In Tekken games, and in this series as well, King is perhaps only one of the few players who fights in the tournament not for personal glory , money or fame, but for helping children in his orphanage. That is what drew me most to the character initially. His cool moves are just an add-on.

The other good guys. Yoshimitsu, Julia, Lars, Xiaoyu (after Tekken 3) and pre Tekken 6 Jin. Makes you realize how much the rest of the cast are assholes.

In game and lore wise it doesn't make all that sense why Paul loses.
However from a narrative point it does make sense...the final fight for Jin is supposed to be the hardest and while Paul would be stronger in game...his motivates and reason for fighting aren't as...serious and personal as king's.
Paul wishes to fight to be the strongest just because but is an overall nice guy. He doesn't have the extra motivation to be a could foil and contrast for Jin in the story.
Where it works in games since you have multiple endings and what not. Here it doesn't work as a much.
They build up king to be so strong so to he can be a foil to Jin. To show Jin that he could have been just as strong even without heichachi training.
Yes king ultimately loses but he gives Jin a hell of fight for it.
So, the anime is Trash
Жаль Пола, он достоин лучшего
In that case every single character deserves to win.
Lore? dude real King was strong that even Ogre after him. but new king is stronger than old king which make sense he defeated Paul. Ogre didnt even care about Paul. and you compare in game Paul is strong? seriously in game?
@@luqmanalinoordin6804 Not in game like gameplay wise. He means the actual canonical story that transpires throughout the mentioned games. Paul was literally first rival to Kazuya and the one to beat Ogre in his first form during T3 tournament.
You could say he always had that kinda comedic aspect to him with getting late for his match in T1 or leaving Tournament after beating Ogre in T3 because he thought it was over but they literally turned him into full on comedic relief character in later parts and I guess that's why many people don't know how high in pecking order he was.
Paul Phoenix: I'm the strongest fighter in the universe!
King: Nah.... not today.
King- *Grows* (That's Cute)
Canonically according to the real tekken game, paul defeats king and ogre, but leaves the stage thing he has won, then true ogre emergrs and jin takes all the glory

@@ismailtopa3671 bro its canon for gods sake, have u played tekken 3,2 and 1, only legends know the truth, u have no right to make random statement, paul was deemed equal to kazuya in tekken 1, and beat ogre in tekken 3, its fully canon but u dont know cause ur not a tekken fan
@@zenitsuagatsuma9075 cry loser
To anyone saying they ruined Paul's character again. Do note that he almost beat Kazuya in the previous tournament and Heihachi even mentions that if not for the devil gene Paul would have defeated Kazuya so he was the runner up of previous tournament. And about King beating him in this tournament looks pretty fair to me because King's character has more of a reason to get the win and use the tournament money for orphanage. Also Paul lost to a main Tekken character who's there since the first game.
But paul vs kazuya is draw
So Paul lost because of plot. And yeah, it took another main character for Paul to lose, speaks volumes of how strong Paul is I’d say.
Except this was supposed to be based on tekken 3 where Paul is undefeated even against first form ogre…
Lore wise King is not the same King from first 2 games but died by Ogre. King is an orphan from original orphanage that when under in the 2nd game
That's bullshit. They sure have no idea on Kazuya's strength.
Man my main character king survives Paul's burning fist

Plot Armor King
Why do they make king look like the bad guy man is the nicest person under the mask I’m happy he made it to the end though. Gotta love my main!
Hopefully if there is a second season will get more background info on him and the others. There's always been hints of the mask having properties. Plus only being able to communicate with Jaguar roars while wearing the mask helps give the character monster vibes.
He was not a bad guy here. King entered the tournament to avenge his predecessor king that was killed and wanted to donate his cash prize to the the orphanage if he wins
@@GildedReaper1113 they made king the bad guy against xiaouyu. u can clearly see it. and even jin is like king is his greatest obstacle in the tourny.
@@mr.leroysmith7012 yeah because he needs to win the prize to give it to the charity which his predecessor care about.
@@mr.leroysmith7012 There was one subtle moment where King showed to be concerned about Xiaoyu when she was in hospital but it goes on by second. When King checks out to see if she is alright and accidentally opens the door.
Say what you want, but it's great to see Paul be portrayed as an actual fighter again and not a joke.
Do wish he won though, as much as I love King

