Great personality and sense of humor = way less problems...I can’t help but notice some other channels that have non stop problems re: their (totally legit) Service Dog..!
I need to try the fake name thing, I made the mistake of telling a random man my service dogs name and he started calling him while we were in a check out line at a store (my dog did completely ignore him which I was proud of but the guy just responds with "wow hes paying no attention to me" like well it is his job)
While at work0, I tried to be nice to a customer by asking her SD's name and she politely refused, then explained that she didnt want her SD to be distracted. She's probably went through a similar unfortunate situation.
Very soon after I got my first service dog, I was shocked one evening to hear a man calling my dog - no name, just whistling and "here boy" - from three checkstands away at Walmart! People are just unbelievable, aren't they?
I ended up near a young bloke and his service dog on a plane.... he was so happy when I sat down next to him...... I am 5'1" and my feet didn't reach the floor... and his service dog - great Dane lol. He kept saying thank you... don't know why.. I was the one who had the BEST FLIGHT EVA!!! Sadly it was only a 2hr flight. Beautiful well trained dog, polite young man. I make a point now when I fly to say - if there is a handler and service dog on the flight I am happy to be seated next to them.... loved it loved it loved lol
@@trainedandmaintainedservic786 lol, thank you. But, for the first 20mins while he was trying to get his huge dog in a comfortable position... I said nothing as I knew that you never distract a service dog and their handler. But I had to speak up and I said to him "Look, I don't mean to distract you two, but seriously your dogs legs are longer then mine, it seems such a waste for him not to use my floor space"..... he looked at me, went to say something but looked at my feet several inches above the floor of the plane and started laughing. I volunteered for many years working with rescued abused and so called aggressive dogs, mainly Rotties and bulldog mixes (refuse to use 'pit' as there is no such breed).... I know when a dog is distracted even for a moment is can have terrible consequences..... But, 2bh, it was the hardest thing I ever did, keeping my mouth shut and my hands under my me or those first 20mins.
I raise guide dogs for the blind... people are always talking so loud about the dog that I am raising and they are ALWAYS trying to distract him. It gets really annoying. And thank you for making this video!
I don't get why everyone thinks his hair is an excuse for people bothering you guys, it's still illegal. I dye my hair every colour, I don't want people to interupt me at work either.
PSA: Just because a service dog has dyed hair does *NOT* mean they deserve to be harrassed. Everyone should have enough common sense to understand you're not suppose to pet them, and they're working.
Shinnie I don’t think service dog rules are common knowledge. It’s not about common sense. The dog with purple hair is also such an attention grabber along with the other accessories. Common sense should dictate there will be lots of attention even if it’s mostly stare.
Will M. A dog with purple hair is definitely an attention grabber, but once somebody learns its a worker service dog they should leave it alone. It is common knowledge to read its vest, too. Which usually says “Don’t pet me, I’m working.” Staring is fine, albeit interacting with the dog isn’t.
Will M. Ok it’s her dog and she just did that but READ THE SIGN she had the dog for medical reasons it’s not service dogs that have no common sense it’s u
I honestly think kids should be taught in grade school how to react when they see a service animal and the rules on service animals should be on every news channel at least once a week. Some disabled people let you interact with the animal and some don't but what pisses me off the most is when people get told no and loose their shit.
Ah I LOVE the purple hair it’s so unique! Although I’m not surprised that so many people try to get its attention when it’s so different. Not justifying it but 🤷♀️
Yes, people don't think. They just see pretty and start cooing and squealing. You can see in the video that 99.9% of people keep going about their day though. It's a very small percentage of people who just forget how to act, I guess. I admit I have done the same thing sometimes when I see certain babies. You just lose your mind sometimes--they make eye contact and grin. I have these big white hippo teeth and it makes babies laugh at me, and I can't help it, I engage. I grin back, and then we have this thing going, and I'm distracting someone's baby. Olaf (my service dog) is a total ass--he starts it. He will make eye contact with people. He starts it. They can't help but grin at him and coo. I don't realize what he did, and I ask them not to distract, but he did it first. Those poor people. It took me forever to realize what was going on. My dog is a di...oofus.
