@@RichLunaMusic I know right? Nothing makes me feel better than watching a tutorial that doesn't tutor and then feeling like a dipshit because I wasted time.
I have the same E-II Eclipse and it is currently designated as one of my living room guitars, I was in the kitchen when my girlfriend asked what I had done with my furniture polish, I asked her why and she told me my ESP was a bit dusty and she was going to polish it for me, thank god I caught her in time, she now knows not to polish any of my guitars as the 2 satin ones I have will become shiny, and I don't want furniture polish on my other nitro finished guitars as the furniture polishes are not all made from the same ingredients, and so I don't risk using those products. I now have some giant microfibre cloths that I throw over the guitars on stands to keep the dust off. I normally just dust it very carefully with a clean microfibre cloth by dabbing the dust, it picks up the dust, I don't get too many fingerprints on it and so I haven't yet polished it, I have had it for about 14 months and usually only clean it when I change the strings.
Thank you Sir for this informative video! I just bought a EVH Wolfgang with a black satin finish. It's a beautiful guitar, and I absolutely LOVE EVH Wolfgangs. Have not had to clean it, also didn't realize what to use to clean it until watching your video. You saved me a lot of possible heartache, thank you!
I use the Dunlop care kits myself for cleaning my fiddles. I think the worst experience I ever saw was when someone I was teaching went home and put lemon juice out of the kitchen cupboard on his fretboard rather than getting proper lemon oil 😱 he had no idea and came back with his board in a sticky state and his strings all rusted and didn’t know why! It Took forever to get it out the fretboard! Nightmare!
Thanks man. I got a Schecter Synyster Gates Satin Gold Burst, one year later the gold hardware starts to wear down due to my acidic sweat. Don't want the satin finish to be messed up that fast either
No polish, use a T-shirt. I wasn’t going to use polish but was hoping there’s some sort of cleaning product that maybe was antibacterial or degreaser to easily get grubby marks out. I just got a satin black Jackson today and even though the guitar is mint and like new, it’s got fingerprints and stuff on it that are showing up in my photos and stand out even more if light hits it. I got a really nice cotton feeling shirt and soon as I touched the surface of the body it felt like friction. Have u ever seen a car that been through a mechanical car wash machine and in the sunlight you can see rings and rings of light scratching on the car’s paint. I feel like I’m doing that to it. It’s a satin black arch top Jackson JS32 all black with black hardware and Floyd rose. The paint work is mint and it’s the sort of colour that makes even tiny scratches stand out from across the room I’m glad now that I decided to look into it for once before diving in and making a mess as usual,m, and if anything you have kinda inspired me to watch other videos on it and find out more. Thanks for the advice tho, and the guitar story.
My strat is seafoam green satin finish. Its really light with a hint of green so after a year its showing grubby spots from what ive been told do not put any type of polish just a clean microfibre cloth
My Kiesel custom 9 is a satin finish with a richlite fretboard and jumbo stainless steel frets. It literally only needs a cloth. After time when the frets/sides of frets build up, I’ll clean em up with a polish but yea. That combo doesn’t need much.
The natural oils that make the satin shiny over time are easily removable with 5 seconds and a green brillo pad. Dingus didn't know to say that either. He could have taken the polish back off with it too.
Please help I need to sanatize a guitar with this finish. Trying to save this abused ax but it’s needs to be disenfected first… trust me. Need advice asap Please!
Have you tried the music nomad guitar detailer? Not sure how new the product is but it’s made for satin/matte finishes. Haven’t used it yet I just re-finished a satin guitar and have been waiting to test it out
my bass was a satin natural wood finish all over, now it's covered in beautiful shiny arm sweat on the part my arm rests lol looks better that way and I want it to spread over the whole body.
wow fella thanku for gettin back to me its only visible under night light otherwise its beutiful im taking the strings off and going to give it a good overhaul tonight then restring with new strings, do you think i should just dust down the body then go over it with the new cloth
Yeah give it a wipe down with the closets no oil or anything and see how it looks maybe after a few cleans it may improve but if it’s not very visible and doesn’t affect the playability it’s all good 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Luckily I found this vid before put some guitar polish on my LSX-1. It's a black satin finish, strat. Body type. Thankyou for this! You saved my guitar
Can I use polish on a matt/satin guitar if I want it more glossy? (I have one and the area between the pickups below the strings is almost high gloss now from resting my fingers there)
Thanks alot man this video helped me alot. Not much on this topic on youtube about these Satin finish cleans. Also what do you all think of the Taylor Satin finish guitar cleaner spray to help clean?
