- West Overton is a beautiful village in Wiltshire, about three and a half miles west of Marlborough.
In 1086, the Domesday survey recorded 13 households in (West) Overton. The parish church of St Michael and All Angels was built in 1877-8. Overton manor house, close to the church, is from the 16th and 17th centuries with later improvements; the main wing has a tile-hung upper floor under a thatched roof, and at right angles a former barn is in red brick.

As an American; born and raised in a generic urban sprawl, it amazes me that places like this actually exist. People live in those houses. It's like a fairy tale. If it wasn't for the trash cans (rubbish bins) I would have thought this a stage set at Disneyland. Cheers and thank you for the fascinating video.

Amazing walk. I love the bird sounds throughout. Loved seeing the different shapes of homes with thatched roofs. What a great idea to put a defibrillator in the phone box. Lots of countryside views. This is one of my favourite walks (I think I say this every Sunday).

Just lovely as usual. Kevin could you explain the roof system on some of these buildings...we do not have this kind of a roof in the USA. How long will they last? Some look like thatch and I also wonder if there are tradesmen who do that kind of work in the present day. So interesting. I also loved seeing the pretty white flowers!
Wheat straw, water reed or long straw is used, depending on what is available in the area. Rethatching a roof has to be done every 20 to 25 years (using wheat straw or long straw) or 50 to 70 years (using water reed). It is carried out by a skilled craftsman, a master thatcher.
I want to move there!

This is unreal! I don’t know where I have seen this, in my imagination, or maybe in a dream, or in postcard … but I never knew this scenery existed.
It is out of this world!! I would love to know what the roof is made of, for it seems like a rug is draped on the house. They are so well kept, and birds singing seems like is not earth!!
They are called thatched roofs, made with reed.
Wow!! So, this is reed !! It is a plant to make houses...Earth is a miracle! God is awesome and He is our father. We are not orphans and if go to heaven we will see things which have not entered in our imagination, which are for those who love Him...@@thewealduk9802

West Overton is truly a charming village!!. I found that many of its houses had a more old and rustic appearance than in other villages. Lots of thatched roofs and it's really beautiful!!. The church is truly remarkable and the red brick Overton Manor House cannot go unnoticed!!. In the cemetery a moving memory: a bench where it was engraved on the file: in memory of Lucy. How touching. Thanks Kevin

Those birds must be ravens. We have crows here. Their call is slightly different & crows are smaller. There are ravens on the west coast. Great channel. 🇨🇦
Rooks not Ravens. You definitely need good double glazing to be able to sleep in when they start their Dawn Chorus!😄
Fun fact , apart from the telephone lines going into each house there is no big ugly power lines crisscrossing all over the place ,all the power cables in the U K go into the houses underground