I love that Tekken canon has just agreed that King’s head IS a jaguar, and that he sees/breathes/speaks through it as if it were part of his own body
He didn't growl that much
In the game this was based on, Tekken 3, the canon lore is that the finals was between the old rivals Kazuya and Paul. Jin didn't even make it. Paul was the canon champion, defeating Ogre, but for some reason he didn't stick around to fight Ogre's True form. Jin was the one who swooped in and defeated True Ogre to complete his vengeance. I actually do like the choice that it'd be King in the finals because of his noble intentions.
1:33 Chef's kiss for that Tekken 3's leg counter
0:44 king is a beast
Back in the day alot of people i know would main paul and king in tekken 3,nice seeing them get the recognition they deserve
Despite I like the fact King gets the love and respect he deserves this looked a bit unfair.... Paul in T3 era was a beast... he is actually even unofficial champion, The King here is the new one in his early days and Paul would definitely beat him... And as we all know after the 4th game Paul turned into big joke ...
Yeah paul was actually the one to defear ogre. I get why they wouldn't want to do that here but at the very least have jin fight paul. It would even fit more story wise since jin beating kazuyas rival would show they are close in power
After the 4th game*
@@Shiratto
Yeah 4th game had great ending for Paul
I love both of these characters so if Paul was gonna lose im glad it was atleast against King. I still wish Paul won tho. I feel like Paul losing to King doesn't make sense lore wise...
True.
If this lines up with the events of Tekken 3, then Paul Phoenix originally went undefeated in that tournament, even defeating Ogre when it emerged.
It was only due to Paul leaving, and not witnessing Ogre's transformation that the tournament didn't go to him.
King has "Based on Tiger Mask" [visually. Lorewise he's based on Frey Tormenta a Mexican catholic Priest who became a Prowrestler to help fund an orphange he was taking care of] plot armor.
@@IrishKyokushin Oh, yeah.
Don't get me wrong. I generally find King to be Awesome Sauce. I just feel like they shorted Paul here some.
First King was 3rd place, just behind Paul, so there shouldnt be much of a difference between them, feels like it could go either way. This was also the second King, we can assume he was trained by the first one to make him better than him.
Either way, I am glad both OGs were showned as strong
you're right. Still I don't care. I'm hella glad king won
That's cool how they had made Paul do his combo.
This show really loves King. He embarrasses Paul( A top tier in the og Tekken trilogy) and Xiouyu(one of the best characters who just beat Nina Williams, a pro assassin). This show is amazing
Just like the game. You can beat up king all round, but if he grabs you thats death.
For the curious, in in-game lore (unless its been retconned) Paul actually beats first form ogre and then leaves before ogre revives as true ogre. That's when Jin beats true ogre. Paul is a bit of a comical character so it's played off for laughs like he would've won the that tournament but fked up.
The show took some liberties since we all know the game Paul went undefeated in T3 but left after beating everyone. Also here he was hyped to tie with Kazuya and was beaten later in the flashback which is correct to the lore. I would have loved to see Paul peace outs after beating Ogre. Then Jin and the other characters could have fought True Ogre but seems they wanted Paul to be the supporting character along side Jin fighting Ogre.
Only in Paul's arcade mode ending.
Some liberties? I would say that it was made with pure liberty. They instated like 20% of canon into it.
For all the comments that mention that paul was done dirty.... King vs Paul is a kind of match that could go either ways every time it happens. Both are quite evenly matched and OG tekken characters.
Luchadors are kinda like wrestlers where they’re good at tanking hits like crazy, but being able to tank a pauls unblockable death fist is stretching a bit too far lol he was able to one shot kuma with that. I know king is tanky but don’t be so obvious with the favoritism bamco

@@alexsaber96 In the og game events happen just like this anime(Except Ogre absorbing heihachi to go T.Ogre form. It didnt presented here.)
Paul was wildly popular in T3 days due to do though attitude so they added this story in his T4 prologue. While it was easy to write "Paul beat Ogre" in a paper that was absurd and crates plotholes. Because since ogre is the final boss only way to reach him was defeating everyone including jin and heihachi. Also how could someone thought he win a tournament and left ? And how could he thought he won tournament and left and jin reappearing to beat T.Ogre. He lost to paul in the middle of tournament but defeated T.Ogre regardless like wtf. When Triple H had hair and Tekken coulda made a live action movie YEARS ago, I always thought he'd be perfect as Paul Phoenix and his Triple H's name IS Paul. That Tekken 4 ending when Paul had hair his down with the beard, he looked like Triple H.
I thought he looked like Edge in his ending stills where he's partying.
I CANNOT unsee this. Now I see HHH in Tekken
No way King could beat Paul in a straight up fight. But this was still awesome.
If you are talking Tekken 1-3 King against Tekken 1-3 Paul, no way King wins. This is Paul in his prime and at his best. Tekken 4 King vs Paul, it is anyone's match. Tekken 5 King vs Paul, then I give it to King. Tekken 5 Paul and beyond, he is a joke character.