Hey mate yeah i thought mine was just getting that 50 year relic look after 6 months…I screwed up I bought an evh stealth Got some awesome polish apparently and it’s now an evh shine… its worse looking back knowing I was rubbing even harder on those shiny spots
On a satin finish guitar when it came with a dull spot how does one correct that? At angles with light hitting it it looks like a dull golf ball spot under the bridge. When I snap a shot with my camera the spot looks light white haze. Purchased a brand new guitar first one ever brand new not used and it had a dud pickup was beautiful but dud pickup. Told to return for an exchange. The replacements pickup works great, but this spot under the bridge just. Well I've had 3 people ask what I did to it to make that spot. So I want to try and fix it. Really don't want to spend a month again trying to get customer support to tell me how to fix it as last time it took 20 days and the resolution was return it for a new one.
Thank you. That is absolutely correct. But I do have just one question. What is that bottle of polish for, lol. For real. You just said multiple times to NOT use any polish on a satin finish guitar. And then at the end of the video, you showed us a bottle of polish.

I have an ESP LTD-EC1000 with golden hardware is there an special way or tool that you’d use for cleaning the hardware? Or just a plain microfiber cloth

@@robertrobertson3754 hopefully you can see my profile pic. I couldn’t imagine what it would look like without it. A dry rub with a GOOD quality polishing cloth works but the satin finish holds fingerprints and smudges so the spray is nice to keep at home
Great informative video! Unfortunately I came across your video a little bit too late. I tried to remove a weird spot on my ESP Eclipse 2 (2008 model) with guitar polish and noticed the satin finish started to shine. Because I stopped right away it's not very noticeable, but nonetheless it scared me a lot! I've just bought this guitar used and payed a decent amount of money for it. So I would hate to see it ruined by a stupid amateur mistake. I will definitely keep the guitar polish far away from my satin finish ESP Eclipse now! ;)
Hot breath. Get a bit of condensation on there and fingerprints will wipe off much easier. A note on microfiber. It will tend to hold on to grit that may not come off just with shaking. Not a fan of microfiber except for polishing wax on cars. I like what started out as a good wash cloth. Not the ones in the 10-packs. Quality ones from the bath aisle. Also old work-weight T-shirts.
Should never spray anything directly on any guitar. Regardless of finish. Always on the cloth, no T-shirt either please lol😂. You can Also if unsure spray the cloth and rub a small test spot somewhere on the guitar first. Nice guitar, hope this helps…Also also, I’m no authority on anything 🤘
Satin finishes look like absolute garbage after a month, no idea why ESP are so hell bent on having all of their single colour guitars be satin, I just want a black e-II eclipse, apparently that’s asking too much.
Ok so, over 7 minutes of video just to say don't use anything but a microfiber cloth to clean the satin finish? yeah, uh, ok. Absolutely not necessary to be so long BUT I will still say thank you because I also had no idea. I have a EVH satin green guitar that is now turning brown with dirt spots and I am gonna try this although I don't think it will work. Again, thanks, but this should have been FAR shorter of a video.
This guy has no idea what hes talking about. Still. You can use a light guitar polish. And lightly rub it. Alls it will do is Clean it up and remove any fingerptints or grime.
tl;dr: Don't use polish on satin guitars, 4:08 use a microfiber cloth and rub
Wish I read this comment first
To sum up this video.
-no polish
-use microfiber cloth
The end.
