  • Jamie Dimon is an American banker and businessman, currently serving as the chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase since 2006.
Dimon’s career began as a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group. After earning his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1982, he joined American Express, working alongside his mentor Sandy Weill until 1985. At 30, he became the CFO of Commercial Credit, a consumer finance company. Dimon later became president and COO of Travelers and Smith Barney, and in 1998, he was named president of Citigroup. In 2000, Dimon became CEO of Bank One, and after its merger with JPMorgan Chase in 2004, he was appointed COO of the combined company. By 2006, he was named CEO of JPMorgan Chase.
Dimon has served on the boards of several key institutions, including the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He has been listed multiple times in Time magazine's 100 most influential people, and as of 2024, his net worth is estimated at $2 billion.
Born in New York City, Dimon grew up in Queens. He is one of three sons of Theodore and Themis Dimon, of Greek ancestry. His paternal grandfather, who changed the family name from Papademetriou to Dimon, was a banker in Greece. Dimon attended the Browning School and graduated summa cum laude from Tufts University with a degree in psychology and economics. He earned his MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar. Afterward, he joined American Express, a decision influenced by Sandy Weill and his father, who was an executive vice president there.
After leaving American Express in 1985, Dimon joined Weill at Commercial Credit, where he became CFO. Together, they transformed the company through a series of mergers, eventually forming Citigroup in 1998. Dimon left Citigroup that same year after tensions arose between him and Weill.
In 2000, Dimon became CEO of Bank One, overseeing its operations until its merger with JPMorgan Chase in 2004. He became COO of the combined company and later, in 2006, its CEO. Under his leadership, JPMorgan Chase has grown to become the largest U.S. bank in terms of assets, market capitalization, and stock value.
