@@pjaw8226 I actually traded abyss after playing this one. It scratches the same itch, plays much faster, and takes way less space. The only thing I miss is all the rest of that beautiful art work.
I don't know how long you've been doing it, but I love the 'bottom line' addition at the end, Zee. Sometimes it's hard to know exactly how much you like a game from just the TARGET system. I usually see your scores on Week in Review, but this makes me not have to wait.
Thanks Zee. I was waiting for this. The original Abyss is my favortie game. And I really Love small card games. Thought was a no brainer for me. The only thing is missed is the "personality" of each type of creature but I think the theme of making some kind of congress works really well. Alread order it!
Hi Zee. Thanks for the review. I got to play it in Essen (btw, thanks for the selfie with us :)) and liked it a lot. Pity it wasn't available for purchase...
Abyss is one of our favorite games of all time, this looks really good if we don't have time for the full game. Not sure how much play it will get because if we DO have time, we will most likely just play the main game. I could see this also maybe coming out if we have VERY new to boardgame players. Although I have taught abyss with no problems to brand new players. Abyss is a little hard to teach with words, but pretty easy for people to understand once playing.
Nice review Zee! I was wondering is there any chance to do a comparison video between Conspiracy and Abyss ( original version)? Would love to hear your thoughts on what does each game bring to the table. Thanks
I think I saw an interview where they explain it's supposed to be some sort of political chamber in the world of abyss and that's why you want to group of the same color representing parties.
I think you got one of the rules wrong. On Board Game Arena, they only give 3 points per lord in a matched color group. You also did not mention that when recruiting a lord from the discard piles, you recruit all the lords of a color group at once if possible. I know you're not giving us all the rules but getting stuff wrong or making it seem like a process works differently than it actually works creates unnecessary confusion.
Ah, they did it at the bottom of the screen during the table review. I much prefer it all being on the once screen. Didn't even see it because I was focused on what he was saying and looking at the components
As someone who got rid of Abyss, Dan nailed it above. This is better. Fun parts of Abyss distilled into 1/4 the time. I wish they had glitzed it up some and put it in a Splendor-like mid-size package, but hey, my wallet doesn't wish that.
I would agree with Derek. I traded Abyss with expansions after I realized I was no longer playing it having this available. While it's true that the original has a good amount more meat (with expansions), conspiracy simply scratches the same itch in way less time, way less space, and way less investment. It also helps that conspiracy is a great deal more accessible. I can pull this out with new gamers and have a good time with it. Abyss needed a core group of people who were all on board with learning everything and wanting to play multiple times. If you have that, awesome. You can enjoy abyss and its a great game. But why would you when you can play a game of this in 20 minutes and have so much time left to play more games!
@@grog3514 Quality over quantity! That said, I will pick this game up for those times when there simply isn't enough time to play another fully featured game
@@KBWrecker oh trust me, there is no sacrifice of quality here. Everything is great quality and I think it's even more fun than the original. It just isn't as deep (pun intended) mechanically. It's like the difference between fury of dracula and Whitehall mystery. Both great games, but one will just get played more because it's more accessible.
I want a Story based game set in the Abyss universe. Like a King's dilemma but talking about setting the the ocean at peace... legacy style where game 1 you are worrying about the Monsters that keep coming into the Abyss and by game 5 you are contemplating going to the surface.
I agree Zee! This feels like 90% of Abyss in about a quarter of the time! I actually liked this better than the original!

Abyss has a lot more mechanics and strategy. Conspiracy is like Abyss Lite which is fine if that is all you have time for.

What I really want is a large scale war, area-control game set in the abyss universe.
Have you seen Aquaman? I swear the underwater battle was exactly how I would expect an Abyss battle to look.
This is for sure what I want as well

Only 8?!?! Oooo it’s close to a ten so far for me.
Finally showed up in the mail today after preorder and delays! Thanks a lot Corona!

*snicker* Just had an image of the Star Wars Galactic Council theme pasted into this game.

Cool dice Tower animations/transition. Looks more professional
Did I miss the player count? I never saw the normal screen that listed designer and artist and play count etc...

I love Abyss, and while I don't think this will replace it for me, I think this could be one even non gamers in the family would play and enjoy!
This is going on my wish list.
I am asking the tough question:
For someone who does not own Abyss; should still purchase regular Abyss or this is an better alternative? Why?
