When someone is suspected to be on drugs that's how you get shot! They shouldn't have been that aggressive... but you cant talk your way out of everything!
I hate it when people call fidgeting “stiming” in the context of autism, and talk about it like it’s this strange behaviour that no one else does, but it is literally just fidgeting! What is true is that people with autism tend to be much more fidgety then most people.
The thing they were called stimming was the technique Conner was using to calm down, which was playing with a string. It had nothing to do with fidgeting at all.
There's nothing wrong with the word "stimming". It is done by everybody, but us on the spectrum tend to stim in a way viewed as abnormal by other people.
That's not reasonable that cop went out of his way to put his hands on that teenager number one a police officer does not have any right to put his hands on anyone unless he is arresting them for a crime this child had done nothing wrong so that cop should be punished. The end.
aint there any other way than bumping the person straight on the ground. there should be penalty point system for the officers who fail to justify their suspicion
Yeah that’s a stupid idea. Say he walks up on a drug user and somehow he proves to not have used drugs, even though the suspicion was right he’d get a penalty..
I have autism and had an interaction like this... I got lost when walking home and walked up to am officer asking for help. When talking to people I fidget and look all over the place and stumble over my words, like giving three different phone numbers that were not any of my mom’s cellphone. They started badgering me and questioning me about being high. They had a flashlight in my eyes and kept asking “did you take (names drug)?” I finally broke down and started crying and then they threw me in the back of a cop car... they only treated me “nicer” when mom finally arrived and explained the situation.
I have Asperger's. Yeah, I have had some negative cop interactions too but I am a direct communicator so I tell people that what they're doing is hurting me. Never had a cop assume I was on drugs or tackle me even when I was confused and combative about the situation.(they booted my car for no reason...irony, cop calmed me down and then tried to escalate the situation when I calmed down because he wanted to arrest me. Which didn't happen. Long story short. They took the boot off my car and told me to behave myself.)
when I was a teen I was walking down side walk with some friends. I fell into some bushes, the next thing ya know cops surround us. I was slammed on the ground, was accused of being on drugs. now here is the catch, I had a broken leg and was on crutches and the side walk was all cracked, uneven etc. causing me to lose my balance. cops didn't give a damn, they took me to the station, refused to take my crutches with me. I was 16 at the time. they were down right rotton. they called my mom, who came to the station, she made a phone call, and within min I was let go.
I had a person that went to one of my schools that had Autism. People bullied him and were mean to him from the way he acted. Only a few people (including me) actually stood up for him. It's just cruel to treat people like that just because they're different.
Connor: plays with string Cop: HOLY CRIPES HES GOT A STRING!! UR GOING TO COURT!! Connor: why is there a police chasing me?? 10 seconds later... HELP ME
My biggest fear as a mom with a child that has autism. I worry everyday that someone will hurt him or take advantage of him being autistic. This is like that scene from radio. The officer needs to be held responsible.
Also if you see the body cam footage, either way if the officer is trying to talk to you you can’t run away, it’ll look like you’re a criminal trying to escape custody. And the last few seconds you see the kid fighting the officer back.
How? He does know what he's doing. The kid's behavior at the moment made him seem like he was selling drugs. He was trained to do what he did and on top of that He didn't know the kid had autism. So he does know what he's doing.
He saw what he thought was some exhibiting signs of being under the influence of narcotics. The boy moved away from him. The officer grabbed him so he could be cuffed making sure the kid couldn't get away. He pulled away and a struggle began which resulted in very minor injuries. From everything in the video the level of force used was appropriate.
The cop knew very well what he was doing.. It's just that the cops in US, is trained to use excessive violence.. Even if a person had drugs, that is a sick way to handle it by the cops..
Wafa Mohamed How even. Some people act suspicious, he may have had autism but he acted in a certain way that caused the cop to wonder. What if it was a drug dealer? Would you like him to just do nothing and let him carry on with the crimes?
For her to say that it’s almost impossible to learn every single piece of every single disorder makes me mad because it’s not impossible to educate yourself when you have a job like they do.
"it's almost impossible to know and understand every disability". You know what's not impossible? Not assaulting someone with no reasonable ground. I have a stutter that can get very severe at times and causes me to behave almost exactly like that when in stressful situations. I feel so bad for this guy and I hope this does not happen to the rest of us. And BTW, how did he not get ANY actions taken against him??