Trained and Maintained Service Dogs you have such a wicked sense of humor 😂 Please don’t ever lose it. You help keep a lot of us in the service dog community sane. I have a large schnauzer-poodle mix as my service dog. Constantly get asked if he’s a labradoodle or even told by complete strangers he’s a standard poodle. So sometimes I just laugh and say No! He’s a pony. I always wanted a pony when I was little and now I have one! (Got my inspiration from your quirky sense of humor.🤪😂😝)

It’s surprising to me to see people making the service dogs be noticed. I have my SD for anxiety, and already a dog is a beacon for everyone, but one decked out in colors! It’s crazy! You’ve definitely earned my respect
Try having a hairless dog! lol For some of us, having the dog as the focus of people's attention makes a world of difference in how we feel going out. At least for me personally. I've never been diagnosed, but I'd be willing to bet money that even a clueless doc would be able to smell the anxiety coming off of me. Having my freak of nature there does wonders for my mental fortitude because people immediately zero in on the 70 lb hairless dog and I am super boring by comparison. I'm lucky to live in an extremely dog friendly area, so even if he's not a SD and I've never been diagnosed, he still gets to go most places with me. One day when I'm not too anxious to, I'll see a doctor about a real diagnosis and help (and possibly a PSD). Even though my Xolo is trained to perform some tasks, I don't think he'd make a good service dog, so a future dog would have to take on that role. Also, interesting to see so many people still don't believe psychiatric service dogs are a real thing and different from ESAs.
UGH I bet it gets EXTREMELY annoying having all those people stop and comment on your dog. I understand people think he’s cute and everything but whenever I used to travel with my dog people would constantly stop me and say something about his face being 1/2 black 1/2 white. LIKE YA IK I SEE IT EVERYDAY now move on! We all have places to be !!!
If you didn't want so much attention you wouldn't do things to call attention to your dog. You have the right to dye your dog any color you want. But when you do, you are asking for attention. And you know it. And if you weren't paying so much attention to other people, it wouldn't be such a hardship for you to find where you are suppose to be. I can see you Definately need a dog.
gloria welch idk if u understood what I was saying but my dog naturally had a 1/2 black and 1/2 white face. I have extreme anxiety when I leave home n ptsd so at the time I needed my dog. I put things on him that said “do not pet” and “shy dog, may bite “ jus so ppl would leave us alone. N they still wouldn’t. It gave me so much anxiety to turn ppl away, n tell them no. I wish ppl would jus leave me alone n get their own dogs. I get u wanna pet him, but no owners wants to pause for every person to pet ur dog especially when u are on the move n ur dog is working
@@VictoriaGarcia-cp4yn Thing is that you can't expect people to know your "illness" by seeing your service dog. Most people I see with service dogs are blind people... Not people with anxiety...
You can get a 255$ fine for dyeing the hair of your dog. You wanna go this way? I can give you a list of illegal things they are doing but it's OK since they have "anxiety" right. What a joke
Ok Noa let’s go, you harass real service dog handlers because you can’t deal with the fact that some people dress there dog different. Ya another thing that is a agents the law is to harass a service dog handler and you know what your to scared to see what people said about your comment because you have probably not have even seen what people said about your comment. Oooo I smell something a elementary DROP OUT and your parents let you do it because they are dumb as you. 😉
1.i like your name :) haha and 2. positive energy when going into anywhere will bring a positive outcome. you just need to tell yourself that your training and the work that your team has done will pay off once you sit down and take that final breath on the flight. :) just like a bus or a train, only a little more secure and chaotic. you are capable
FluffyGaming PlusOtherRandomFluffiness Thank you. To be quite honest, I had the same reaction to poodles 20 years ago. Then I started working with one. In spite of the way they look, which is of course the problem, they are a “man’s dog.” They are an athletic working dog. They were hunting dogs, and they clean up in field trials in AKC and UKC. They just look ridiculous.
FluffyGaming PlusOtherRandomFluffiness Ahh. Understandable. People can be unreasonable about their pwecious poopsiekins and don’t enforce discipline. They end up with an ill behaved brat of a dog who bites and they don’t understand why. If all those calm sweet Rottweilers etc acted like yapping snarling nipping spoiled toy breeds they’d be euthanized in minutes. Treat a small dog like a big dog. Ahem. Rant over. Sorry you were attacked.
