@davidjefferson4941 The world was influenced by USSR and US those days. All developing and developed countries had to ally with one of them to secure protection, technical and military assistance and build their countries. The shah was anticommunist, and allied himself with US. He built modern Iran, Iranians got best education even leftists themselves. The strictness of his regime would have softened with time and newer generations would contribute more. Iran's position was well respected regionally and internationally.

Perhaps that word in your native language seems to share the common roots with dushman from classical Persian, I’m quite unsure. But all I can be sure is it’s not a lone word from Russian
The word Dushman is a surviving word from the ancient Persian language, and Russians have many words from Persian
