It’s so strange to see Barrow before Portland Walk, before we lost the cranes from Barrow’s skyline, it’s like another town. A stark reminder of how easily the past can be pulled down and replaced.
At 6:17 you show inside an office that was opposite Dolings shop. I am curious if it was Greenwoods or Marks and Spencers because I would have been surprised if Greenwoods would have had an IBM mainframe type computer and so many staff. Always bought my clothes there and their prices didn't seem to warrant such an investment.
That was actually the office s of Ward Glass on Emlyn Street. The Dolings place across the road was a storage garage, not the shop on Dalton Road. I seem to recall they had boats parked there quite a lot!
@@misterchippie Thanks for getting back to my question. I would never have figured that out since the Dolings place is on Google Maps for 2009 but the office building for Wards was long gone! You have some very interesting videos from 1992 that filled in gaps I had missed with my own,
@@davidnoble1485 I'm glad you find them interesting, I'm glad that I took the footage, just wish I'd filmed more. It seemed so mundane at the time, but 30 years on it's a little treasure chest.
Wow! Thanks mate. That brought back memories. I'll never forget Quigley's. I didn't think Abbey Baths came down until a few years later. Nice one.

Love it, Barrow!