I bought a toddler sized summer quilt (it has paw patrol on it and is super cute) and I put that down before my SD tucks into her place in front of me on the plane, train, or boat. Gives her some insulation from the cold or hot metal, and protects her from all the nasty germs and viruses on the surfaces. I use it in movie theatres and concerts and such too. Just an idea. Because the body suits don't protect the face and butt where germs are likely to enter, or if there's a cut or abrasions on the paw the blanket protects more, and you can roll it up like a mini sleeping bag and attach it to the bottom of your backpack
Emily Swan The bodysuits aren’t for germs, just grime. There’s some science behind your implication we’d need to get into but I’m going to move on with a chuckle. My dogs don’t work if they have cuts on their feet. A blanket on the floor, especially a summer one, doesn’t do much to block the cold. It helps to wrap the dog’s core. Many people carry a light blanket with them to help keep their service dog clean in place like movie theaters, and it’s a great idea. Personally I’d rather my dog wear it than I carry it!
Emily Swan - I use a cheap bathmat from Costco! They cost less than $10, have a rubbery side that keeps it from slipping, and a fluffy side that is warm and comfy. My dog generally gets chilly, not hot, and since she has no extra fur and is fairly heavy (95lbs) I like to use the bathmat to protect her elbows and hocks on hard surfaces.
Mavis & Me If you think it looks better to carry something that looks like it came out of your bathroom than a custom fitted bodysuit designed for your working dog, good for you! We feel service dogs should be kept very clean and look clean to the public. I’m sure your bath mat is spotless. The one in my bathroom is ...zoonotic.
Haa! :) Yes, her bathmat is pretty clean - I certainly don't use it in my bathroom! It is only used for movie theaters and plane rides, and it gets washed pretty often. I wasn't implying that your idea isn't a good one, just that my dog would prefer the mat any day. She's not a fan of wearing clothes (her vest is about the extent of her comfort zone for accessories!). In the winter, I put a snug, stretchy sweater on her if she has to be in a cold place for very long, and she really dislikes it! However, I dislike seeing her shiver and curl up into a pathetic little ball, so I force it upon her!
Service dogs amaze me because they're so dedicated to their human that they'll let themselves be poked and prodded and x-rayed and not bat an eye. Olaf is a pro!
i’ll let someone take a picture of my dog if they ask but if someone takes a picture of my dog without asking i will say “would you take a picture of a wheelchair?” they usually give me weird look and say “no” and i say back “ then don’t take a picture of my dog, she is medical equipment too. have a good day” then they usually glare at me 😂
You are in a public place people can take pictures of whatever they want. Don't want them to take your picture? Stay in your house. Stop acting like the world has to change for you but you don't change for it. Also dyeing your dogs hair pink is illegal and doing that is pretty much asking for attention. All these "anxiety" pussies are just abusing the system so hard just to get attention. Go upload all your bullshit on social media cause real life isn't the place for that.
@@NoaVanSnick Dyeing your dog's hair is only illegal in Maine, Colorado, South Carolina, and Florida (I believe). People should ask for permission to take a picture since that is common sense. Maybe next time research before commenting please. :)
I NEVER tell anyone except my family and friends my dogs name! And never have even before my Service Dogs. I just have my name, address and phone number on there collar. That way if a tragedy such as my dog was to be separated from me no one would know his name and he would not respond to them very well. He is chipped and I use a GPS tracker that down loads to my cell on his collar also for immediate emergencies, such a tornadoes etc. I also have these precautions on my mom’s ESA dog just in case too.💜💜💜💜
I put my dog's name on his collar. we go to the dog park, someone asks his name and I tell them, they call him and he loses his mind because they don't have authorization to use his name!!! I have to remove him from the area. call him anything else and he'll be loving.
Susan, you’re such an amazing person!! I absolutely LOVE your personality, and you’re always sooo informative and helpful! Idk how you still being a funny goofball and joking about kinds bad news. I just love you so much!! I wish I had the finances to be able to go meet you in person and help volunteer!!
This is the first video I’ve seen from your channel and OLAF IS SUCH A SNAZZY BOY, he really rocks the purple😉I also love your attitude towards the public, very upfront. It’s so interesting to see the ins and outs of air travel with a service dog, thank you for this video!
