Skip (dumpster) comes from the germanic saxon/norse word sceppa / scep which meant a basket or a vessel for carrying. After the great vowel change in Middle English it became skip. Interestingly the sk in norse is pronounced sh. Hence skip is pronounced ship in Scandinavia. A Viking boat was a langskip.
Interesting fact that we did not know about that. It does make a lot more sense when it is explained that way. Thanks for the information. Cheers, Chris and Jess.

Jess and Chris, believe me we love you, we love going out with you, and we love how you've fully embraced life here in the UK. Ignore the haters, they are just very sad individuals who need to get a life. The only source of "pleasure" (if that's the word) they get in their pathetic lives, is the hope that they can provoke a reaction and a feeling of upset in you - they're just reptiles who are not worth anyone's time or effort. But unfortunately it's unlikely they'll ever stop trolling you. As for Council Tax, as sure as summer follows spring, council tax WILL rise. Local authorities are ALWAYS pleading poverty, but somehow always manage to find six figure sums to pay their executives.
By the way - I don't know when you were in the region but Avebury isn't too far from Stonehenge and is, in most people's view, a better place to visit. You can get right withing the stones...
For every one nasty comment, there are 1000's that are enjoying your videos, but it's those negatives poke out in your mind. Ignore them, the people that do them go round all the channels just for fun and because they can. You're enjoying being here, always complementary and polite and your videos are interesting and very professional. I've been to the USA several times, LA, LV, San Francisco, G Canyon, NY, Philly, Baltimore Washington DC. Have found you Yanks just as friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the differences, and was nothing like the way these cities were portrayed on TV drama. Wasn't shot at once 😂🤣
Thank you for the kind words. The haters are always going to be out there, unfortunately. We are glad that you had an enjoyable time in the US. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
I strongly suspect there are those who watch RUclips videos with the sole purpose of finding something to be unpleasant about. They must have very sad lives, finding no good in anything. Stonehenge itself is not particularly impressive until you think of the neolithic culture at the time and begin to wonder what the surrounding landscape must have been like. The first farmers, replacing the earlier hunter-gatherers and how the time anything took to make, must have been of less importance than the way we think today.
You are right, people seem to have nothing better to do. We would have to agree with you on Stonehenge, it incredible when you think about the history behind it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Another cracking video guys. I agree there's a lot of magnificent parts of the USA to visit. Takes a bit longer to get round them than doing sights in the UK of course. Sorry you're still getting the morons trolling you - saddos everywhere these days. Stonehenge is great and if it ever picks up weather wise, it's a nice walk down from the visitor centre (but the bus is definitely a must in poorer weather). You were not too far away from Hampshire and the Devil's Punchbowl which is another interesting viewpoint.
Definitely love and appreciate your support! We appreciate and know we have some of the best support and love. We can't wait to take you all on adventures in the US one day. Yes, but for now, we're enjoying our time here in the here! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Not seen any hate comments, but I didn't watch that recent sweet tea video. Your drive-along videos are relaxing to watch! Once you mentioned tank crossing, I assumed you must be near Salisbury Plain where British army does manoeuvres.. Main touristy thing near there is Stonehenge.
We are so glad that you enjoy coming along for the ride with us. We appreciate your love and support! We unfortunately know hate comes with the territory of sharing with everybody. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Hedges, which are mostly hundreds of years old, are the responsibility of the farmers who own them. The council will keep the road clear but cutting and shaping them is down to the farmers.
I don't usually read many comments but can't believe there have been nasty ones. There are some very sad folk who have nothing better to do than to try and bring others down. Please ignore them! I remember going to Stonehenge decades ago when you could actually still walk among the stones. Avebury stone circle is nearby, and you can still walk among those stones. It's an amazing ritual landscape about which we are still learning. Hope you enjoyed.
Unfortunately, there are, but sometimes I delete them if It's rude or unnecessary. We definitely have some of the best support and love from you all! Thank you so much for your amazing support and kindness. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Wessex isn't a county but more of a region consisting of a number of counties in the south of England, especially Wiltshire and Dorset. It was in Anglo-Saxon times a kingdom, famously ruled by Alfred the Great (and the basis of a drama series based on books by Bernard Cornwell ) .
