In 2018 Polar Lights released the 350 scale K'Tinga Model kit. It's 24 inches long and features great engineering and was designed for lighting. That Model kit was designed to match the ship as it was seen in Star Trek The Motion Picture.
This model kit is updated to represent the ship as seen in Star Trek VI. In Star Trek VI the ship had new lighting, lots of new detailing and new color scheme. The kit has many updated parts, new decals and photo etch.
There will also be a lighting kit available, that works on both version of the kit and a separate photo etch set.

Thank you for sharing another well done kit review. My favorite part of the lighting kit is that it is self contained, power supply and all.
It's also nice and interesting that the batteries are in the same place as on the original 1960s Klingon model kit by amt.Looking forward to see your build (as always)!!

I haven’t built any of the Polar Lights kits yet. I would LOVE to get and build the original series Enterprise, the refit (STtMP) Enterprise and the Klingon Battle Cruiser (never knew it was supposed to be known as a “K’Tang-A”), but WOW… $200+ for a friggin’ plastic model kit is a bit crazy, and beyond my budget capability!
When I stopped building model kits years ago, I think the most I ever spent was about $25-$30… including all of the supplies! I believe the last kit I built was a “Next Generation” Enterprise-D, which ended up as quite a nice representation of the ship from the show, despite numerous design flaws (IMO) that caused a lot of frustration during the build and after.
Nevertheless, I’m going to keep looking for a “deal.” Maybe I’ll get lucky one day. 🫤
… Oh, by the way, I like the Kronos-1 kit, but I actually prefer the other version of the ship (from the Motion Picture).
I like the previous version of the bridge a LOT more, and I always thought that the green-glowing portion of the engine nacelles from the Kronos-1 was kind of gimmicky and overstated.
Because of the extra detail, I think if I ever get one, I would probably get the Kronos-1, but I wouldn’t illuminate the nacelles with the green-glow section. I would HOPE that I would still be able to light the smaller pin-lighted areas on the engines, like you did with your first model, but my guess is that it wouldn’t be exactly the same unless I happened to come across the right spare parts from the previous version. 🤔
On second thought, I think I might just prefer to get the Motion Picture version and add a few extra details myself. 🫤

I thought about painting the aztec patterns but decided not to do that. I used a light shifting color changing paint instead. It looks cool as hell when as the light changes the color goes from dark sparkly green to a turquoise.

Silver interior never reflects light as one would think. Not even lining foil in there will do it. Gloss white is the only way.

I dont know if this is an error on the box art: 'Qo'noS' is the name of the Klingon Homeworld, 'Kronos' is how it is pronounced.

I was looking forward to this one but I don't think using decals for what should have been more photo etch was the right thing to do. It would really be nice to be wrong about that though. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

    • @slighter
      @slighter Год назад

I think that was due to cost cutting. The kit is rather expensive and the chrome-gold decals already go a long way for many. For the pro's there will be the separate photo etch kit. This is something the hardcore people will gladly pay extra for but using the decals as default makes this more accessible for the masses.

Having reworked one of the original kits into this, yes.
There are numerous details that are hard to reproduce without either casting 1:72 star wars kits or cutting those apart.

Looking at the new parts, I realize that there was a star wars kit bashed into this that I hadn't realized when I built mine.
I knew about the bottom of Vader's TIE (bridge) and the x-wing engines in the vent section
      BUT
I'm seeing parts from the old speederbike kit.

Where was the review of the updated Kronos ONE light kit itself??? All I saw was more footage of your previous k'tinga models light kit!!! Did the new version of the light kit come with alternate parts for hte K'tinga to have the details of the Kronos One nacelle lighting shown in ST Enterprise footage of the D7/K'tinga model?? The Kronos One update lighting kit needs its own video please showing contents, alt parts, etc!

@@TheDavidPoole I wish he had shown its contents. As I "[REALLY]" wanted to know if the kronos one update light kit came with green colored casted versions of those new textured nacel insert sheet parts that run the length inside the nacel. Or if it didnt at all, as I have no idea atm if I need to buy 2 light kits for green translucent casted parts, or just get 2 kits for what I need for my custom build.

I really dislike when someone does a video and includes extensive history of the subject and even though yours's is a bit different I still dislike the first 5-10 minutes, just down right unnecessary. On the other hand your video is helpful, got one on order from a local hobby shop and now I know what colors to buy when it comes in.

Don’t use the phot teaching kit. It just didn’t turn out that interesting. Matter of fact. The holes in the photo teaching blocks the window lights at an angle and it just doesn’t look that interesting.