This was a pleasure to watch, very professional by yourself as the handler. I see so many videos where the handler acts very entitled and is rude to people (Lexi is a prime example of how NOT to act if you as a handler want respect). Thank you for a mature and polite video
Yes! Southwest Airlines is very accommodating with my service dog. I have a golden and we use the bulk head also. I am glad you also are treated well will your faithful train partner. God Bless.
Love how to embrace the pictures and use it as another training method! He’s so distinguished that their will probably always be pictures so the fact that you use that to your advantage is amazing!
one thing i dont understand is why they would send people with animals to a training checkpoint. I guess its just because i have never worked in that system so i dont know how it works.
they said that the training checkpoint did not have a TSA dog stationed there...so everyone traveling with animals was sent there because the TSA dogs aren't trained to ignore other animals.
Thank you for the video. I have wondered about flying with a Service Animal. I use a Dachshund as my Service Animal. Being hard of hearing, I just need a dog that can Alert. I was going to say, hay you make your guy stand out with purple fur.... And so on... But then I remembered the time I had my guy with me at Knotts Berry Farm. People just did not see him. Fortunately he picked up on walking in between my feet and only a little in front of me. So to step on him a person would have to step on me first. So, I can see the thought of him standing out. And if it's just a styling.. Becouse you like the way he looks... Well people decorate their casts all the time and so on. On a personal note I do not use a Service Dog vest or badging (before anyone yells at me, the law states no vest or markings needed. No I.D., or documentation either. Except airlines can ask for some info.). I don't mind when folks ask quistions (as long as they are polite and they really want to learn) or ask to take a picture. I use the interaction to educate folks. But my guy is used to Alert me to Sounds. It can be differant depending on the task the dog does as if folks interacting with the Animal is OK or not. So always be polite and ask. Again, thanks for the post. Could you have asked the flight attendant for a blanket? I know the in flight blanket are used a lot before being cleaned, but I'm sure your pup would have been fine with it. Oh, if your thinking... NO, a person has to use that blanket don't get dog dirt on it... Well just do some googleing and see what will make you sicker. Something a dog has sat or laid on, or something a baby or toddler has been on. I'll give you a big clue ... The baby or toddler is disgustingly filthy and will give you all kinds of nasty things. But the worst you'll get from the animal is dandruff and fur (the same stuff that can transfer off a pets owner's clothing) . To folks that don't get service animal laws... It's simple. Basicly anyplace a human can go, or a human can do, a Service Animal can to. Don't think of it as a dog. Think of it as a little human. The exception is for safety. Not really yours... So allergies don't count. Only if the dog would not be safe. Or if a person would not be allowed then you can also not allow a service animal. Also the Service Animal must be well behaved. Under control. If it growling at folks. Or running loose, or is way out away from the owner on a retractable leash (and it not that way as part of helping it's human) and the owner has no clue... Yep, that's not allowed. And anh Dog that is behaving badly. Generally a real Service Animal will mostly stay very close to its person.... And let me tell you, us folks with real disabilities and real Service Animals hate the fakers more then you do! And that includes folks with real disabilities that Do Not Train their dogs into real Service Animals.
Awesome comment! Thank you! Olaf was dyed purple for a little girl with brain cancer. She lost the fight 4 days before her 5th bday but he made her smile. He was shaved down to mourn her. He still wears a black vest. ☹️
Nova the service dog in training I did not ignore your request. I’ve been trying to locate a dog who will cooperate. I’ve tried with 2 dogs and they both shaped up within about 10 seconds after I took the leash. Short video! I need a nuttier dog so I can show different techniques. Or several dogs. I’ll keep trying.
Im from Seattle and I could instantly tell that you were in seatac airport! crazy lol I love to help people with directions because I am in that airport so much (my husband has been doing construction on the airport for the last couple of years to expand that international terminal, which you would have seen if you went down the stairs by check point 1).
Wow what an inspiration you are!! You are so informational and upbeat even when people are being rude. To me it's common sense not to distract a service dog. They are to focus on their person they are not there for photo shoots. You handled that so beautifully!! God bless you ma'am
@@ashleyr125 These anxiety pussies just cry about everything. For them the world has to change to their liking rather then them changing for the world... Sad bunch of people
Ok noa let go again anxiety is not a joke your a puss you don’t know what we have been through I have been through domestic abuse and I have a service dog. Just another elementary dropout. 😒 I literally feel just bad for you it’s sad that you dropped out of elementary. 😔
A long time ago a couple of wolf's said "hey let's go check out what them two animals are doing sitting around that camp fire " and this is the end result.
