I would add Queen II to this list. Queen didn’t hit their stride until their 3rd album, Sheer Heart Attack, and then became superstars, but those who eventually listen to their albums prior, especially Queen II, eventually come to realize that that is a perfect album and it’s a lot of Queen fans favorite album, including me. Not to mention the iconic album cover.
@@donpardo2510Il faut être objectif, les formations et le style sont clairement différents. Le groupe aurait dû changer de nom après les départs de Green, Spencer et Kirwann.
Its by far the greatest and most beautiful FM album! New boy Danny Kirwan proved not to be only a great guitarplayer but also a wonderful songwriter and singer. Peter Green also let him write eight of the albums forteen songs. Add to that Danny was still a teenager when he joined Mac a year before.
This is in theUK. First three LP’s sold sparingly, and really only in London to an inner circle. I heard The Gift in1969 as my friend had an older brother. David Bowie was given a demo of 1st lp before release. Now touring museum item!
A similar thing wasxsaid about an early english punk gig by, possibly, The Clash with an audience of a little over a dozen with everyone starting their own bands.
Kate Bush - The Dreaming. It bewildered both the critics and the general audience at the time in 1982, but has since come to be seen as the daring masterpiece that it is.
How did you miss The Kinks Are the Village Green Society? Probably the number one flop album most mentioned by music critics and fans as being one of Kinks' best, and hugely influential to future generations of musicians. It went gold 50 years after its release.
Great list but some of the image choices are…. Interesting; a version of Fleetwood Mac from years later than Then Play On, a poster of the Bee Gees duffer of a film to represent Sgt Pepper - do I detect a touch of AI generation ?
Badfinger is in a whole different area code than these other bands, with the exception of Raspberries ... Badfinger and Raspberries did have top ten and maybe even No. 1 chart success. Just not enough of it ... BTW, as long as we have the Nice and Keith Emerson, I'd also include King Crimson and Greg Lake ...
Pretty much everyone, including the Rolling Stones, consider Her Majesty's Satanic Request an album that didn't really work. It has the gem "She's a Rainbow" of course but today, most people have the same impression as people did when it first came out.
Led Zep III was their best in my opinion the day released. Consider Hey, Hey and Poor Tom didn't make the album, but was written in the the sessions for the album. Hey Hey did make side B of the Immigrant Song single. Jimmy decided it would only be on the single.
Marvin Gaye WANTED "Here My Dear" to be a flop. I still consider it his weakest. I wonder if Stevie Wonder wanted the same fate for his "The Secret Life Of Plants" disaster.
Remember those books? The power of prayer on plants and the above mentioned. I remember seeing Stevie's The secret life of plants in the record stores and thinking, " huh ?"
It may not have sold well, but I always liked The Secret Life of Plants album. In any case, I can't see any reason for Stevie Wonder wanting his album to flop.
I didn't think Satanic Majesties Request was that bad. The thing was not everyone in '67 was on board with the psychedelic thing, some people still prefered the blues orientated rock that bands like the stones were famous for. The Stones didn't exactly do well with the single We Love You either.
Replace the insipid "Sing This All Together (See What Happens)" with "We Love You" and the Stones (especially with the creative contributions made by Brian Jones whose unique efforts are numerous) turn this overlooked album into a Psychedelic Masterpiece.
@KevinRudd-w8s the album was originally criticized as an attempt at making a Sgt. Peppers concept album. Once the comparison stopped Satanic Majesties became more appreciated.
Gee, I wonder what could have turned people away from that Stones album 🤔 It wasnt too long after Lennon said the Beatles were more famous than CHRIST! Western Music very, very gradually got darker & darker throughout my lifetime, but Come Together & Sympathy 4the devil was a real breakthrough & sure indicator of the decadence to invade down the road ! I'm 72

I'm curious to know why you showed the album cover from the Sgt Pepper film rather than The Beatles.
Yes, I laughed when I saw that!
Kind of surprised that Nick Drake cared that no body got him. His music screams you won’t get me.

I forget whose quote it was that "The Velvet Underground album only sold 5,000 copies, but everybody who bought one went and started a band!"
Perhaps Lester Bangs
A few youtube videos have suggested that Brian Eno was the quotes author.

Every Neil Young album has treasures and innovations

I was thinking the same thing.
Even the voice is AI. Keeps saying Led Zeppelin Third.
Marquee Moon by Television should be on this list
I need a crowd of people. But I can't face them day to day. Neil Young
Remember to use, "Quotes."
Zep 3 is my favorite album from them!
Lou. Reed. Sucked.
I thought that was Candy who came from out on the island.
Definitely, but nice to have around.

Gotta love power pop!!
Nick Drake was a singer-songwriter not a folkie. All his recordings contain his own songs, not traditional folk music.
'Radio City' was an even better album, equally ignored.

Satanic Majesties and Ramones are great and so was Bowie!
Pet Sounds....

I heard Marvin was sued again by his ex (Barry Gordy's sister) because she felt offended by the title,,,
The Stones album, Their Satanic Majesties Request, actually has a small photo of John, Paul, George and Ringo on the front cover.
That was a response to the "Welcome The Rolling Stones" sweater, on the cover of Sgt. Pepper's.
@ExplodingPsyche I know...
Appreciate music certain songs aren't for everyone it's your own taste.
Neco? Who?
For Part II include:
MC5
Flaimmin' Groovies
New York Dolls
Runaways
Dictators
Add RadioBirdMan

Anybody who'd call Led Zeppelin III "crap" is beyond help.
That opinion most likely comes from someone who doesn’t own decent stereo equipment and listens to music straight from their phone
