This is like pitting a guy in a gorilla costume against an actual gorilla.
The Gundam is still _somewhat_ constrained by logic. Optimus actively ignored it.

That is one of the things that splits them. One of them is from the Super Mecha genre and the other one was the very thing that lead the way to the creation of the Realistic Mecha genre. Death Battles between these two genres don't turn out well for Realistic Mecha when they go up against Super Mecha.
There's still an issue of delay. While Optimus as a living machine reacts the way we pur bodies do, the Gundam is piloted. So the pilot has to see what's coming, translate that into using the controls, then the Gundam has to react to commands. Sure with intensive training and experience that delay in reaction would be very minimal, it's still there and can mean the difference between a glancing blow or a lethal one.
Pretty sure if Amuro had the Nu Gundam in this fight Optimus would have been smoked based purely on the fact the Nu Gundam reacts to thoughts @@RequiemPoete

Well i mean think about it. Gundams and their pilots are used to Ground and Space fighting, having to switch mid fight sometimes. Optimus and most land vehicle Transformers aren't accustomed to not only air to ground fighting, but space to ground.
Just gonna point out by Gundam's own lore it shouldn't have survived reentry without it's shield.

@@TeamTowers1 The first time it does atmospheric re-entry it used a cover stored in it's crotch to defeat the heat, not the shield. So it would be fine there. No clue how Amuro survived the impact on hitting the ground though.

The gundam was an impressive machine and Amuro was a skilled pilot, but Optimus’s MILLIONS of years of combat experience completely overshadowed Amuro’s 14. Also we already know that Optimus was over six times faster and nine thousand times stronger.
Holy hell! Who knew Optimus was so freakin' buff?! But the Gundam held plenty of its own advantages. With Amuro's super future-sense powers, he could keep up with Optimus' speed. And with the Gundam's firepower, who cares how much it could lift?

Upon rewatching this battle, I appreciate the attention to detail in exactly where both are trying to attack on the other's body. Optimus attacks the Gundam as if it's just a tall Cybertronian. He punches for the face and the side of the torso, because that's where a Cybertronian's vital "organs" are located. Optimus assumes he's fighting another living being. Amuro always aims for the chest of Optimus. Amuro attacks Optimus as if he's just a shorter than average Mobile Suit. The chest of almost all Mobile Suits, from the Zaku to the Gundams, all have their cockpit in the chest or just below where the sternum. Amuro assumes he's fighting a vehicle with a human pilot inside.

This feels strange because while Prime and RX 78 2 are both the most iconic of their stories, Prime is probably one of the most powerful transformers where as the RX 78 2 would be bodied by most other Gundams (like Unicorn/Banshee/Phenex, 00/Qan T, V2, Turn A, Xi, Strike Freedom, and probably Barbatos Lupus Rex).
Yeah, i think that with many others it would end differently.
Like Wing Zero's Twin Buster Rifle for example
The difference being that the Gundam didn't survive its own series while Optimus needed a movie (with attached editorial mandate) to bite the dust (and he got better).

Starscream vs Macross would be pretty sick, make it a squadron battle with thundercracker and skywarp by his side versus the skull squadron.

Nah with proper modern scalling and research, Optimus stomps even harder.
Dude, watching this as a kid was amazing. AND! I realized something! Some of the moves, such as the upwards sledgehammer late in the ship fight, and Optimus dragging the Gundam across the dirt, are things you can do in Transformers Devastation! The sledgehammer comes from finally beating Megatron, as a callback to the G1 movie's intro, and the dirt-run move is something Blitzwing can do, and Grimlock has as his bot-mode ability!
Not to mention grinding the opponent's face with his leg wheels, which he did to great effect in Transformers Prime against Megatron
Optimus Prime had to show the home invading ruffian Amuro Ray that he owns an ion blaster, energon axe, energon sword, and Matrix of Leadership for home defense, as the founding fathers intended.

One of the most epic fights on Death Battle. I'd hope they make another Transformers related battle, mostly Eren Yaeger vs. Bayverse Optimus Prime. One of my favorite matchups.

Honestly God Gundam would have been a fairer fight. The Matrix of Leadership defeated Unicron, God Gundam defeated the Devil Gundam combined after it absorbed the Neo Japan space colony.
I thought Turn A would be a fairer fight because of its Moonlight Butterfly system.