I really enjoy your videos. I just recently got my mobility service dog, and the education I’m receiving from you is very helpful. I love the cheerful way in which you respond to folks commenting on Olaf. Most of the SD videos I see are so confrontational that it worries me. But you are polite and pleasant, so that’s the path of least resistance I’m going to take!! Thank you.
In my opinion, I think being honest as to why you don't give out their name will possibly teach people that service dogs should not be distracted. If they get all huffy about it, so what! :D Our dogs are there to do a job. Not entertain the public.
Stargazer39 Agreed, and sometimes I educate, but that woman was kind of spoiling for a fight already and started off pretty entitled and uneducated. I had a long trip ahead of me and wasn’t in the mood. You gotta pick your battles.
Service dog owner here: Your dog will get harassed hair dye or not. HOWEVER you should expect more attention if you dye your dogs hair, especially if that dog is in a public place dogs usually are not allowed.
It's fine if people admire a SD. They just need to refrain from distracting, petting etc... I live Lions! If I see one At the circus, I admire it! I may even take a picture of it. If there is a lion at the circus I don't make kissy sounds, scrunch up my face and try to call it too me. And I certainly don't assume so boldly as to try and pet it! I guess I'm smart like that.🤓 I really don't know why this is even an issue?!?!
I’d have to agree. I am all for Service Dogs and respecting the teams space and privacy however if you are drawing extra attention to your pet by dying it’s hair and having it wear crazy outfits I think your doing your pet and yourself a disservice. The extra attention will lead to more people calling out to distract your dog from the task at hand.
Samantha Manders My backside is remarkable. I draw attention with bright clothing. Is it ok for anyone to do what you just supported? Follow me from close range, take pictures, scream and laugh and point, make kissing noises? What the heck is wrong with people that they don’t understand the idiocy and ignorance of this behavior? This is pure victim blaming. That assault you are still struggling with every day-that was your fault? I DON’T agree.
I wish I had your confidence to tell people off about taking photos of your service dog. I've had 2 run ins so far with my service dogs (only been out in public so far for about a month) and I've been way too afraid to tell people to stop, however by watching different people's approaches to it and reading comments with good comebacks, I'll hopefully gain the courage. Also, Olaf is so beautiful! I'm not a huge fan of poodles but I love him!
I was reading through the comments and I saw how salty you can get aha! I envy you because you can handle rude comments so well. I love watching these type of videos because it teaches me what life is like for people who are in need of a service dog and ESA, I myself do not qualify for a service dog and I have anxiety in large crowds but I usually tend to keep quiet and mind my own business. It really annoys me when people think they can just go up and take pictures of a working animal, but sadly you get those people who are incompetent. u-u keep up the great work and I hope your channel grows! You deserve more than 616 subscribers. You deserve 616,000
Trained and Maintained Service Dogs oh boy, that’s America for you aha. I think America is a great country but you have so many ignorant people. If you were to come to the UK then you would see a large difference. Yes we have lunatics but most of them are respectful and don’t start unnecessary drama. We also hold the doors for people who are unable to open them their selves and we are always happy to help. I’m not saying that all Americans are bad people as there are some really nice people such as yourself. But there is so many people that are so stupid and when they distract Olaf, they could be risking your life too.
“Ah the urge to pick my nose right now.” 😂 I took this brilliant woman’s advice and now tell picture-takers of my service dog that her name is Kitty not Maleficent😂
He's so cute with purple. Maybe putting some purple sparkles on him. I 100% respect service dogs and people with problems. I hope you two are still having a great time though😊
Hi there. Given the other comments I usually get about the color I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic, but thank you. As I have explained before, the color was for a dying child. She has left us and he’s white again. 😀
Love your sense of humor. I too have an unusual Service Dog. She is an English Bull Terrier and garners a whole lot of looks. Even some hateful looks, which I have never been able to figure out. I ended up putting a cute barrette flower on her collar and reception has been a bit better. When people strike up a conversation with HER I try to tell them as gently as possible that they are distracting her when I need her the most and yet some still continue talking to her. Thank you for the instructive video. God Bless you and Olaf.
