miss mag ride one bit. Waste of money
Are you asking a question or making a statement? How about mentioning the cost of replacement mag ride shocks after they start to leak, which eventually they will. I replaced mine twice on my C7.
A disadvantage of Z51 would be anyone who drives their car year round would have to change tires for winter. Having two sets of wheels and tires can be logistically challenging for some folks.
I have owned two 2023 HTC C8's - first one with mag ride and no Z51, 2nd one with Z51 and no mag ride - I haven't noticed any difference in ride quality. I also owned a 2016 Tahoe with mag ride. All four shocks went out at 60k miles (no crazy 4wd activities) - $3800 to replace mag shocks. How much do you think it will cost to relace the C8 mag ride shocks - $5k?
Having a WRX as my daily, my non mag ride C8 feels like butter by comparison. If I wanted a moving couch would have gotten a Cadillac not a sports car but that’s just my opinion
If you're gonna track your car at all, you need Z51 and mag ride. If that's not in your plans, then you don't. But for me, it seems like a very good value to add both, plus your car will sell more later.
This was great! I didn’t understand as well as I do now. You’ve affirmed my desire to go Z51 w/ Mag Ride. My next question: is the Memory Front lift worth the $?
Did not need or want I will never have my car on the track I ordered my car to be a daily driver, and I am totally fine with it and that's all that matters.
@brink of speed Can you confirm or deny this about mag ride? It was my understanding that Mag Ride allows the stiffness and rebound settings of the shock system to be modified electronically while non mag ride, you get one set of settings and thats it. So for example if you are daily driving your mag ride you would set it to the softer settings, but then if you want to do stop light drag races or want to do twisty roads at high speed for fun you can go to Z mode and it tightens up the shocks for you so the car feels more direct and responsive. And in particular if you ever went to the track, you could drive there in the cushy street mode and when you get there press race mode and your C8 will corner much better. Meanwhile, with non mag ride, you get one setting and thats it. And because you only get one setting its set up a bit on the soft side, but not completely
I have a 2023 Z51 convertible that's nearly identical to your non-Z51 including the color scheme and also without Mag Ride but the ride is a lot smoother than my C7 ZO6 was with Mag Ride. Besides, I didn't buy a sports car because I'm looking for a smooth ride. To the contrary, I enjoy feeling more of the road. To each his own!
Have you seen the front windshield and side window tint protective dad prank put on his c8 he says he is Texas but I can’t see him getting away it for very long he had a group out Dallas put it on !!
Great video
Z51 is a steal for the amount of perks you get. I couldn’t get this car without that. That’s just me tho
You could have chose the z51 package with aero delete…
You just have to have to go to the body shop and tell them to put it on and they will but it will cost you a little. lol.
Avery good demonstration of not having enough damping. Throw some KW V3s on it, and you have adjustable suspension.
Thanks.
I like the mag ride while daily driving.
If you do not have both Z51 AND magnetic ride, you will not have Performance Track Management (PTM).
Great video, love seeing the car and you driving it. Not a fan of sitting inside talking about cars that are outside.
Arg.
I'm wanting this very clean, one owner, low mile '23,
Z51 only. I'd prefer with Mag but...
I do own a C6Z and love how it feels.
@@nrdemon1031 that’s definitely helpful, thank you!
Seems most orders take about 6 to 8 weeks before moving forward (May be longer because of parts)
thanks,,, mike , great video
Has anyone mentioned if you wrap the hood in Carbon Flash it would look really good? 😊
🤣😂🤣
I have a C-7 Stingray 2015 w/o magride. Non Z51. Had front and rear Z51 sway bars installed. Rear doesn't have them at all. Do you think the longer wheelbase makes it ride better than a C-7?
I have a 2023 c8. Convertible ceramic matrix gray metallic , none z51 none mag ride. Red & black interior
I almost didn’t recognize you without the ball cap. LOL! 😂
I wish I could add mag ride to my non mag C8.
Hello!
I bought my Corvette secondhand. How do I know if I have z 51 or mag control?
Magride makes a massive difference and should be standard. Had on Caddy 8 years now
As always very informative 👍
The mag ride was the first thing my wife noticed when going from a '09 Z06 to a '10 ZR1.
The non magride 08 convertible compared to a Z06 is like a Caddy to a pickup truck.
Today was the last day, but if te pickup isn't until tomorrow, then it shouldn't be a problem.
Are you asking a question or making a statement? How about mentioning the cost of replacement mag ride shocks after they start to leak, which eventually they will. I replaced mine twice on my C7.
And you have my ride. I have the same ceramic gray 2023 ride and folks love it.
I'm getting Z51 with no mag ride
A Z51 without mag ride has a very limited PTM if any.
Why didn't you get both?
What's the magride cost replacement?
On a C8, I found non-Mag ride at about $3500... and Mag ride at about $10,600!
Very helpful, Thank you!
So it would be correct to say Mag ride tightens up the ride and handling while not being as stiff as Z51 but less floaty than non Mag ride? 🤔
But it’s a smoother ride with it. If you are spending 90K+ on a car, don’t pinch pennies. Order the mag ride
I keep hearing people say that the ride is smooth with or without mag ride..............................I'll be getting a non-Z51 with mag ride.
thanks for sharing. Have you driven a non Z51 with mag ride in sporty driving in track or just the back road.
Chevrolet needs to go back to the C7 head lights for the C8. They also need to tweek the interior
I'm going back to a non-Z51 car as I hate the brake dust.
a vette without limited slip differential is stoopid, hence need for z51
That lower profile spoiler is sooo much better.
I have a 2023 Stingray 2LT with Mag Ride and Z51 - I wouldn't change a thing. Actually consider my car to be the best a car of this nature can be.
Oops, sorry... Thank you for these great comparisons!
Have you seen the front windshield and side window tint protective dad prank put on his c8 he says he is Texas but I can’t see him getting away it for very long he had a group out Dallas put it on !! I get stopped all the time for no front plate can’t imagine what it be like with blacked out windshield and driver window 😊
My favorite color had a C7 Z06 matrix gray, ordering my Z06 in that color.
good explanation
Dope video man!
Thank you 😊
Good video! Well explained info!
