  • This video concludes the project and shows how I completed wiring the lights and applying the decals. The video ends with a final review of the completed model. I apologize for the grainy video in the final review. My camcorder doesn't do well in low lighting but was the only way to show the model with the lights activated.

    Thank you for these great builds. This has been VERY informative. I do have a couple of questions with one area I just can't understand, and no one else seems to explain. In the beginning of this video you explain the dilemma with the gluing of both halves of the saucer. What I just can't understand, is why don't you simply wait to paint the saucer until both hales are glued together. Would that just make things easier? Can you please explain to me why it seems that every Star Trek builder always paint's the pieces before gluing, which seems to be more work in the end. Also, how are you using model glue once these parts are "pre-painted"? I'm told that model glue only works on clean plastic, not painted plastic. This really confuses me. Can you please explain?

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  11 месяцев назад

      Hi….the main answer to your question are the windows and portholes. They would be very difficult to mask due to their size and number. As for glue, I do my best to leave the places where glue will be applied clear of paint. I hope that helps and thanks for your kind comments. Feel free to email me if you have other questions, thanks. Interstellarmodeler at gmail

    I have been quietly watching your channel for some time now, and your videos are excellent for all qualifications of builders (I've been doing starships since the 6th grade, 1976). After watching this one, I'm thinking that Polar Lights just needs to go 1/350th on this version of the Enterprise for space, effects and overall quality. Looking forward to seeing more videos! I presume the five downvotes were Klingons.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  3 года назад +1

      Hi Drew, thank you for watching and for taking the time to leave a nice compliment. I love 350 scale ships and sure wish I had room for more of them. As it stands, the TOS 1/350 is the only one I've built so far. I do agree, this particular ship would look awesome at 1/350. I just started the Ptolemy class conversion of the 1/1000 Polar Lights TOS Enterprise. We'll see how that turns out. I think you'll find that one to be an interesting build. As for the down votes, well I guess you can't please everyone Lol. Thanks again.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  2 года назад

      Hi Justin. There are quite a few videos out there, can't say I can recommend one in particular. A few hints that I've learned over the years. Gloss coating the model prior to application is important. I used to not think so but it avoids silvering caused by uneven adhesion. The gloss can be eliminated with dull coat after application. The softening liquids are also critical for surfaces with uneven or varying contour. Hope that helps.

      So this is a little gadget I purchased at a miniatures show. The show was for those who build miniatures and doll houses, neither of which I do but I thought it might have stuff for modelers. That's not a Bussard collector, it's a deflector dish. A Bussard ramjet collects interstellar hydrogen in order to power a fusion engine. Hey Oggie, great build! Just one question: How often do you have to change your batteries in any/all of your built kits and do you find it difficult to do?

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  3 года назад +2

      Hey Shannon.....not often since I don't really keep them on very long. I do check them monthly just to make sure they're not going bad but other than that they can last quite a while. If this one were to be kept on I estimate it may last an hour. The motors chew up a lot of power. I also try to position them in the build with changing them in mind so it's not too hard if you plan ahead. Thanks Shannon.

      @@InterstellarModeler The greater concern with batteries is how often do you USE them if they're still plugged into a pack situation.
      I've had batteries rupture inside remotes and other electronics and you're lucky if it doesn't damage the electronics!
      If I know I'm NOT going not to use remotes regularly, I don't leave batteries in them. For other things that still have the batteries inside, I power up briefly and discharge to "wear down" the batteries. As long as you do that regularly, the batteries won't rupture. It's when you don't touch things for months or years the danger will always there that the battery will rupture if it doesn't get discharged regularly.
      I've been lucky that in every situation I've had battery ruptures, my remotes and electronic devices were lying in such a way the chemical did not spill onto PCB's. At worst, they whitened the contact areas of metal that touches the batteries but even that metal was still conducting a current after I cleaned it as best as I could.
