    • @sympunny8636
      @sympunny8636 5 лет назад +229

It's small but easy to build vertically and it's positioned really well near diamond city, for survival runs it's great. Also because you can't fast travel in suvival mode, but you can use the institute teleporter, the CIT ruins are right by hangmans alley which allows for very easy access. Not saying it's perfect but i use it quite a lot and wouldn't put in even close to the ones on this list.

    • @pixystixnfairycrack

You can also glitch the basic water pumps so that you can build them inside the walls of the surrounding building. As for settlement security, create a staircase going up to about the second story area. Build a floating walkway around the entrances, place turrets on the walkways and then scrap the walkways. The turrets (and Generators work for this too) will remain floating in the air and leaving you plenty of space to work around to build housing etc.

The “Scrap Everything” mod made some of these my favorite places to build. Outpost Z is what I usually turn in to a faction outpost with crazy defenses, nuclear power, and a vertibird landing pad. If you haven’t tried mods yet just get the most recent of Scrap Everything and it’ll make settlement building way more fun for you. You can even scrap the roads in Sanctuary or the dirty rubble and trash you find on the ground to make things look more clean/tidy. Combine it with the expanded settlement mods that are out there and you can even make Jamaica Plain in to a small town with much more room to build on.

Another mod to get that makes Jamaica Plain pretty awesome is the Snappy HouseKit mod. That one basically adds in all the tiles for pretty much every type of base building in the game, including the ruined ones in Jamaica plain. Heck, I used it to turn the broken down brick structure the workshop is located at into a 3-storey apartment building with roof access & a bunch of heavy laser turrets & a minuteman artillery piece on the roof. Using the same mod, I also completely restored the house next to it. Have plans to scrap the useless house & replace it with something that looks sorta similar but is actually usable.

My thought through this entire video was pretty much just "stilts". In one of my playthroughs I built a huge elevated pyramid covering almost the entire area of the murkwater site - way larger than any settlement has an actual use for. Mirelurk queen spawns underneath it and immediately gets blasted by a bunch of turrets.

Use the Mechanist Lair to connect to all settlements with robot convoys, that's all you need it for. Frees up the other settlements and its always funny to follow them and watch the mayhem as they keep the major paths and highways cleared. I love watching several of my robots ganging up on random Behemoths and Deathclaws.

I was like OH NO!! One or the other will open fire on eachother if a robot goes into the Brotherhood gates.... My robots annihilated them fast made short work of them...and I'm allied with them... but it didn't affect me in any way..

It would be great for Bethesda to release a mod that are the 10 player requested settlements that didn't interfere with the trophy aspect. For me a tactile move would be to inhabit Raider camps so they cant get another foot hold. Just seems like common sense. Plus there are some wide spaces between settlements on the supply line where it felt like there should have been a settlement.

Luckily, we have mods for most of that now. XD
The premade beds can also bug you out, always scrap or delete them if you can!
Without mods, the Mech Lair is mostly just good for a central hub for robot supply lines to each settlement.
You left out that at Outpost Z. one of the enemy spawn points moves with the welcome mat spawn point.
There is construction equipment by coastal cottage, for cement bags, they respawn, and a room under the bridge that has scrap too sometimes. Not to mention there is a shop right next to it. Once you get mods to scrap the garbage, it's not that bad.
For me, the worst is possibly Jamaica Plains, next time I will scrap that useless house... The main reason that one is so small is that the lag for that area is bad, but it was the most disappointing because of that the first time, not to mention the low build height, like Hangman's ally. Hangman's Ally is also very disappointing, the low build height, and the fact that the settlers won't use half of the area that is there...
But the one that that upset me the most in vanilla was Croup Manor, all of that water you could not use and dead ghouls and skeletons that would move back after you dragged them out, getting them stuck inside what you built (before we had mods to scrap them), made it torture. It took SO long to drag them out just to have them move back when you left!

Main thing I do not like about settlements is how close the spawn points are for enemies. Most spawn within the border of the build area. The other part is how a settlement gets raided and loses even though I have the defences way up and the settlers VERY well armed and armored.

    • @SonsOfLorgar
      @SonsOfLorgar 7 лет назад +4

Sight Beyond Sight yeah, those mechanics are fucked up. especially as the actual attacker spawns are moved in a direct path closer to the workshop in relation to your travel time without accounting for any settlement structures if you aren't in the settlement already when it's attacked...
So even though you build an almost impenetrable fortress, if you have a long way to get there, the enemies will spawn into the world cell way inside those defences as if they were institute synths teleporting in...