@@mattwo7the thing is, it wouldnt be slow. The nanomachines as soon as theyre active they'll eat optimus alive in mere instants. Theres even an official animation showing how did the turn A reset the gundam franchise.

imo They might fight for a while before Amuro and Optimus talk things out. Knowing Optimus tho, he would probably start things by trying to talk, Amuro would respond and the situation might deescalate before any fight happens at all.

Just goes to show, you mess with his friends, and Optimus Prime will forgo any and all mercy.
For anyone who didn't recognize it, The Ship they started the fight on was The Ark, the very same ship that carried the Autobots to Earth in the first place, so when Amuro blew up The Ark, he also killed all of the Autobots still onboard.
Side note, Transformers Earth Wars recently established that both The Ark and The Nemesis (the Decepticon's Ship) are both Dormant Titans (like Metroplex), so Amuro's Cybertronian body count is 1 more than we thought when this episode first came out.

It's a shame because transformers has so many incredible matchups: Shockwave vs Braniac, War Machine vs Ironhide, Juggernaut vs Overlord, Depthcharge vs Black Manta, Starscream vs Gigan, X vs Primal, Dinobot 2 vs Masked Man, Tigerhawk vs Hudiemon, Optimus vs Superman, and Beast vs Rhinox. Just a shame they lose so many of them.
I like how if this was a composite or idw optimus prime, the fight wouldn't even last a second.

@@ThePsych123 Maybe, but both Captain America and Deathstroke are both super soldiers with history of being enlisted in the military under some sort of false pretense. The former had multiple health problems and frequently lied on various forms to get in the military, while the latter was too young to be enlisted. Both were chosen to be part of a program that would result in them being experienced and enhanced to become super soldiers. Both possess some of the most advanced forms of hand-to-hand combat. Both wield some sort of weapon and/or armor that's made out of a material that harder and lighter than a real life substance. And both were in some sort of romantic relationship with a woman who was also part of the same division that the respect super soldier was involved with.

Optimus can beat ANY Gundam pilot, gundam pilots are still humans their piloting reaction times would still never be as fast as Prime's. They couldn't even have a strategy to counter him due to his superior strategic experience from millions of years of battles.
Not entirely the case. Unicorn Gundam Unit 3 Phenix is essentially piloted by Rita's soul. Because of this it can reach speeds approaching the speed of light, create shockwaves of psychic energy that can dismantle machines, manipulate matter and energy, etc. Wing Zero and Epyon both have the Zero System installed. This feeds tactical data directly into the pilot's brain and allows them to see multiple outcomes in battle. An even better case is Setsuna from Gundam 00. Being a pure-type Innovator, he can use GN particles in ways no other pilot can. This includes expanding his consciousness throughout the battlefield, quantizing (phasing out of normal reality) etc. On top of that with 00 Quanta, he was able to successfully make contact with alien life forms and essentially became an alien human hybrid. Not factoring in the pilot, Turn A Gundam would most likely beat Optimus Prime. It is powered by an artificial black hole, has nano regenerative armor, can teleport and most importantly, it has the Moonlight Butterfly system which can deconstruct and reconfigure matter.

Honestly my favorite deathbattle simply due to the franchises and also one of the greatest deathbattles to be animated at the time. This deathbattle was evolutionary as it eas a steo up from what they used to make.

Awesome battle, The Rx always seems to be in the fight. It would of been more interesting to have a diffrent mobile suit to engage in the battle with prime. Keep up the super work 😎👍
Amuro was technically mistaken for those Transformers (or Cybertronians, including Unicron) being a Mobile Suit mech, he's not aware about those things are sentient robot alien. In the game Super Robot Wars (a mecha crossover game especially in Japan) Amuro learns other robots are sentient like the one from Mightgaine(a similar to Transformers with Super Robot genre)

We really need more Transformer/Gundam death battles. Maybe even IDW Publishing's Tarn.
As an idea, I can suggest that two old characters collide in the battle of death, who are big politicians in both worlds (practically the heads of two space powers), and are also powerful in a kind of magician. And these personas: First Lord-Regent of Terra, Leader of the Council of Terra, and advisor to the Emperor of Mankind Malcador Sigilit and Former Chancellor of the Republic and First Emperor of the Galactic Empire, as well as Great Sith Lord Palpatine
