I have just known you when i was searching about Xenoshyft. Really great vid. Your vid quality is really good and your voice is so easy to understand. Keep going :).
I understand not passing on the monster reward, however this is still a race game. The player who gets that 7th lord finishes up so passing on 3-4 points to get the card you need to stay in the race is good strategy, also you have to keep in mind that other players are rushing for the same lords so again getting that monster card might cost you 3-4 turns of building up to get a lord you want, if somebody gets it before you do.
Awesome review! I like your way of presenting the game. The structure of this video, your speech and gestures and your camera work made this a nice experience for me. I can see that you are taking this very seriously and I think that you are doing a great job. Here's some minor critique: I don't like the text in your videos. It distracts me from your talk. If you want to sum a chapter up, use keywords. That way it'll be easier to follow. Second, you should use a different font and a dark colour. I know that white text looks cool, but studies have shown that the best text to read is black on white with a nice clean font, with small and capital letters. These are very minor concerns, keep up the good work and I hope to see you a lot!
Interesting, you are the first person to mention the text as anything but a big plus. The main reason for it is to have a quick idea of what i'll be talking about for 1-2 minutes so that you can decide if you want to keep watching that section. I've thought about pulling the text out after 20 seconds and putting in photos that might help with my point, but that is a huge increase in labor for each video that I don't think I quite have time for yet. Ultimately I was sick of watching other peoples videos that just had them talking at the camera, so I wanted to give the viewer something else to see. Regarding the color of the text, you nailed it on the head I suppose. The white text does feel nicer, but perhaps isn't quite as easy to read. I really appreciate the feedback by the way, I keep trying new things to see how they stick :)
Hannes Schwarz You can pause the video, read, and then keep listening. That´s and advantage that internet streaming has over "classical" TV format (or any media format where you cannot pause the stream of information)
I like all your links to jump from point to point. Thanks for the extra effort! I might consider this game. I felt lukewarm about it, which is ironic, with the abyss being so cold...
You are the first person to mention the jump links, i'm glad you like them. The idea occured to me last november when I was doing my BGGcon videos and now that i've done it a couple times it is only about 20 minutes extra work per video which I think is well worth it. I wish other people did it too when i'm watching their videos :P
I would buy if it was priced at a lightweight game price range/press your luck range...$20-$25. But this game has been out 3-4 yrs and they still want $45 plus... a price of a medium to heavy boardgame. Is it because of the components? Art work?
Just found your channel and I really enjoy your format. I have not checked the BGG, but did you try this game without the monster track? What did you find?
@@Fbacurau I remember enjoying much of it and being annoyed at other parts as I talk about in this review. I cant really say more since its been years.
I must agree, I LOVE this game! What a dummy I am. All the time I have been playing we always leave the seamonster on the track after avoiding it. We should have been taking it off. Dah! Thanks for showing me that. I bought this game right after in came out. You did a fantastic job of explaining the game. I am going to start watching your other video's.
Glad you liked it :) Good to know others are loving this game as well. Did the Monster board feel broken to you since you were playing incorrectly, or did it just feel like it escalated well as the game went on?
I tend to agree with you. Every time we play it no one ever lets it get high enough to get a key. So why bother to use it. Just go for Lords that gets you keys. There must be a new way to let people get keys so they can get lands so they use less Lords to get extra points from the lands. If that makes sense? We usually only have 2 lands or less in play for each player due to 7 Lords coming out because no one gets keys from the monster track. I hope the designers come out with a update of some sorts to help that.
I thought about that as well but then i'd worry it would swing back the other way and the starting player could draw no good cards and not get paid anything by opponents and have no buying power whatsoever.

I just bought this and I like your house rule. Great video

I love the text. I also love how you can skip to "next big point" at top right.
I like all your links to jump from point to point.

It's likely simply due to supply and demand. Perhaps there aren't that many copies out there now, and the sellers know they can get that much for it.
Great job!!!,. love your reviews!

Pedro Mendoza Even thought I mentioned wanting to try it, I still haven't unfortunately :(
great review jon
Which house rule you prefer? 1,2,3,4 or 1,1,2,3
Honestly I haven't played this in years and I can no longer remember the details enough to answer you unfortunately.
@@GettingGames tks anyway. Do you still recommend it?

I wonder if either of the two expansions fix this problem?
Did you play it with Abyss: Leviathan? And did it resolve the problem with the monster track?
Unfortunately I've never had an opportunity to play with that expansion, so I can't comment on whether or not it helps that problem.
Maybe even house rule that the first player starts with 0 pearls and then 1, 2 and 3?
I thought about that as well but then i'd worry it would swing back the other way and the starting player could draw no good cards and not get paid anything by opponents and have no buying power whatsoever.
I have two of crabs
I like Abyss....with the Kraken expansion!
I never did try it with the expansion, glad to hear you enjoyed it.
