One question if possible: why are the extruded portions (from the middle part) perpendicular ? Why weren't made parallel for both sides?

If the Middle Part has both side Parallel Extruded Portions then the both shafts become concentric after assembly.
But the Main Purpose of an Oldham Coupling is to connect to parallel shafts which are some distance apart.
