  • From U.S. media mogul Oprah Winfrey to President Barack Obama, Chicago is home to some of the world’s most influential figures. Add to that a long list of iconic buildings like the Sears (or Willis) Tower and never-ending attractions like the Navy Pier, and you have one captivating Midwestern city. Of course, one can’t reference the city without mentioning its world-famous Chicago deep-dish pizza. But the list of culinary delights doesn’t stop at pizzerias: in 2015, LSG Sky Chefs (LSG) opened the doors to its new Customer Service Center (CSC) servicing airline customers at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). The facility immediately became LSG’s flagship location in the North America region.
On top of being the United States’ second-busiest airport, ORD is also the fourth most important hub in the world (behind DXB, PEK and ATL), serving millions of passengers each year. With this in mind, it’s only fitting that LSG built a plant with capacity to serve the growing demands of its wide customer base. Located in Des Plaines, a suburb of Chicago, the kitchen is located approximately four miles (about 6.5 kilometers) from ORD and employs nearly 1,000. With 130,000 square feet of commercial kitchen space, this airline-catering facility services 650 flights per day, producing four million meals per year.
“This facility was built with our airline customers in mind,” said Rob Mower, LSG ORD General Manager. “Every component of our kitchen was engineered to fit the specific present and future needs of our airline customers; from our dedicated customer lounge space to our operational flow, our 70-plus years of industry experience was implemented into every corner of this building.”
We invite you to take a peek into the LSG Sky Chefs ORD facility.
