Polluted beyond any imagination, sanitary hazards everywhere, noisy as hell, and scammers and touts on every corner. I am by no mean a diva, and I can adapt quite easily, but this country is plain unpleasant to visit.
Love the video - there is no place like Old Delhi, especially the spice market - great job!!! Your advice is right on. I have been to India 25+ times, and lucky to be able to be with local Indian friends and hired guides (former police or military Sikh's so no one plays any games whatsoever!) and it makes all the difference in the world. I find India, the people, its history, its culture, the greatest place to visit. Granted, while you are knee deep in it, it is overwhelming and exhausting (jet lag contributes as well), but I find when I get on the plane and that long journey back, and you have time to reflect what you have just been through and survived, a smile always comes to my face and I say, can't wait to go back!
Such a sweet comment, I agree with you that India, especially certain parts, are not for the faint of hearts and it takes a certain effort to overlook the challenges and focus on all those things that you mentioned. Also luxury travel India is excellent but that involves spending $$ and not scrimping around for nickels and dimes. For example - The Palace on Wheels. It's pathetic when people assume all of India is like this. Ignorance knows no bounds.

I live in Chennai and have visited Delhi many times. In my experience, safety in Delhi is a major concern. But it’s not just that-the pollution and dense crowds are also challenging to cope with. I’ve been scammed many times there, and it feels like Delhi is not just the capital of India, but the scam capital as well. What’s even more shocking is that the local cops seem aware of what’s going on but remain oblivious, allowing scammers to operate without any concern. When comparing Chennai and Delhi, Chennai is much better overall. The only issue in Chennai is the weather, which is hot and humid throughout the year. In Delhi, the climate varies, with very hot summers and colder winters. However, when it comes to scams, safety, and pollution, Chennai is definitely much better than Delhi
Sometimes you need to experience the chaos, there’s nothing like it. Agree with Ben, get a local guide, worth every cent. I did Bangalore last year, experienced a little chaos but manageable, even on your own. No issues with scamming, hassles or ripoffs in Bangalore but used public transport.
"delhi belly" is real phrase. myself I was badly sick 3 times in Mumbai, with violent vomiting on each occasion. that was in the very early 2000s. i also suffered serious diarrhoea after visiting the taj mahal which is not too far from delhi. a very crazy, confusing and difficult country to negotiate. but if you are open minded and understand all the survival tips it can be a fascinating place to visit. you need to drink bottled water and wash your teeth with the same. be very selective with the places you choose to eat at. VERY. also watch your money and do not take it out freely. keep passports and other important documents close to your waist. and stay alert and dont be too trusting. oh yeah, cross the roads with the utmost care else you will end up as road kill.
The constant scamming is how I found Fiji to be. The people in Fiji are the biggest scammers and they ruined my vacation. No place is worth visiting if you're getting scammed constantly.
I understand that most of these people barely make a few dollars a day if they're lucky, but IMO money earned through honest means is far more valuable than dirty money :)
I mean this with legit sincerity man but nowt tickles me more than seeing you in situations like this 😂 Your incredibly entertaining, with zero BS. Your sleeper train videos are legendary. Keep smashing it and much love to you & Kat! 👍
You guys are brave... When i was in Delhi, i only went to my company and straight back to hotel.. i don't even dare to venture out without my Indian colleagues. I am a dude.
I wouldn't. I am an Indian and I do loudly say Indians are world class scammers. This is the precise reason many large MNCs don't open offices in India and yet Indians complain about it.
When in India on my last trip I used Uber to get a price for rickshaw trips. It’s amazing how the drivers differ from city to city…in Chennai they try and overcharge, but in Mumbai they were happy to turn on a meter.
As far as getting hassled by touts goes India (or most of it anyway) is actually nothing like as bad as it was 20 years ago! I personally wouldn't advise getting a local guide unless they are recommended by someone you trust. A guide is just as likely to want to take you to their 'uncle's' spice, craft or jewelry shop (where their commission will inflate the price you pay) as any tout. It might be worth getting a car and driver for a trip to Agra to see the Taj Mahal at sunrise, which is something you should definitely experience, but otherwise it's best just to learn through experience how to deal with the irritations India throws at you. India has more irritations than just about anywhere else I've ever been, but travel there is also extremely rewarding. If you arrive somewhere on a train or bus and are overwhelmed by aggressive touts, go in the nearest cafe or restaurant and order a snack or a cup of chai. You can relax and collect your thoughts. By the time you've finished they'll be gone. Another tip is don't judge the general population of India by the scumbags who approach you in tourist areas. Although it's important to be aware that anyone who approaches you in a tourist area is highly likely to be seeking some kind of financial gain (whether through scams or commission), the same does not apply to the person you strike up a conversation with on a train. Especially if it's you who initiates the conversation.

@@rizkyadiyanto7922suicide bombers shouldn’t have a say
Absolutely true
I was there 30 years ago. It was the same rickshaws then.
Literally read that as 300
As far as getting hassled by touts goes India (or most of it anyway) is actually nothing like as bad as it was 20 years ago!
