- Miss World 1974, the 24th edition of the Miss World pageant,[3] was held on 22 November 1974 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom.
Anneline Kriel of South Africa was crowned the new Miss World after Morgan's resignation.

Helen Morgan revealed she was a single mum to her son just days after winning Miss UK in September 1974. Eric and Julia Morley were happy for her to continue and for her to compete in Miss World. However, when she won that title too, a woman sold a story to the press saying she would be citing Helen in her divorce case as the 'other woman'. The resultant press attention was too much for Helen and she resigned, handing the crown to Anneline.
However, Helen was allowed to retain her Miss UK title. She married businessman Ronny Lamb in 1979 and they live in London.

I'm surprised she was disqualified from the Miss Universe 1st Runner- up the award for being a single mom. the 2nd Runner-up should have been 1st runner up 3rd Runner-up as 2nd Runner-up etc.
contrary to belief, Helen Elizabeth Morgan voluntarily resigned four days after her reign. SHE NEVER HIDE THE FACT THAT SHE HAS A BABY. in fact organizers in miss UK, miss universe and miss World KNEW she is a single mom. back before single moms are ALLOWED to join mw and mu as long as they were never married. the controversy only rose up when the wife of the man whom Helen had an affair made media scandal after she won, thats why she was advised to resign to avoid further conflict. the following year miss universe and miss world changed the rules that contestants must be childless as well (note Helen Morgan got her full prize of 3,000 lbs that year even if she reigned only 4 days)

Miss Africa South and Miss South Africa were from the same country one represented Blacks the other represented White. What if both girls won its was such an unfair competition one country taking two spots.Nice to watch though😀

It is so nice to have seen Anneline and Miss Africa South, 40 years later, on a reunion / interview , so different from what is shown in the 1970 that both Miss Africa South and Miss South Africa posed for photos but did not talk to each other .

I think Miss World proved to be very much inclusive over the years, Miss World always had finalists of all races.

Beauty is in the eye of beholder. I don’t find Miss Jamaica all that beautiful. She is just okay to me. On the other hand, I find Miss Africa South is much more attractive. Both ladies made it to the Top 15, so I don’t think you can say that they were overlooked. If the judges were racist, they wouldn’t be selected as semi-finalists at all.
I wonder what happened to punters who backed Anneline to win, if they retained their betting tickets till after Helen resigned.
As far as I know Marjorie Wallas sorry for spelling her surname wrong was Miss World 1974 but resigned and our own Miss Angeline Kriel took over the crown correct me

I think both Anneline and Helen are the two most beautiful Miss Worlds ever, not only beauty but so much personality, also Miss Australia and Miss Israel and Japan had both so much charisma! it was a very difficult choice that year, It would be nice to see both Helen and Anneline comeback at a Miss World pageant as in 2011 Antigone and Denise had a special time and mention.

@@duanegunn611 I was 6 years old, and remember the MU on tv that year, and the news about Miss World, in the 70s, most people made so much comments the next day after these pageants transmissions.
@@oscarzermeno3871 that means you were born in 1968? lol, I have to 1980 Miss World pageant on tape I got from my friend in Vancouver BC Germany was also stepped down in 1980 because her bf didn't approve. But it turned out that she pulled A Venessa Williams in 1984 ( miss America did a poise in a nude magazine)

@@duanegunn611 , yes,... too old I know, I when I was a kid and a teenager , the beauty pageants were extremely popular !!! and I remember each one I watched on tv.... year by year, it was very enjoyable , they were really glamorous.
