BMW headlight wipers are just so adorable in their criss-cross pattern. I mean, its just so cute and funny to look at 4 individual tiny wipers wiping 4 individual headlights at the same time in an X pattern.

I've never had dirty headlights even though I have driven in quite bad weather on gravel roads

Its funny how the wipers haven't been 'replaced' by anything better. They just took them away and now the washer fluid just... dribbles and leaves a mess.
And it doesn't even clean it well if there's anything more than a bit of dust
I’ve never had a car that had them.
That includes a 244, 744, and 745.
And after driving in almost 30 Canadian winters.... quite honestly... I’ve never felt the need to have any headlight cleaning system.

Thats because headlight lenses were glass that did not get scratched. Nowadays they are polycarbonate(plastic) which get easily scratched.
@@RoopeLuukkainen And the head lights are not the flat surface from glass but in new cars headlights are from plastic as you said and have a million different dents and other different shapes and the wiper must have a very complicated mechanism to wipe such a weird shapes surface
Everyone says the Saab is the best but the last Volvo one is my favorite. It's a little, cuter version of the bigger one used on the main windshield. That's so adorable.

Much more useful than the new fancy ones that just spray water onto the headlights and not actually wipe the contaminants off.
I like the Mercedes and Volvo 960 wipers, they look efficient, the blades doesn't hit the lamp frame

I had Volvo S60 2004 with bi-xenon Lights and wipers. One of the latest Volvos with headlight wiper system.
My parents owned a 1979 Vauxhall Royale (Opel Senator A/Holden Commodore) which had headlamp wipers, which fascinated me.
The BMW 3 series & Volvo 264 ones are certainly funky!
Yes even the round headlight lights on l70's Volvo 244/242 /164E/164TE has wipers too .

My Nissan N13 has wipers, and they stay horizontal as they move, they are attached with two arms. They're also supposed to wash but the pump is dead.

Actually the headlight vipers are way better than the modern ones today. The completely spoil the car’s paint!

In India, they even cut cost by providing just single hand in windshield wipers of some cheap cars and here they have headlight wiper in 80's cars!

man, ive got a '93 900 and when i tell you that the engineers behind SAAB thought of everything, i mean they thought of EVERYTHING. all of it is so thought out, down to the little "fresh air" vents in the center of the dash.

Sadly, I don't think it's even possible to have them on new cars, since the headlamps are generally made from plastic and wipers would scratch them.
Cars were built better when they didn't cheap out on materials.
Sadly plastic headlight covers are actually mandatory and not a case of manufacturers cheapening out. Glass is insanely dangerous if you crash into a pedestrian.
Afaik the last glass headlight car was the volvo V70 / XC70 P2, which was forced to drop them in the 2005 update, meaning the headlight wipers also went away.
@@Fradias11 Thank you, I didn't know that. But what really bothers me is their susceptibility to yellowing and scratches. All cars with plastic headlights I had were having these problems. I wonder if new ones are better, since technology has surely developed after 20 years or so. Or if they could perhaps use similar technology they use on window glass, so it doesn't cut the pedestrians. Although I guess since they aren't meant to last that long, it's no longer a bother.
Wow, some of those cars are about 30 years old and have more luxury than my 2011 Toyota.

The catch is... those headlights were made of *glass.* Of course, there are workarounds for that, to make it work today, but why bother and spend, when you can sell washer fluid and high-pressure pumps at greater rates?
Oldschool wipers are much better, that new washers. I have BMWs e12 e23 and Volvo 940 with wipers, and GLA with washers. And gla sucks

0:29 Those are the saddest headlight wipers I've ever seen.
I would say the BMW ones are. They're stupid, the wiper blades look like they were haphazardly placed there. If they stop in the wrong position they cut your headlight beams in half. At least the volvo ones return to the bottom of the headlight when at rest.
And they sound like saying "kill me please".

Its woke "climate change" , charge more deliver less or something like that and you have accountants running car companies. See what happened to BMW last week.., they now charging monthly subscription to use heated driver seat .. Next if your credit card is decline , you can not use the brakes.. 😄

The first time I saw a thing seems ugly and useless about an E30. Thanks god all E30's equipped such funny mechanisms are of course broken.
Yet a modern 'wiping' system for some newer car costs more and is rubbish...

The only good thing with those is to make rust on your chrome front bumper because small pebbles fractured the finish on the bumper.