I am so sorry to hear that so many people were not taught how to act around service animals. I remember reading a book in elementary school about guide dogs...I never saw one back then. I have taught my daughter to be a good citizen, it helps that one of her best friends helps raise guide dog puppies.
I like how you managed to stay cheerful and even-tempered even with all the crankytons and nosy picture takers. I'm pretty cheerful myself but even that would have gotten to me by the time I got on the plane.
You're service dog looks really pretty & fancy. Think that is part of why the kid at the beginning was looking at your dog through the car window. He is so handsome!
Thanks for the note about airplane floors being cold. My service dog is a dorkie so he'll probably spend most flights in my lap, but its a good reminder to keep his sweater close at hand
9:59 I honestly feel and do the same thing when someone tries to take a picture of me my baby or dog I literally just pick my nose and stare like seriously?..
On my way back from anchorage Alaska I had a TSA dog lunge and get about a foot away from domino. He went to full on bite domino in the face. The dog was so quiet I didn’t even see it and I’m hyper vigilant about that kind of stuff. The TSA dog was behind us coming through the line and they were not aware there was a service dog in line.
I hope you complained to a head supervisor?!?! That us unacceptable! I found that some of those dogs are failed police dogs. And that is scary. I love police K-9's! They are greatvat what they do! But, a TSA dog should NEVER do this unless it is trained to capture someone. And even then that is ONLY ON SIGNAL from their handler!!! Some dogs are just not stable enough or poorly trained for that type of work. And should not be around other animals and people. What if that TSA dog ment to get your dog but accidentally grabbed you??? Very scary business!
We live on Whidbey Island. We are training our 10 months mini Aussie to be a ptsd dog for my husband. Ty for the videos you put n RUclips! ❤️❤️❤️ Olaf is, as you know, very beautiful!
That is what we have an issue with and need to further train, we’ll train period, Kizmet on: tucking. He is literally a sprawled right now but we’ll teach him. ❤️
You probably already thought of this, but it's easier to train "tuck" if you use a blanket. He's not allowed to put a paw or tail outside the blanket. You make the mom noise and push his tail/paw gently back in and then clicker or make the happy noise and reward. Then you switch to a smaller blanket. We train "corner" and "tuck" so they can really cram themselves up into a wall, then slide down and tuck all the sticky-outie bits underneath. Practice under booths in restaurants. Awesome excuse to go to restaurants. :)
Karen Grunberg - we are near you! I did a bunch of work with my last service dog in OH because the bus system (Island Transit) was free to get on and off anywhere and everywhere. I was the weirdo getting on at Walmart, then off at the station, then on again by Ault Field and off at the High School!! The drivers must have thought I was either completely lost or mentally incapacitated! I would leave the kids at Paint Your Heart Out to paint pottery and I would just jump on and off buses all day long!
I really like Anacortes. We go there for dinner where & there. No, I did not know that about tuck. TY! I was going to ask our trainer (Courtney Keon w/Skylla Dog Training) how to teach him. She trains us, to train him. She does not train husbands though. Fewy! Lol
The fake name thing is a good idea. I was with my previous SD at Target, sitting and DPT during an episode and some lady literally walked up, made kissy noises, and went to touch my dog WHILE he was tasking DURING an episode. Of course my wife and kids were in the bathroom during this, and I was waiting outside of it, so I couldn’t stop her. Fortunately, Danny never did anything. He just sat there and stared at her like, “Lady, what is your DEAL?!” 😂
I'm really stupid with social media -- I want to show sympathy for that awful experience but clicking the thumbs-up feels like cheering for the whole ordeal. I'm so sorry that happened to you -- I think all service dog handlers can commiserate.
Service dogs are NOT supposed to be reactive to other dogs whatsoever because their focus should be 100 percent on their handler for any warnings or alerts when they are working.
