- Johnny Depp and actor/director Maïwenn sat down for an interview with The Associated Press at the Cannes Film Festival to talk about their Louis XV period drama “Jeanne du Barry," which received an extended standing ovation at its premiere.
Depp said there was "perfect synchronicity" between the pair, and that the "circus" of attention to his personal life and appearance on the French Riviera was "still weird to me." It's the Hollywood star's first film since his defamation trial win over ex-wife Amber Heard.

2023 2023 Johnny Depp is back in the spotlight at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
The actor, 59, walked the red carpet at the event in Cannes, France, on Tuesday as his French-language film Jeanne Du Barry, in which he plays King Louis XV opposite director Maïwenn, opens the film festival.
Depp stopped to sign autographs and pose for selfies with fans before making it to the red carpet. He and the Jeanne Du Barry cast and crew posed together hand in hand. Maïwenn, Depp and the rest of the cast walked the carpet to The Clash's song "Should I Stay or Should I Go." Depp received applause inside the theater as he arrived to take his seat. One audience member was heard shouting, "Go Johnny!"
Congrats to Johnny (and Maiwenn too, of course) - judged innocent from those disgusting, malicious accusations by his ex wife, and getting on with his life and career, despite some parts of the media still targeting him unfairly. He deserves continued success.

Oui! I was thinking the same - NOT a comeback. Just a break from the mega-hyped franchises that target mass audiences... JD is more about artistry & quality than about $$ like so many in the Hollywood film industry. I've enjoyed catching up on some of his more obscure or art house films. Also loving the music from his tour & album with Jeff Beck (RIP 😥) the past year. Excited for Jeanne du Barry! 🎉
