I've been using and enjoy the Suunto Vertical Solar. Really is a great watch! And while it's not perfect, it's a well made and reliable piece of tech. Cheers!

I have been using the Non-Solar version for over a year now, and no problems with anything I came from Garmin and never going back! Battery is mega I have completed several 100mile races over 34-35 hours long and no issues at all while having the navigation on! It is a great watch for ultra runners, Only thing is the HR but I bought the Coros HR strap and it works fantastic with the watch :)

I’ve been using the Vertical since February, and I have really enjoyed it. I came from using the Apple watch Ultra, which just didn’t cut it for ultra running. The battery life and GPS accuracy just can’t be beat. The HR monitor is a little dated, but I use a arm band anyway. I used it on my Run Rabbit Run race last month, which took me 35 hrs to complete and the watch still 45% battery life on it.

Great review Steven! Nice watch but I think Coros is next for me as I move on from my Garmin.

@@seekingUltraNick the APEX 2 is all systems on GPS, whereas the APEX 2 Pro is dual band GPS. Both are great though

Great overview of the Vertical. I currently have a Garmin Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar, but am not happy with the visibility of the map screen while on the go (ie, running with poles, not stopping to adjust angles or even push the backlight button, etc). So I've been thinking about the Race with the AMOLED, but I do really like the extra life of a solar. Do you think it's easier to read a map on the Vertical than a Fenix?

I’ve not really used the Fenix watches much so I can’t answer that. The amoled of the Race is really nice!

I really want one BUT I do wonder how long until a version 2 is released that includes the newer and better heart rate monitor. Any ideas?

No clue. I am going to meet with Suunto next month so maybe I’ll see then

@ cool. It’s always my fear with “smart watches” that you spend £500 and then it’s old and dated within a month as a new one comes out…I’ve had a Suunto Core as my daily rough it watch for ) years now and it’s been amazing…very good quality.

As always, CRUSHING IT Steven! 🔥Loved the in-depth review here! The Vertical remains one of my favourite ever watches. I like the blend of accuracy, battery life and comfort (it's super lightweight with a nylon strap). I wonder what Suunto will do next 🙈
