During my college days, I came to know about the name Fuat sezgin, 40 years before, in 1984. I was doing my degree. One our professor was an atheist (ex muslim). He used to criticize, blame and mock Islam in class room. I was newly ideologically changed from communist to islamic. Once he argued religions particularly Islam is against science. I objected. He challenged me to show at least one muslim scientist. At that time there was no internet available for us. I went thr a research for one month. Information source was only libraries at that time. I gave him a 30 pages essay regarding this subject . Gave him a list of 20 scientist for he asked one name. Many were authors of 200 to 250 books. I wondered about the ignorance of etheist people. It was at that time, i came to know this name Fuat sezgin. His work on history of Arab islamic science 17 volumes book. I couldn't collect that book, the orjginal is not english.

Actually if you open the original manuscripts of every work of the era - including the medicine book of Ibn Sina, it starts with Hamd and swalath. They praise the prophet for bringing them out of ignorance. The book on algorithm by Khawarizmi goes beyond the initial praise. He directly states that the reason for writing this book is because the inheritance rules of the Quran and zakat require such a work explaining the mathematical concepts that can solve such problems. Later the mathematical problems solved in the book are directly questions of zakat. There’s also the setting in the society where waqf institutions laid foundations for social mobility in society where anyone in the lower class could gain education all the way to higher levels.
Another aspect of the growth of learning during the era is that the earliest advances in linguistics and fields born out of that branch like even cryptology were purely born out of Quranic research. (Those curious can look up Arab origins of cryptanalysis) So much so that centuries later, even Jewish scholars began to codify Hebrew on the basis of Arabic( Lookup Saadia Gaon , Hayyuj etc and their relationship with Arabic)

During my college days, I came to know about the name Fuat sezgin, 40 years before, in 1984.
I was doing my degree. One our professor was an atheist (ex muslim).
He used to criticize, blame and mock Islam in class room.
I was newly ideologically changed from communist to islamic.
Once he argued religions particularly Islam is against science.
I objected.
He challenged me to show at least one muslim scientist.
At that time there was no internet available for us.
I went thr a research for one month. Information source was only libraries at that time.
I gave him a 30 pages essay regarding this subject .
Gave him a list of 20 scientist for he asked one name.
Many were authors of 200 to 250 books.
I wondered about the ignorance of etheist people.
It was at that time, i came to know this name Fuat sezgin. His work on history of Arab islamic science 17 volumes book.
I couldn't collect that book, the orjginal is not english.

Actually if you open the original manuscripts of every work of the era - including the medicine book of Ibn Sina, it starts with Hamd and swalath. They praise the prophet for bringing them out of ignorance. The book on algorithm by Khawarizmi goes beyond the initial praise. He directly states that the reason for writing this book is because the inheritance rules of the Quran and zakat require such a work explaining the mathematical concepts that can solve such problems. Later the mathematical problems solved in the book are directly questions of zakat.
There’s also the setting in the society where waqf institutions laid foundations for social mobility in society where anyone in the lower class could gain education all the way to higher levels.

Another aspect of the growth of learning during the era is that the earliest advances in linguistics and fields born out of that branch like even cryptology were purely born out of Quranic research. (Those curious can look up Arab origins of cryptanalysis) So much so that centuries later, even Jewish scholars began to codify Hebrew on the basis of Arabic( Lookup Saadia Gaon , Hayyuj etc and their relationship with Arabic)