💯 agree with you, friend! I definitely use that button more often than I used to. I now delete comments that are just downright rude or nasty. I'm going to check out your channel now. Thank you for your comment and time watching. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
@@DaydreamersBarn You guys are making some nice videos, I really liked the drive through Cheddar Gorge, I think it's been about 12 years since I was last there. In fact I think you've inspired me to get a dash camera for my trip to the lake district on Thursday. 😀
Hey, just to provide some positive ‘Ying’ to the negative, horrible ‘Yang’ comments.. Your videos are so well done. You all come across as so genuine, and really appreciate what you seeing and experiencing. 😊👍🏼 I’ll never understand why people feel the need to leave such awful comments, but perhaps we don’t need to try.. just ignore. Hi Guys , those hedges are a home to wildlife too so its good for the environment which is always a plus . Thanks for letting us tag along thoroughly enjoyed 😊❤.
A second comment. When I was younger it was considered definitely 'fringe' to believe that the megalithic sites had astronomical functions, but now it is widely accepted. A Roman author (Posidonius?) quoted in a later one, said that Apollo the Moon-God visited a spherical temple, not far from the sea, every 19 years. This is a very funny time-period, but it may relate to the astronomical fact, known to the ancient Greeks and Babylonians, that eclipses recur every 18.6 years. (The 'saros' period.) Even better is the 'grand saros' period, 56 years. (19+19+18.) Or 18.6×3. Mysteriously thete arr 56 evenly-spaced filled-in holes ( the 'Aubrey Holes ' ) round Stonehenge, Remember Stonehenge's famous alignment at the Summer Solstice, or even better, at the Winter Solstice the other way.
If you are still getting hateful and nasty comments, just be happy that you are giving those unpleasant twits “something to do”! 👍🏻😄😂. Think how truly bored with their lives they would really be, if they had no one to insult! You are giving them a little job! And they should be grateful for the employment! Seriously though, as many have said and as I have done before, those vulgar and rude comments are made by someone/some people who are just JEALOUS of what you have and what you are doing! They are just sad nonentities who have nothing in their lives to write about, so just troll those that do.
My friend, I completely agree with you. They do not like seeing someone else have fun! You know what? I laugh just knowing that I can gripe someone's a** that much! We definitely appreciate and love all of your support and love! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Council Tax is a very fraught subject in England at the moment. I'm very hostile to the presrnt Conservative Government, whom I consider to be protecting the extremely wealthy from being taxed. Therefore they have slowly starving our local authorities of funds, bevausr Government subsidies are important to keep them running. Thus at the moment Councils are being forced to raise Council Tax, because the subsidies are going down and down. Then the Government insinuates that this is all the fault of the local Councils. Do remember that Stonehenge is not the only megalithic site in Britain; there are many others. Other commenters are right to suggest Avebury (north Wiltshire) to you. Here you can walk right up to the stones.
Oh, very interesting. Thank you for your time sharing with us. We definitely appreciate your time watching and leaving us a comment. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Ignore the trolls. They live very sad lives and look for anything to criticise. If they don't like the videos, they shouldn't watch. Those clouds are depressing but it does look as if the sunshine won't be too far away. I think that Stonehenge is not really worth a visit unless you are going to Bath. You can see it from the road without the need to visit the visitor centre. It has gotten too commercialised.

@@DaydreamersBarn You are very welcome. I just remembered that Wood Henge is also on the vicinity. As you would suspect, it is an ancient circle of wooden pillars, though sadly the wood has long since rotted away to be replaced with small concrete posts to indicate where they once stood. Unfortunately, the only thing wooden at Wood Henge that day was the tiny twig the dog found. Some people are underwhelmed by Stone Henge: They clearly haven't been to Wood Henge.