I hate it when people call fidgeting “stiming” in the context of autism, and talk about it like it’s this strange behaviour that no one else does, but it is literally just fidgeting! What is true is that people with autism tend to be much more fidgety then most people.
I agree. I have autism but i never fidget. Some do some dont
I only fidget when bored.
No, stimming is totally different from fidgeting, stop being ignorant.
The fact that they won't even apologize is just disgusting
How dare that officer. He should be fired that is assault
Chloe Fowlston really no it's not in any way . People sure use that word alot
@@isabellaperez2856 do u see the pictures of the poor boy body????
Chloe Fowlston hes a police officer
Isabella Perez I'm sure you have received your fair share of love taps with an attitude like that!
That's not reasonable that cop went out of his way to put his hands on that teenager number one a police officer does not have any right to put his hands on anyone unless he is arresting them for a crime this child had done nothing wrong so that cop should be punished. The end.
alice dees i agree
alice dees the cop should at least pay a fine even if it was a mistake he abused an autistic teen when he was doing nothing wrong
alice dees well the officer did his job because it did look like the kid was on drugs so the officer had every right to touch the kid
Yeah we should not arrest a person possibly on drugs roaming around
alice dees he thought he was on drugs
aint there any other way than bumping the person straight on the ground. there should be penalty point system for the officers who fail to justify their suspicion
Helmand Khan he thought he was on drugs
Helmand Khan
Not the cops fault on this one. Kid should know to not resist cops.
Helmand Khan he didnt
Yeah that’s a stupid idea. Say he walks up on a drug user and somehow he proves to not have used drugs, even though the suspicion was right he’d get a penalty..
Helmand Khan He tried handcuffing him but the started to crawl around and he couldn't, it was showed in the video.
Kid: *plays with string* :D
Cop: HE HAS A STRING I REPEAT HE HAS A STRING!!!!
Come on, this is easy lawsuit.
Justin Kim I know get some money for your son
I have mild autism I don't have much problems I do have a whining problem I have to make these noises and second I am sensitive
I also have autism. Respect
when I was a teen I was walking down side walk with some friends. I was 16 at the time. they were down right rotton. they called my mom, who came to the station, she made a phone call, and within min I was let go.
well congrats to you on your pet unicorn.

Even if he was a drug addict, thats not how you treat a teenager with autism, or anyone for that matter.
I had a person that went to one of my schools that had Autism. People bullied him and were mean to him from the way he acted. Only a few people (including me) actually stood up for him. It's just cruel to treat people like that just because they're different.
A police officer’s skull is just a cereal bowl.
Well...you've got something in common atleast
Now that's edgy.
“THAT HELMET’S GONNA MAKE A NICE BOWL FOR YOUR BRAINS!”

Connor: plays with string
Cop: HOLY CRIPES HES GOT A STRING!!
Welcome to America 2017 where you can't walk down the street with a disability without being attacked by police
I mean a kid shouldn’t walk down the street alone, much less a kid with a disability. His parent or guardian should be with him..
Also if you see the body cam footage, either way if the officer is trying to talk to you you can’t run away, it’ll look like you’re a criminal trying to escape custody. And the last few seconds you see the kid fighting the officer back.
+Q ue well he's a teenager what do you expect teenagers love to go out on their own..
Yup
If you’re deaf, you might get shot. Welcome to America.
what everyone sees:A boy playing with a string
what the cop sees:"He's on drugs.GET HIM"
Sounds like he's no expert
He looked like was on drugs *not a joke*
How could you tell if a person is high or autistic answer me
Charles Reed he was playing a string called stimming dumbass
@@James-us8do
Because one actually acts high and the other plays with string
“Minor injuries”
“May require surgery”
Those two sentences don’t work together
Clearly the cop doesn't know what he's doing...
From everything in the video the level of force used was appropriate.
agreed
Clearly you have no idea what your talking about
The cop knew very well what he was doing.. It's just that the cops in US, is trained to use excessive violence.. Even if a person had drugs, that is a sick way to handle it by the cops..
Connor: **plays with string**
Officer: **sniff** D R U G S
Of course they would say the officer's side. That way he can go on to hurt more innocent people.
Nobody should be treated like that
Even though I'm not related to any one autistic but I find saying autistic behavior is like someone on drugs is offensive
True.
Wafa Mohamed how
Wafa Mohamed How even. Some people act suspicious, he may have had autism but he acted in a certain way that caused the cop to wonder. What if it was a drug dealer? Would you like him to just do nothing and let him carry on with the crimes?

i can see why the cop did it

Popular opinion: immature adults won't ever except or admit they're wrong and they definitely won't apologize.
For her to say that it’s almost impossible to learn every single piece of every single disorder makes me mad because it’s not impossible to educate yourself when you have a job like they do.
This is sick. I am so sorry this happened to you.. Totally unacceptable actions taken by the police!!!
“He had behaviour of someone on drugs”
So...basically he was just being him and you thought he was on drugs??
Cruel.
“He received minor injuries”
“He may need knee surgery”
The minor injuries where the bruises and cuts
@Gacha Alpha no I know. But they’re saying he had minor injuries but might need knee surgery
If him using a string counts as drug then I’m sure me playing coffin dance on a keytar is mistaken for attempt at murder
As a person with autism myself and seen many friends with lower functioning autism I am saddened by this act.
shouldn't have the officer take a drug test for the teen, than doing what he did......
Maria Cool HE DIDNT KNOW THE TEEN HAS A DISABILITY

well even if he don't know they make the person take a test before saying he was under the influence of drugs
the kid kept walking away..

CasualWW2fananic IT DOESN'T MATTER IF HE DID OR DIDNT. EVEN IF THE KID DIDN'T HAVE A DISABILITY THE COP SHOULD BE FIRED AND SUED TO KINGDOM COME
Well that escalated really quick. That went from “do u have ID?” “No” to “AHHHHHHHHHH”
Cop actually stops someone breaking the law and gets fired for it.
