I’m From Scotland and recognise the St George for what it is. A Christian flag adopted by England to represent the nations heritage and values. Same with St Andrews flag. Who’s Christian bones landed on Scotlands shores. Where there were also pagan histories which is also a factor of wales.

Most that complain about the flag are English immigrants, you would think they would love the country that has given them a home. In every other country I have lived in they flew their flag with pride and it was celebrated.

My point is that anyone who takes pride in their country displays "national pride", there are many forms of nationalism, not all are negative, some are necessary to maintain a countries integrity.

That isn't the definition of Nationalism. Nationalism is about the recognition of the nation state, its Institutions and rule of Law. That these conditions differ in other nation states is an obvious truism. Not all cultures are identical. Patriotism goes deeper than just paying taxes. I don't think that many people would be willing to die for their country so they can pay taxes.

Sunder Katwala may have been born in the British isles, no doubt has an official British passport and would therefore officially be classed as a 'British Asian', but clearly isn't ethnically English, doesn't have an 'English' name nor any authentic background whatsoever in the English nation, its history or culture. So what right does does this person think he has to proclaim on anything to do with the English people, their flag or their the Patron saint? The man is a preposterous impostor who should have had the decency to realise that he has no business pontificating on matters relating to a situation where he simply doesn't belong and should have stood aside to let someone better qualified pronounce on the subject.

Dartford in Kent put on a brilliant display. Huge numbers participated. Local schools took part as well. Wonderful costumes. People of all ethnicities joining in. Lots of flags everywhere. Just fun and no trouble.