I like to fix the Castle walls and use the electric sliding door, so during the "defend the Castle" quest against the institute, I can relax, have a nuka cola, and watch my turrets and heavy settlers rip some coursers and chrome-domes a new asshole. Not to mention having between 5 and 10 artillery pieces active at Spectacle all at once. I build the Castle and Spectacle island as to support each other. The Castle guards take potshots at anyone of ill-intent trying to swim towards Spectacle island, who has their own turret system, and Spectacle Island has many artillery pieces to rain hell on any ne'er do-well's who try to invade the castle. Not to mention the Castle's own artillery, and all the turrets, including a vast AA system using the turret workshop pack's minigun turrets, plasma spinner turrets and EMP missile turrets.
The main gate also has a single fat man turret perched on a tall scaffold to lay down the law on any insignificant shitter who thinks they can take on a 100% happiness settlement with nearly 300 defense and many, MANY power armor units with big ass guns (gatling lasers and miniguns galore. Also, some missile launchers). The Castle was the pinnacle of minutemen engineering, lost to file corruption due to power outage when I was loading the game. damn electrical storms. oh well, at least I can remember. Jamaica plain goes straight to my number one spot simply because of how disappointing it was just to get that small slice of real estate after clearing the entire town. But besides that I think you're right on the money. I was role playing a world where the Commonwealth settlements become very militarized and create a coalition. Coastal cottage and Murck water are probably the only settlements were I don't have anyone there or even guards. Nor even a supply line. I play with a mod which enables me to clear most of the rubble in game. I like to have empty space, not only for building but also for defense (enemies will have quite a hard time getting through the clearing surrounding your turret tower ... Your list practically corresponds to the list of those which I just conquer and leave empty (just a trading post, some turrets, maybe a robot inhabitant, which is really a provisoner and that's all. Easy defense is one of my main arguments really.
    My shitelist:
    1. Hangman's Alley - buggy, very limited space (but serves as a great provisoner hub)
    2. Jamaica plain - pretty well explained in the video. It makes me extremely nervous all those buildings around, with all the corners enemies could be hiding.
    3. Murky Wastewater or whatever - trees all around for enemies to hide, really UGLY surroundings (in comparison with some astounding views in other locations I really don't have any reason to want to come here); also, it is southeast on the map, so in the area which you generally visit pretty late
    4. Covenant - I don't have a mind of serial killer to like to eradicate all original population. Very limited building space (also height limit is annoyingly low); on the other side it is really beautiful
    5. (without the mod) Tenpines Bluff - the non scrapable shack is in the direction where the enemy spawnpoint is so it is in the way. If I can scrap the shack and build a decent house there it becomes quite nice, with wonderful views and (due to being built on the edge of a slope) quite an easy defendable settlement.
    6. Boston airport - just makes no sense. Makes me mad not being able to build a purifier with water all around. And you loose control if you turn your back on BOS (Yes I did it, stone me, OK? In my defense I can tell you I cried)
    7. Bunker hill - although nice, there are just too many complications having a settlement here. Being among the houses efficient defense is difficult. Annoys me that the obelisk is a great point of height but cannot be put to good use for defense.
    8. Graygarden - just too many robots so it's hard to mantain decent happines rating; otherwise a nice settlement
I like Coastal cottage; I scrap pretty much everything, move the bench, fill the cave with concrete and build quite easily defendable settlement. Near the sea, really beutiful.
The Slog is essential for me, as it is a source of Tarberries - to make detect life potion. I actually like the building - there is enough space for all the settlement to sleep inside, and I usually build additional structures of the settlement on the roof. Regarding nearby enemy posts: I arm my settlers quite well. It's a treat to see when twenty of them storm Saugus or incoming Gunners in full combat armor and armed with max modded plasmas, miniguns and handnmade rifles.
But I really love Finch farm. When you build the stairs (or elevator) up to the highway you take out any enemy vermin with ease from height. Plus, you can play a sniper both on Gunners on the north and mutants on the south. The satelite array mutant suicider is a permanent source of mininukes.
    The settlem

Most of these settlements aren't really that bad to be fair. Coastal is a bad one in the beginning but using assets like scaffolding and pillars it's a rather unique place just like Jamica Plains and Murkwater. Murkwater is awesome for water production and you can make it really feel like a ramshackled early settlement using the junk fences and wood structures and walkways. Coastal and Jamica are the same just require a bit more creativity. Also Jamica has no problems with planting food even outside of using plots. Just plant in the road behind the house and the small area of dirt between the house and parking lot. I had enough food planted in these areas to feed 20 settlers (using just Corn and Carrots) and never used the parking lot area to do so. Only noobs need giant build spaces to make a good settlement. :p

it can be tricky to build a working settlement there i give you that, but it is a useful location, with it being in the middle of the city, and if you are clever enough you can build it in a way that allows you to get on the surrounding rooftops, which will greately improove your mobillity, especially if you have a jet pack.
also remember to build your artilery pieces on top of concrete towers there so the guys there don't just keep shelling the wall next to them.