Yeeees. The other dog was a pet. Mine isn’t “reactive,” which is generally understood to mean “aggressive.” They get to be aware of other dogs though. I sure let my dogs notice them, in case they get rushed by another dog Our group’s protocol is that I will tackle the other dog and take it down, and my dog is trained to get behind me and stay out of the way-if there our team members present they are to get any children to safety, and if possible the dogs also. We have had many lunges and even attacks-everyone has. Usually friendly dogs trying to play, but not always. We encourage our dogs to see such behavior as friendly even though they aren’t stupid and can read it correctly. The last thing you want your service dog to do is start getting anxious about other dogs, so you act like everything is a game. Olaf was aware the other dog was crabby but he was being genial about it. He doesn’t feel threatened by other dogs, even though he’s had a few close calls. As for focus, it seems many people aren’t aware that vision is a dog’s 3rd sense. A dog can be watching something else and still be totally aware of its handler through scent and hearing. I’ve had dogs alert me from the other end of the house, while playing with another dog or person. They are truly amazing, aren’t they?
I love it, you are so great handling different people. Love you and Olof . l love poddles had 3 of them They are very smart. I hope you have a great flight.
Our group tends to base that on the individual dog, but the general age is about 10 years. Service life is hard work, and although these dogs are pampered, they slow down like everyone else, and it's harder for them to focus when they're tired. I'll give a general 10 as my answer. That's the norm for program dogs from what I understand. Tiny dogs tend to live longer and are usually carried, so they can often work longer than that.
I am SO thankful that you posted this! I am the future handler of a service dog named Damian who has been training hard in Oklahoma. I train and bring him home in late February and I have to fly back with him. I'm worried that I won't be able to say "NO you can't pet my dog". Any tips?
Twitch Happens Sorry-i will never be appropriate. Ok, your gear needs to have big, visible patches. We have found that in spite of public criticism, people are less likely to pet service dogs in bright gear (but just as likely to interfere in other ways, like talk to them). Leash wraps are a good idea, hanging patches...

Do they keep other dogs away from yours? I know that other ESAs or SDs can be on a flight. Is there a rule to not put two dogs directly next to each other? That seems like it could be dangerous. I’m terrified of an ESA getting out right next to us and being aggressive.
LuckyDal Pretty sure there is no such rule but I have always been seated away from other dogs on the same flight. Airline staff are fully aware of training deficiencies in individual working dogs; the last thing they want is a dog fight at 10,000 feet. Omg the puns!
Trained and Maintained Service Dogs Whew okay. I hear those horror stories of aggressive dogs on planes and I just get anxiety...as I do with everything. But I’ve seen some attacks and I can hardly hold myself up I’m so scared, much less defend Lucky. At at such a high altitude who knows if I’ll be conscious in the first place haha

I'm gonna start doing that too lol

TheMelonVlogs That comment actually made me mad that someone would do that. So annoying
YOU ARE MY NEW HERO!!! This is the best comment I ever got! Thank you. :)

I don't get why everyone thinks his hair is an excuse for people bothering you guys, it's still illegal. I dye my hair every colour, I don't want people to interupt me at work either.
Because you're complaining his getting undesirable attention, yet you die his hair in an attention seeking way.

That dog’s dressed like a clown. Attracts a lot of attention. A service dog should just blend in I think.
Travis Olson idk if it’s just me but we did get taught this in front of an guide dog tho
You’ve definitely earned my respect
GimmieAName could be a psychiatric service dog ?
@GimmieAName there are phyciatric service dog
Your dog isn’t a service dog.
Try having a hairless dog! lol
For some of us, having the dog as the focus of people's attention makes a world of difference in how we feel going out.

True if tommy and I ever travel by plan, are dog would get a shit loud of attention.
I can see you Definately need a dog.
gloria welch I understand seeing the purple dog. But it’s not this persons fault that the dogs face is half and half.
gloria welch idk if u understood what I was saying but my dog naturally had a 1/2 black and 1/2 white face.

I just got my dog today and we’re training him to be a service dog for me
Well we got him yesterday
I have a little blanket for my sd too, he loves it 😊❤️
The thing about airports, your always somewhere but u never know where
Service dogs amaze me because they're so dedicated to their human that they'll let themselves be poked and prodded and x-rayed and not bat an eye.

@@MrDad-sn3ng How about normalizing not taking pictures of people and their dogs without their permission?
You are in a public place people can take pictures of whatever they want. Don't want them to take your picture? Stay in your house.

This is pure victim blaming. That assault you are still struggling with every day-that was your fault? I DON’T agree.
