Hey Zee. I was just reading the rules and when you're attacking, if you get a high enough value between you die and card you can score more than one hit. Seems like am import but small bit.
Two weakest parts of Abyss was the monster (which before wasn't really a monster, just a treasure that grows in time you cash out at any time), and the territories, which felt kind of tacked on. I wish there was an expansion that addressed the weak territories.
So zee... Seems like you might be starting to take some of Tom's hats. Any chance you'd know if/when this expansion will be available in the states for those of us who can't make it to essen or find a copy online?
Is this available anywhere yet? Really love Abyss and the Kraken expansion, and this looks to add more life and variance to the game. Great review Zee!
The premise of this expansion is great and I have been waiting to see how it was implemented. This video has brought my enthusiasm down for this expansion. Leviathan seems to add a bit of complexity to a very streamlined game which may trip up my less experienced wife and friends who enjoy the game. One thing I do not remember hearing from this review was if it worked well with the Abyss expansion.
He did not talk about playing both expansions together but he did make a point of expressing it did not feel like a fiddly complex add on, instead, it adds a focused upgrade to an existing game element. I play Abyss with my senior in-laws and I think they will be able to enjoy Leviathan.
Exactly. And knowing what Kraken adds, you would know that it has nothing to do with the combat aspect of the game. Therefore there's no reason why this expansion wouldn't integrate well, since it enhances a totally different aspect of the game. Combined with the fact that Zee explicitly states that Abyss is not fiddly or complex, your concerns are moot.
Wow. My concerns are moot? What I saw from during the rules explanation seemed, to me, to add a few things that may make it difficult to use with my casual gaming friends. Do you believe that since you think Zee "Voice of the People" Garcia 'explicitly states' that it is not 'fiddly or complex', I should not respond with anything that may reflect negatively towards the subject of which he is speaking? lol It is not uncommon for a reviewer to comment on how an expansion works with another. Although Leviathan may focus on a different aspect it does not mean that it plays well combined with Kraken. The reasons for this can be but not limited to adding game length and overall complexity. I cannot remember any part of the video that Zee stated he played Leviathan with Kraken. Myself and others watch review videos to get information on a product before buying. It is ridiculous not to understand this but perhaps you are one of those zealots who will buy and play every expansion. sight unseen.
It is playable with 2, but really shines at 3+. The exploration where people can buy the allies before the active player is more interesting with 3+, and there are a lot more pearls changing hands. Also, it is much easier as the non active player to pass on a card you want, and just grab it from the council the next round, where in a bigger game other players are likely to grab that first if you are not next in turn order. The first expansion I think benefits even MORE from 3+ players as the corrupt pearl mechanic really benefits more from more pearls changing hands again. This expansion looks pretty player count agnostic. I think this expansion would play pretty similarly at all player counts.
1st time my friend & I played Abyss, we both thought there should've been more to the "fighting" aspect of the game, like a die roll, despite the fact that it was a Euro game. Glad to see this has been implemented.
2 years late, but better late than never right? You do not need Kraken to play Leviathan. The general consensus is even that Leviathan is a mandatory requirement to fix some of the threat track problems in the base game - that it has no risk. If you had to choose between either one then my money is on getting Leviathan first and later Kraken.
Man, even with these expansions the game still looks boring. Where is the strategy? I think I'll just stick to Biblios. That's the right amount of game for push your luck.
I didn’t really get it either…. Until I played a few days ago. WOW! I’m so mad that it took me so long to try this one. Just try it, you will then see where the appeal is! And I only played the base game!

Pretty sure the lords in the first expansion are marked with a "K." It might have been a subsequent printing that fixed it.
They were not marked in any way in the fist U.S. printing. We took a silver paint pen and put our own K on all of them because of that.
Yeah, I must have a subsequent printing.
This looks great, Zee! Do you know when it will be released in the US?
Yes, if anyone knows the U.S. release date that would be GREAT. Tempted to buy a U.K. one and import it at this rate.
Hope the expansion is available before the end of the year.
Alice Moore I recieved it last week, so it is allready out
Joel Petersen 😃
Was the 5th player not included in the first printing of this?

Knowing Bruno and chevalier I bet you the third expansion will fix the locations and add something more to it.

It's almost like you didn't watch the video at all
Do you have a time stamp where Zee mentions incorporating Leviathan with Kraken?

How does this game work with two players (with and without expansions)? Anyone?

I think it's better at 3 but it's not at all bad at 2. We play it 2 player all the time
I guess I'll try to play it before I get it. Thank you very much for your insight!
Thanks guys, I really appreciate your impressions. You rock!
I really lik3 this expansion. It’s not complex at all. Easy to learn it from the get go.

@@hendrickstrauss3311 absolutely! And if you go for just One expansion: leviathan no question!
Thanks for the reply buddy.
Dive in... I see what you did there....
Wait Zee, since when Abyss is your favourite game?
@bushibayushi He said "a favorite" as in "one of his favorites". We all know Pandemic is still his favorite.
out of stock everywhere :/

@@justinrrizzo what’s your verdict?
@@juliebggeek6545 I didn't like it. My comment was after I read the rulebooks for the expansions after having played the core game ;)
@@justinrrizzo ohhhhhhhh! Gotcha!
