Already upgraded before I watched this because, Soundtoys. Excellent walk thorough. I was left with no question's whatsoever. The time ducking is just beautiful! Can't wait to use AND, creatively, abuse this plug (it is Soundtoys after all).
Hey Mike - just a quick mention as you talked about the EMT 240 round the 1:00 mark ... I used to work in a studio that had one of these little units. They were about the size of a console TV, so not very big, but they were actually pretty dark sounding compared to other plates. I haven't tried the SoundToys plugin yet, but I hope they got that characteristic right. (and that they haven't made it "bright" sounding). So excited for this release and to have access to a gold foil plate again, even if only digitally. Cheers!
it's a darker sounding plate, plus you can use the EQ to darken it or bring it up in the mix too. For many of my bluesy-Americana type artists, I usually have it set to the 250, with a little roll-off on the filter, and just tiny bump in the upper mids - really allows the sound to be enveloped by the verb without it being in the way or obvious in a mix
I’ve been complaining about the Little Plate not having eq controls for years. I’ve literally avoided using the plug-in because of this. This makes me very happy because I’m well aware of how good it sounds. I just don’t like having to open two to four plugins to dial in my reverb. I’ll bring copping this for sure.
You can simply save the Plate instance with an EQ right after, as a chain/plug in group/whatever your DAW of choice, names it and have it pop up as the default instance.
@@nectariosm I've never understood why people put the EQ plugin afterwards. It's always made more sense to me to control what's going into the reverb. But everyone seems to do it your way, so maybe I'm thinking about it wrong?
@@rome8180I've tried EQ before and after within my reverb send channel, and it creates a subtle different reverb flavor. I can't explain what it'll sound like, you'll just need to try it, then configure the order to your preference.
That is a very nice plate. No surprise, given that it's a Soundtoys plug-in. Good set of controls without going overboard. I'll need to get this shiny bit sometime.
I have bought the whole 5.4 bundle. I had Little Plate for free, but Soundtoys site offered a trade in for a few dollars off the bundle, which I got just before the Black Friday sale ended. $254 including tax. Oh and SuperPlate is that and more. And the rest, sorry these aren't toys, incredible tools yes. Excellent.
this is easily the best plate out there. Probably sounds better than East Wests plate 4. But MAN I wish they just added a little de esser - I always have to that manually still xDD
Not better than Valhalla Plate, but at 29bucks I bought it cause it sounds very nice and its an extra plate flavour and I use SoundToys plug ins a lot and want to help the devs make new plug ins. The weird bit was the 5+gig install of SoundToys V5.4 bundle...5gigs for the SuperPlate doesn't compute, but I don't see (or hear) and changes/improvements to the rest of the SoundToys plug ins I used the last couple of days.
I don't really understand your logic here. It's 5gb for ALL the plugins. Just because you don't see any changes or improvements to the other plugins doesn't mean there weren't any. Often updates are just fixing bugs. Besides, even if the plugins were exactly the same as before it would take space to reinstall them. It shouldn't be taking any extra space though, because it should remove the previous versions.
Also, in addition to what I already said, it's downloading all formats (VST/VST3/AU). I just deleted the VST3/VST because I use Logic. That got rid of 2.6 GB. So clearly, it was never the Superplate that's 5 gb. It was the whole package. In fact, the Superplate component for Logic is only 65 mb. But anyway, your hard drive space should basically be unchanged. The original Soundtoys bundle you downloaded whenever you first purchased it was probably around 5gb as well.
If it has Mike’s seal of approval, I’m in. Upgrade price is very reasonable! 👌
My new favorite reverb

Happy to have reverb (and a Great one at that) INSIDE of Effect Rack!
I GOT MY EFFECTS RACK BACK!!!
Thanks for the video. Picked this great plug-in up for $80 I think it was plugin-boutique.
Very nice sound.

Your opinion compare to existing plate plugins?
filters are on the input eq is on the output
Just bought it after watching this video.
I was looking on the seller called Reverb. There's an actual EMT 140 for sale. About $7,000!

This beats Valhalla big time.
Not familiar with super plate (as interesting as it seems) but I prefer Arturia’s emulation to Valhalla’s.
