- It's the start of the year so let's figure out where the used camera market is going. I went through and figured out how expensive used cameras are from the likes of Canon, Blackmagic, Sony, Panasonic, and Fujifilm and organized them.
Thanks for watching!

The Canon T3i is such a good suggestion for beginners. Once you get exposure down, if you are serious about learning cinematography I would definitely suggest running it with Magic Lantern. You get internal and external RAW, using that removes the recording limits too. You also get focus peaking, waveforms, zebras, false color and a bunch of other things a 150 usd camera has no business doing. Master that camera and you're gonna be ready for production for sure.
honorable mention for sony:
look for the Sony A7c if you have the budget for a Sony A7 III, but want a flipp screen and want to rig the camera out. With a cage this camera feels like FX3 / FX30!
Ah yes thats true, I'd love to get my hands on the A7c at some point to try it out
Great vid! I hope that the reason for not many used Ursa Broadcast G2s is that people like them so much and don't want to get rid of them. I also found out recently that the Luc Adapter Magic Booster can be put on the Broadcast G2 making a larger field of view. Essentially making it close to a full frame image. I've seen videos it being applied to the 12K, but not the other Ursa models.
Killer video man, you got a new sub. I would’ve totally added a camera that I work a lot of corporate shoots with, the Sony FS7 Mark II; currently you can get it for 1800 beat up to 2300 clean. Grading the 4K 10 bit 422 S log looks really good especially paired with Canon FD SSC glass.
Such a great video. Since I have a limited budget, this definitely helped a lot.
Awesome! I'm really glad that you got some value out of it
Panasonic gh4 and gh5 were game changing for my videography career. Kinda insane the gh6 is that cheap as brand new camera. I think they waited too long for the gh6 release and most people jumped ship to other camera manufacturers. I ended up going Sony with the FX3.
Still rocking my BMPCC4K and it’s such a great cine camera. It does take some rigging due to the abysmal battery life, but it’s easy to run with a top handle, field monitor, SD card, lens and a hand full of batteries which makes this a decent ‘run and gun’ set up.
If you are a gimbal user; be aware. The bulky body does not give you many options. My budget gimbal setup was narrowed down to the Zhiyun Crane v2 and even then I’ve had a few teething problems.
I am new to this and don’t know ANYTHING. And when I said anything, I don’t know anything from SD cards to how people attach all that stuff on their cameras. 😢 I have a BMPCC4k that I bought for $900. It doesn’t have a lens and I’m not sure what to use that’s not $1,000 or even near $500 to be honest. Is there any thing you can recommend to add on to the camera such as lens and SD cards and battery life? I looked on Amazon, but wasn’t sure what to get. I just wanted to make good quality kind of like a montage video.
There are Great Videos that Feature everything to know about the Pocket 4K.
@@user-nx5cl8dk1k a good quality SD card with a decent amount of storage capacity and good transfer rates should run you about £35, ‘YongNuo’ 50mm lens for £50~ and an ef to MFT adapter £15~…. Because the MFT sensor has a x2 crop factor and the 50mm is a prime, you will be shooting at 100mm. This may limit you to some degree, but with imagination and a bit of hard work; I believe you can make limitations your strength. Hope this helps. All the best in your filming endeavours!
The BMCC 2.5k is also a great camera. It records directly to an SSD drive. And you can get a speed booster for it too.
I think the ZV E1 is worth mentioning. Used for about 1.700$. So its about 900$ below the A7sIII with the same sensor and better IS.
Very interesting, I always forget about the ZV line. That is an amazing deal to get that same sensor for $1700
I chose a mint condition GH5s… I needed as much internal recording choices… something that would mate with my SLR magic microprimes and that quirky 17x9 sensor …gives me some anamorphic flare…hehehe just a tad… and lastly some awesome lowlight capabilities…all good
Iv never bought a new camera. Everything used and 'low hours'.
Best deals I have ever got:
2021 C300 mkii $2700 with 40hrs on the clock.
Canon me200s-sh 4hrs clock $300. Bidding. 2019.
Canon me20f-sh $2000 9hrs on clock.
Shooting 5K 14 bit RAW on my year 2012 EOS M - best budget option imo
with which sd card you can do that? I got an eos m with magic lantern
Also which lenses do you recommend?
I’m still happy with my pair of C100 Mark II. I would be interested into a C300 bundle in the future but I don’t feel any rush.
You're forgetting about Magic Lantern on the old Canon cameras which allow you to shoot 14 bit RAW.
Good old magic lantern. I would love to make a video at some point about that, I forgot how much you can actually do with magic lantern
For a few seconds
S5 should be cheaper than that secondhand. It was $998 recently on both Amazon and B&H, both brand new, direct from them (not third party sellers). Total bargain.
I've been seeing the S5 on eBay for between 750 and $800 quite a bit lately.
hey, great vid but as a heads up there seems to be a glitch at the end of the panasonic rundown? maybe its just my device hopefully but it seems to freeze for a bit
Nice catch, I see it. It should fix itself in the next hour or two. Thanks for pointing that out!
I'm going to test out a package with UMP 4.6k G2, viewfinder, Smallrig rigging, V-mount batteries, Cfast card, tripod quick release system and shoulder rig set - for 3000€. Let's see how it goes. I will update when I've tested everything.
UPDATE: It's legit, the camera is good as new. The package includes all of the above and a large high quality backpack to carry everything, for 3k€.
Let’s go Blues!
I knew you would like this shirt
what about the 1dx mark ii?
Commenting to help the algorithm
Haha thanks a bunch
As someone who works at a rental house i can say that the list is good but the canons in my opinion are trash..
Fx6 right now is probably the most popular cinema camera rented right now of course if one is not going to buy an old arri camera
sony a7IV?
I'm really undecided. Is the camera worth the extra cash when skipping the C100 for the C100mk2?
If you can find a c100 with the dual pixel upgrade (or don’t care about autofocus) no. The mk2 has dpaf as standard
Canon sx20 is it worth buying in 2024
Overlooked the eva1 :(
And also the varicam LT and 35... some proper cinema cameras, with a huge pricedrop too. Also I was missing the old Sony Cine Altas, that are crazy cheap today, like F5/F55 WITH 16BIT LINEAR RAW(WTF...) or the cheap Red DSMC2 Cameras... But besides that a good video.
F55 is a goat. I just picked that camera up myself. 4k global shutter, 4k 120 raw with the r7 recorder, and all the support hardware you buy will work with the Venice 1, so there’s an upgrade path
Are you anti-R5c?
Blackmagic micro erasure, but that's okay. Best kept secret
I did actually forget to include that camera in this list. I would love to get my hands on it at some point and test it out
BMMCC is the best!!
.58 speedbooster, Rawlite OLPF, and you’re good to go
Canon camera were great 20 years ago, but massively overrated now today for 2024.
It did seem like they ruled the world back in the DSLR days for sure, really interesting how things have changed
Especially with Panasonic and Sony.@@jakehayden998
Sorry but how could you forget about the magic lamp I mean lantern
*Magic lamptern
Don't ever skip over the A7IV again....😡
C200, doesn't look so good