I'm glad that some of the problems that you mentioned have been taken care of! I have made settlements in all of the places you've talked about and I enjoy the challenge of small, odd spaces! I'm not especially fond of large areas because they can become unwieldy when building and keeping track of! With Spectacle Island I blocked off half the island with concrete walls and only built on one side!
With my third or forth playthrough, I used console commands to scrap everything and the "clean and smooth" mods on some of the places. That was fun to see how different these were to work with! Great vid! Thankyou!

I never really thought the slog was all that bad and you can actually build stuff on the side of the main building.
Most of these settlements though are ones where when I play they end up getting a bunch of turrets, an artillery piece and a robot to operate the artillery and I don't try to build them up to populated places.

Tenpines Bluff is awesome. If you build your structures along the perimeter with your farm as the center piece there's plenty of room for whatever you need and the buildings act as a defensive wall. I love the little stone walls. I wish they were an item you could build. I might make that a mod.
Jamaica Plain is cool too, except the build limit sucks. There is plenty of places to plant crops for 30+ settlers. Mirelurk Construction is ok. The two buildings suck, but there's plenty of places for water purifiers.
I don't know why you keep talking about limited supplies. Why anyone would bother with settlements and not have provisioners is beyond me.
Hangman's Alley, Croupe Manor, and Home Run should be on this list. Also, Kingsport Lighthouse isn't that great due to low build area.

So here's what u did with all of these settlements... having the "scrap anything help a lot with this: I turned tenplines bluff into a death trap for settlers I didn't like to fight deathclaws.. outpost zimonja I turned into my own personal little hideaway for me and my lover companion.. the slog turned out to be a place where I sent most of my ghoul companions that didn't fit in, I also built onto the roof of the building.. Boston airport has a synth clone of my pre-war spouse along with a protectron, I used a mod that gave me large stone structures to build and is still a work in progress.. the mechanists lair is a place I am currently keeping a bunch of mr handys I constructed that I will be using for supply lines.. Jamaica plain ended up having broken build area and I only had half of the inaccessible house and parking area, yet I have a couple living there as it being a fully functional player home.. mirelurk construction site ended up being one of my main settlements, using wooden hallway ends and scaffolding to make mini apartments.. costal cottage ended up being my largest and main settlement, Using the mod "Homemaker" and "scrap anything," I scrapped the destroyed house and built a large building atop the hole with a main front room with vendors, a side room with generators, and a back room bar with a kitchen behind it, and an upstairs being the bedrooms.. the mod called "northland diggers" gave me a lot of things to assign my settlers, and accumulating more resources. I also use a place in red mod to allow me to place anywhere

  • @granziii12
    @granziii12 5 лет назад

With Outpost Zimonja, I do what a call "Trumping" my settlements. I start by building a wall around my settlements. Give it a door and leave one area exposed. The way I have mine set up, I put a wooden structure in the open gap and filled one side in with a concrete floor and kept stacking it. The other side has a large guard outpost with enough walking room for a Brahmin, but has 2 spotlights beaming their light in the eyes of anyone coming from that direction (not sure if it works that way)
In order to keep the walls level I use the concrete floors in the wooden section just so I can put wooden walls on top of them and then delete some of the unneeded concrete while keeping the walls in the same place they were. After that I just built onto the preexisting structures and added a roof/floor where I built a large metal structure and stacked a large wooden structure on top of it wit a couple ladders leading to it.
Then add some turrets, water pumps, some crops, establish some supply lines to Tenpines, Starlight, Red Rocket, Abernathy and Sanctuary and arm all your settlers with some good armor and guns and no more than 5 settlers with miniguns and you got a typical settlement for me.
Funny thing is, Outpost Zimonja's a quick one I did cuz I didn't like it either.

Kill the settlers, scrap the turrets on a shack floor piece, along with everything "Owned". I was able to do some neat stuff with Hangman's Alley. It took some time and patience but I ended up making a 3-4 story shanty-town esque settlement. Its a bit tough trying to make room for food but I was able to grow some crops in one of the dirt patches, albeit a bit glitchy. However, it is a really small area with very little freedom to build so I can see why people might not like it.

For Tenpines Bluff I now build a two story 3 x 4 building between the broken building and the garden stone wall. I can easily house 20 settlers in it, and I put an artillery piece on the roof. For the Slog, build between the building and the fence on the north side of the building. I generally place a 3x4 barracks at all my settlements. The only places I can't do that are Hangman's Ally,, Jamaica Plain, and Croup Manor. At Murkwater, build on stilts.