T4 says that Paul won this tournament and jin beat true ogre. Why'd they change that?
Paul didn't win T3, actually -- he walked away from Ogre thinking he had KO'd him and won when he actually hadn't, and thus accidentally disqualified himself. LOL
Sure but the wiki literally says Paul beat everybody that got matched against him up to ogre
"Paul went undefeated through the entirety of the third King of Iron Fist Tournament and was even victorious against Ogre. Swelling with pride, Paul returned home. However, Paul's happy ending was short-lived. Unknown to Paul, Ogre morphed into his second form - True Ogre - and the tournament continued after he had departed from it."
I guess they didn't want the plot to be predictable?
@@opo3628 He still would have finished third.
About time king got some love for how strong he really is. The first character I got good with. That's why he's my favorite Tekken character. Every sense one. Him, law and Eddie
I love that they use their actual movesets for the animations. Awesome.
That has to be the most brutal Muscle Buster King has done.
Tekken Bloodline is just like Pirates Of The Caribbean because they don't have Star Wars Sword.
In the mainline continuity, Paul not won, he managed to make it to the finals and somehow defeat Ogre; however, he left early and Jin ended up defeating Ogre in his True form.
I really wish they still had King just speak in Jaguar noises.
I just gonna say:¡That's incredible!!!,all hail the real KING!!!.
I wish the sound effects in the game had this much impact.
In tekken 4 video game story about Paul, he was undefeated through the Tekken 3 and won over Ogre but not its' true form.
They should have shown more of king moves . As a king main i was expecting a lot more
I like how you can IMMEDIATLY tell which move a character is using if you've played the Tekken games at all.
Say what you will about the show, but that's one thing that absolutely deserves praise.

The closest will ever get to king actually being half human and half jaguar lol
King should have done the growls. Seriously, the main flaw of this show (apart from the lack of episodes due to the budget cuts), is the characters spoke. They should have been the same as from the main games.
They brought the darkness of this video game back and it was done well
King was the first character I ever chose in Tekken. Stuck with him all the way till Tekken 5. Watching this series, I'm so happy they did my boy justice. Kind of fell of the fan wagon for awhile, but with Tekken 8 around the corner, I think it's time I brushed up on my Tekken skills and Try out Tekken 6 and 7.
I liked this series. It was definitely better than that Tekken Blood Vengeance movie that came with the Tag 2 prologue game. This was was more an anime that screamed Tekken
Much better than the animated film from the 90s too, and the 2010 live action film.
The real Paul Phoenix was never a dumb arrogant street brawler. He was a passionate fighter that found the thrill in the fight. That's why he would join every tournament. He never gives up in becoming not the strongest in the universe, but to be champion.
In the base game Tekken 3, Paul was in finale and defeated Ogre!
Paul is just crazy
Wow I gotta watch this I didnt know there was something like this that was actually good, been dreaming of something like this for 20 years
I wouldnt mind if King won the tournament and beat Jin.
King is the peoples champ.
Jin can deal with Ogre outside of the tournament. Whereas King is fighting for a cause.
shut up. Jin is the protagonist and a mishima
I'm still salty with the results of this fight lmao
im happy about that hope paul loses more fights
I am happy King won
king is better than paul
Why?
@@shenelljohnson74 Just the fact that Paul actually NEARLY won in the original T3 lore, beating everyone including Ogre's base form.
I'm still salty, but I understand why they had to make this decision; Paul mustn't overshadow Jin's arc, and it was necessary to showcase that Jin can express empathy to others, namely to King as their goals are very similar.
I kinda wish Paul would shed his joke character status already... He was meant to be one of THE strongest fighters in Tekken but he was sidelined all of a sudden and now his power levels were hugely nerfed ever since as well, which i find really sad.
What’s crazy is that move that king did , definitely takes mad health from your bar lmfao