Thank you for the video, I do love the combination of ancient sites and Farmer's markets. You probably won't go to these places but in the Hebrides there is the spectacular Callanish Stones, well preserved and older than Stonehenge by a couple of thousand years. Also Orkney has the prehistoric village of Skara Brae and in Shetland there is a 2300 year old Pictish fort 'Broch of Mousa'. Broch (rhymes with Loch) is a traditional stone round-house fort which could be found around Scotland at the time.

Hello Chris and Jess, thanks for taking the time to share your quirky trips into the British countryside. When you comment about ancient castles cathedrals and churches, just think maybe some your ancestors as well as mine may have had a hand in building some of those structures as a lot of villagers and townsfolk had to lend a hand. Jes Chris and family Hungerford is a stunning place but sadly it has a very sad past that has stuck with the town! Back in 90's and young guy went out with some guns and the result was many people IE Villagers ,the local policeman and some elderly neighbours even his parents were sadly shot as he walked around the town taking pot shots. Clearly this was a very sad day for Hungerford and many dear souls were lost as a result! He was eventually surrounded by the armed police and took his own life! At Avebury, not only can you walk among and touch the stones, but you can have lunch at the pub right in the middle of them!
Maybe if we are back that way we will check that out. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Fan, thank you for sharing this lovely information. We appreciate your kindness and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
The farmers have to cut their own hedges and they do that in the late autumn.
Fabulous, we absolutely appreciate your time sharing. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Sometimes Parish or county council funds work, it depends on context and usually hire a local farmer to do it.
I loved the road trip it was very relaxing . I hope you guys will take us on road trips in America .
We sure will. That is the plan. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Interesting fact about Wessex. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Some people seem to take pleasure in posting very nasty stuff, it's happened to me too, but that's why RUclips has a block button. 😀😀
@Lilly8Listens Oh, how wonderful! I would love to watch it! Thank you for your kindness and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
You are nice people can't see why you would get nasty comments
Thank you for your lovely support and kindness. We appreciate you! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Airman's cross ,so named becasue an early flyer crashed there
Very interesting! Thank you for sharing with us and watching. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
I still visit Stonehenge but during the Solstice celebrations when you are allowed among the stones, it’s magical
We can only imagine how that might be. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Hey, just to provide some positive ‘Ying’ to the negative, horrible ‘Yang’ comments.. Your videos are so well done. You all come across as so genuine, and really appreciate what you seeing and experiencing. 😊👍🏼
I’ll never understand why people feel the need to leave such awful comments, but perhaps we don’t need to try.. just ignore.
Safe travels, keep smiling as everyday is an adventure 😁🙏🏽
Thank you so much! We definitely appreciate it. I (Jess) do my to provide quality videos. I love sharing our adventures with you all. Thanks for the lovely support! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Hi Guys , those hedges are a home to wildlife too so its good for the environment which is always a plus . Thanks for letting us tag along thoroughly enjoyed 😊❤.
💯 thank you for your time watching and sharing with us. We appreciate your time! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Another really good video! Thank you! Thank you!…..One day I will see Stonehenge 🤠
You are very welcome. If you have the opportunity, it is worth the trip. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Mysteriously thete arr 56 evenly-spaced filled-in holes ( the 'Aubrey Holes ' ) round Stonehenge,
Remember Stonehenge's famous alignment at the Summer Solstice, or even better, at the Winter Solstice the other way.
Thank you for your time sharing with us. We really appreciate your time letting us know. We thank you for your comment and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Friend, we are it's just sometimes funny to receive hate. We Love and appreciate all of the support from you and everyone else. We are so grateful and will not allow them to get to us and stop us from doing what we love! Thank you so much for your kindness and support! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Always love your videos with your lovely family. Sorry about the miserable people with terrible lives who get a strange thrill in being nasty.😮
Thank you so much! We appreciate your support and kindness. I now laugh at the trolls. We hope you have a lovely week. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
You should have gone 20 miles north of Stonehenge to village of Avebury largest stone circle in UK lot better than Stonehenge. Rog
Oh, thank you for the recommendation. Really appreciate your time watching and letting us know of somewhere else we need to check out. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Hi Jess,Chris & Kids, thanks for sharing another great video ❤ i was pleasantly surprised to see stonehenge at the end 👍. Ignore the haters they are not worth a second of anyone's time ❤
We appreciate you, dear friend! We love to share with you and have you along for the rides with us as we explore this beautiful place. You're such a lovely support to us! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Can’t say I’ve seen any hateful comments, but they are best ignored.
