I made an axle housing spreader for when I did my ARB locker set up in mine along with new 4.56 gears!! The axel spreader I made definitely worked really nicely for installing the carrier and taking it out!! I made the spreader out of 1/2” steel plates and tubes on both ends of the plate’s and used some 1” all thread with some bearings on each end along with some washers on both sides of the bearings!!! I was able to do the hole install my self!! And for not being a bigger guy also it definitely helped to wear I didn’t drop anything and end up ruining anything!!! I’m only 4’11” tall and a weight of 105!! I have 8 different Dana60s and have went threw a couple of them already and redone them!! You should definitely make a case spreader or buy one but they are definitely not cheap!! I absolutely love the Dana60s for sure!! I have one in a 1969 Chevy 1Ton 4x4 with 13” lift a 421 sbc that I just built and had gotten it all dialed in on a dyno stand!! It came just shy of 700HP!! I’m also running a sm465 manual tranny with a 32 splines out put shaft and a doubler setup that I went threw and put all new parts in!! The rear axle also was fitted with 4.56 gears and the good old ARB air locker!! Definitely an awesome setup for sure!! Now all I have to do is some body work and new paint and she will be done!! Definitely a long time build though!! I’ve had this truck since 1995 when I was in high school!! The other truck that I have a Dana60 in is a 1981 GMC 1Ton 4x4 pickup that also runs the sm465 manual tranny also!! 4.10 gears and I just went threw the rear end and rebuilt it and put a Detroit locker in it!! I haven’t decided what I’m going to do for a locker for the front yet?? Probably will go with the ARB air locker!! I’ve just had awesome luck with the ARB air lockers!! I’ve never had one leak on me or fail!! Easy to turn on and off!!! Definitely run all Yukon stuff though!! I just wish that they would sponsor me after all the parts that I have baught from them!! Lol!! Also have a 1980 Chevy 1Ton 4x4 with the Dana60 in it with a Sm465 manual tranny also!! This one is a tow truck setup!! Absolutely love this setup!! Also have a 1984 Chevy 1Ton 4x4 with a service box on it that I use for scraping stuff out or to do on the road fixes!!! Plus I have several others and a couple that are not in trucks also!!!

Those Allen bolts will back out of the carrier halves and get into your ring gear… ask me how I know!

I just bought a set of 5.88 gears and I think I need the 4.10 and up carrarer next? I have a power lock dana 70 but it has 3.56 gears so I don't think I can use that but maybe trade it or sell it for the one I need. Are the Power lock carriers good for larger tires?

Do the pinion nuts fail after a certain amounts of times re torqued? On my third pinion bearing adjustment I torqued pinion nut and my preload was nothing.

Did the nut torque to spec? If so you have to much shim

Yeah I torqued to 250 ftpnds and the the first reading I got was 17 inch pounds or rotational force. So I removed some shims and torqued to 250 again and got 32 inch pounds. On my third attempt to dial in that number I got zero. I lost all my preload after I torqued

Why did you decide to go with a Yukon grizzly locker?

    • @trailtrash9717

I didn’t want to run a spool in the front, and the selectable lockers seem to be very problematic. The grizzly has worked great for me and I’d buy it again
