Where I live, the Pixel 7a is still 450€. That's still way too much for a phone IMO. The 6a is a better deal since you can get that one at around 350€, but that's the absolute max I'm willing to spend on a phone, period. I'd normally buy a cheaper phone with stock Android, but the 6a and 7a are one of very few stock Android phones that don't require you to have giant hands. My trusty Pixel 5a is more than enough in size for my teeny tiny hands. Unfortunately it's dying on me due to me dropping it like an absolute moron.

Pixel 7a currently available for £449 RRP and you can get £70 off from Boxing Day sales, and you can get an additional 5% off from a promo code available online which subtracts a further £22.45. Plus I'm trading in a 2019 Pixel 4 XL for £119, which I feel is pretty generous of them meaning it'll be £237.55, or 47.1% saving. I'm really pleased with that to be honest. I also suspect the May 2024 Pixel 8a will have another £50 bump up in price and obviously won't come with any sales until Black Friday in November and the Christmas sales too, so the 7a right now seems a steal. Jan 9th is when Google sale ends.

I think you'd be fine tbh. I'd also add there's the Android battery 'adaptive preferences' which learns how you use your phone so would slightly improve your battery over the first few days and weeks maybe. I'd also say in those first few days and weeks you'll use your phone a lot more so they're not ideal times to be basing your decision on battery size, although hopefully you'd at least get a feel for it

The premise of this video is one that i would have totally agreed with before the Pixel 8 came out. If you're looking for a phone with a low lifetime cost of ownership, the extra two and a half years of support make the Pixel 8 a better buy. I'm one for using my phones until they are no longer supported so the 8 is where it's at for me. I'm looking forward to seeing what the Pixel 8a looks like because there is a good chance that it will be the new killer value proposition.

As the default techy person of my family I told my wife that I would do the upgrade and see how the phone was before we upgraded her's. Very glad I did. I would have kept the phone if it weren't for the one extraordinary really serious problem. Battery life. IT'S BAD. By far the worst battery life of any phone I have ever had in my entire life. The problem is compounded by the fact that the charging is so slow (something they solved on every OnePlus phone a long long time ago) and the wireless charging barely functions. I have a Tesla which has wireless charging. The Pixel 7a would connect and begin charging but then would LOOSE battery over the drive. Granted it would've lost more battery life without wireless charging just sitting there, but the idea of wireless changing is to CHARGE the phone. Google didn't even get that right. My friends who have iPhones immediately get a charge that increases over the drive. How in the world did my brand new Google phone not have the capability to wirelessly charge properly.