It’s good to see tourists going outside of London!
We are glad. We appreciate your time watching and supporting us. We love exploring and learning. It is all a great adventure. Thank you for your time. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
sorry to hear that you have been trolled - don't know why anyone would take time out to do that - take this comment as a token of solidarity - you seem like nice/good people to me.
Appreciate your kindness. We now laugh at the hateful trolls. We're not letting them get to us. We appreciate your support! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
If you like Stonehenge, you should visit Avebury. A stone circle so big in encompasses a whole village, and you can touch these ones!
Fab, thank you. A lot of others have recommended that. We will have to check it out! We appreciate your time watching and letting us know. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Hedges can not be cut in the Spring until after the birds have finished nesting.
Thank you for sharing with us. Have a lovely evening. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Love this channel!
We're so glad you enjoy it, and we are thankful for your support. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Lovely English countryside, thanks both l loved it. Mike in Solihull.
We're so glad you enjoyed it! We love exploring and learning. We appreciate your kindness and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for your lovely recommendations. If we do get a chance, we will share it on our channel. We appreciate your kindness and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Unfortunately some people get a kick out of criticising others. If they don't like what you do they shouldn't watch. Simple! I enjoy the trips out with you. Makes a change from me doing all the driving. Looking forward to when and if you come to Devon.
We're so appreciative to have your support! We now laugh at the haters.. We don't take anything personally. We love and appreciate so of the most amazing supporters by far! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Trolls are unfortunately inevitable factor on RUclips posts and I am happy to see that you take their comments with a "pinch of salt" It's good to see you're enjoying your adventures in the UK 🇬🇧 😊
I absolutely love it. We love sharing our adventures and quirky fun trips with you all! We appreciate kindness and continued support. The trolls come up with the territory, and we understand that.
Definitely want to do my ancestry here soon. Maybe I should share the results? Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Thank you for nice video. The only thing I don't like.....it makes me so HOMEsick! Living 22 years in Thailand, and nothing to go back to now. Keep up the good work.
Oh, we're so sorry to make you homesick. We're so glad that you enjoyed our video. Thank you for coming along with us! Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Thanks for the lift guys! I didn't spot any rain on the windscreen yay! I'm glad you ticked one off your bucket list and hopefully you are members of the National Trust or English Heritage? Otherwise it will have been an expensive day out.
We are, National Trust to be specific. It has already paid for itself and we intend on still using it as we travel. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
You need to see the north west, hills, trees, water everywhere, bury, todmorden, Pendle etc, from wayne
@WayneSmithson I agree, I've often made bus journeys (let someone elae deal with bicycles) through the area (free bus pass). Enjoyable.

Ever since then this sad event has stuck with the town of Hungerford. Another great video and well presented thanks so much for sharing!
We had no clue, and we appreciate everyone sharing with us. It was such a horrible thing to happen. We absolutely love taking you all along with us for our fun adventure. Thank you so much for your continued love and support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
Beautiful video. Thank you! Farmers are encouraged to retain hedges for the wildlife. They maintain them themselves.
Thank you for your time watching and letting us know! We appreciate your support. Cheers 🤍 Jess & family x
You must visit the villages in the Cotswolds.
We have been there once. We do plan on going back. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Great video again and I love the music you have in the background of all your driving videos. It's going to be a sad day when you go back to the US.
Thanks, glad they have been able to be enjoyed. It won't be sad, we will take everyone with. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
You get hateful comments? I suppose you get your bell ends in all walks of life.
We do agree with that. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Great trip out today love the banter on the way, stonehenge is stunning