The Slog is one of my favorite places to build because I build on the roof and arm that place to the teeth which makes taking on the Ironworks exterior easy since I lure them to the Slog. And I use the airport as my own personal home since it sucks for settlers.

i personally think that outpost zimonja is one of the better places to build for complex builders or intermediate builders like myself when playing fallout 4. the reason why i think so in my opinion was i tested out a theory at one point where i just make a randomly generated new game with random loot spawn tables (so just a new game) and then 1 by 1, owned as many workshops i could. what i would do once owning the settlement/area, was scrap absolutely everything to the last object so the bar was empty (sometimes taking hours to find the remaining objects) and then only use what i scrapped to make anything i wanted out of what i had gained from the scraps to build my own settlement accustomed to the area.
outpost zimonja was one of the better and most convienient places for me as once a settlement beacon was set up at one of the workshops that had the ability to build it, not only would i begin getting people to work at outpost zimonja but giving a settler a fatman with power armour, then placing a spotlight and turret to fact down at the raiders just south of it proved to be cool and realistic in a way. an enemy that could attack at any one given time, a searchlight that helped the turret feel more realistic as well as aiding other settlers to see the enemy better having the small area turned into a mini community just felt so nice just to know i could push the boundries of realism onto a game that doesnt really have that. i would even go as far as if i could loot something or lured something i had killed into the workshop area and killed it, i can then take that loot and use it only at that place. so if i found i gun and could make a gun station (cant remember its name), then i would modify the guns and give it to the settlers or take theres to modify then give it back. give them ammo and all that. only thing i werent to sure weather to do was exploit their inventories everytime it refreshed as it was free items. i think i left it out in the end.
the other place i loved building at was red rocket due to the garage door really. having an attack take place and i just open a garage door to a firing line of turrets and a person on a post, closing the red rocket doors and having that square area was just easy to build.
finally 1 from fallout 76 was the food processing plant. i spent god amounts of hours just building there using the area where the hooks were left of the conveyor belts, in the corner, as a small bar area, blocking off and locking and also making every door i could inacsessable to players unless they chose to break it or get a bounty on them, the free non radiated food was lovely a clean bed to get the well rested perk helped in handy, more than enough room on the roof and inside the farm silo's and main building to put down workshop equipment and the access to the free junk piles u can use outside was just near perfect.
2 honorable mentions for 76 though is the red rocket top right of the map and finally the race track. both medium to big areas with both inside and outside building accessability which i was a fan of, u could hide wires and stuff just by putting them ontop the surrounding fence which wasnt an eyesore and on the stand wall if it decided not to work properly having all types of decent variations of junk and lighting up the area on the race track and having the middle of it as a way to just farm or have a lil outside building fort of some sort or even main area was nice. even though it was hard in my opinion to build stuff inside the main building, i did prefer the fact i could hide the connectors on the roof and make it so it goes around the cieling and throught the door contiuing to the wall before reaching down behind the far wall of the main building which aided in lighting the area using the pole fences.

I honestly love building at Zimonja, Jamaica Plain, Murkwater and Coastal Cottage because of the challenge to tinker your way around obstacles and ruins. For the same reason I can get lost in building up Hangman's Alley, Croup Manor and Echo Lake😅

Not clearing away any debris or trash in the settlement without mods! Or not repairing/ scraping buildings.

Genuinely I think Sanctuary is a really bad settlement, it's a pretty large area with a lot of things to scrap for supplies, but it's found too early on for anyone to make use of it, so unless you go back and specifically want to build it up (good luck as most of the houses are unscrappable and even if you can, you can't build that looks like the unscrappable houses) most peoples's sanctuaries look the same, with the same annoying NPCs that we all avoid for the far more interesting factions and their settlements.

Drumlin's Dinner and Starlight Drive In. Here is the reason why 1. Raiders operate out of Covaga Assembly Plant and Olivia Outpost and they can respawn. 2. Both settlements are next to the National Guard Depot which is Gunners HQ so the first wave will be Raiders from Covaga after you clean it out the second wave will be Gunners. and 3 both settlements are close to places where dangerous Wasteland trash spawn close to the settlement you have to deal with Ghouls, Muties, Robots, and dangerous critters. There is a Guai Den by Jarbert Brothers Disposal and they always head towards Starlight if you do Getting a Clue or On the Trail. Mole Rats and Mirelurks live nearby and since the settlement is close to Concord there is a Deathclaw den nearby so watch out for them.

Even with the Cheat terminal free mod, Some of these places are hard to build a bass of operations onto. Had to use a tone of Barn structure materials to make any uneven settlement worth Deffendable.