@@trainedandmaintainedservic786 Thanks!😉
Broke my heart seeing him shiver. Poor boy hope the flieht wasn't as long. Such a swear boy 🥰
I love the way you educate . This is a wonderful video.
Lol starts with a b and ends with a bang. I love your doggos hair! So cute! 😍
I'm not a hater I love u and ur dog I just started to get dizzy bc u shakes ur camera a lot 😂😂😂😂😂
You're service dog looks really pretty & fancy. Think that is part of why the kid at the beginning was looking at your dog through the car window. He is so handsome!
omg I hate airports literally just watching you walk though was giving me anxiety!!! they are like mazes and all the people! ugh!!!
Thanks for the information. Also, thanks for the job you’re service does for you. I also thank God for these dogs.
The First Lady looks so nice
Thanks for the note about airplane floors being cold. My service dog is a dorkie so he'll probably spend most flights in my lap, but its a good reminder to keep his sweater close at hand
9:59 I honestly feel and do the same thing when someone tries to take a picture of me my baby or dog I literally just pick my nose and stare like seriously?..
You are so positive calm funny I would have panicked I love watching your confidence♥️
Must have been fun to lose ten years off your life!
It is one of the things my trainer warned us about. TSA dogs are often dog aggressive.
That dog is gorgeous! I like the purple! This dog could be a model!
My Dad lives in Anacortes.
I love how you dyed the top of your dog's head. Olaf is so cute ~
I loved the body suit and the tip that animals can be very cold on planes…great info.
Ha that will be 5 dollars haha I’m stealing that one thanks for this really helpful for us
Nothing triggers my fight or flight more than kids loudly going 'AWWW!' All senses are immediately dialed up to 11
Service dogs are NOT supposed to be reactive to other dogs whatsoever because their focus should be 100 percent on their handler for any warnings or alerts when they are working.
@@trainedandmaintainedservic786 Your dog is trained to provide what service and by what organization?
Katie Koepke true thatswhy my prospect didnt make the cut as a DAD now saving up for a new prospect
Evan Thompson I believe her dog is owner trained
I love it, you are so great handling different people. Love you and Olof . l love poddles had 3 of them They are very smart. I hope you have a great flight.
He’s got purple hair, He Has Purple Hair, HE HAS PURPLE HAIR.
People are gonna stare
I’m afraid I missed your point. What color hair? We now require an IQ test before watching our videos. So sorry. Maybe next time.
tu kingi Yes, dear. I was mocking him. He’s too dumb to get the point, but I got his. Thanks for helping out. 😀
I adore your attitude. You're so chill and interact so nicely with everyone around you. Subscribing just for that!
I train dogs and I also suffer from anxiety I a
Wondering how old do you think a dog should be before quitting service?
Our group tends to base that on the individual dog, but the general age is about 10 years. Service life is hard work, and although these dogs are pampered, they slow down like everyone else, and it's harder for them to focus when they're tired. I'll give a general 10 as my answer. That's the norm for program dogs from what I understand. Tiny dogs tend to live longer and are usually carried, so they can often work longer than that.
Loling the whole video. I love her banter. So funny
I am SO thankful that you posted this! I am the future handler of a service dog named Damian who has been training hard in Oklahoma. I train and bring him home in late February and I have to fly back with him. I'm worried that I won't be able to say "NO you can't pet my dog". Any tips?
Mallet. Preferably rubber.
Twitch Happens Now this is critical: practice being firm in front of the mirror. We might need a training video for this...?
@@trainedandmaintainedservic786 Thank you so much! I'll keep that in mind when I start getting my gear and I'll drill myself in the mirror, or at least come up with a few good lines.
@@TwitchHappens it is simple "No, he is working and needs to stay focused on me. Thanks for understanding." Wishing you all the best and a long and happy relationship with your new service dog.
he looks so FABULOUS that no one can ignore him lol
I mean u did dye your dogs hair purple. People are gonna look and be exited.
“He’s so pretty” “we someone thinks I’m pretty”😭😭😂😂 MEEE
People act like service dogs are unicorns or something, like jeez it's just a dog, you see them everyday.
such a good idea to lie about his name XD
I've never seen a poodle as a service animal you have a very beautiful service animal
Robert Silva Really? They are one of the top 4 breeds for service work/
