How To CUT A Geode! | Lapidary for Beginners

- What’s up everyone! My name is Tyler, I'm also known as the Geode Cracker & Collector. Here’s is the second installation of my trio of 'how to open a geode' videos! (The first one is here: • How to CRACK a Geode w... ) This edition is how to cut a geode! And this isn’t specific to geodes, this is for any rocks or minerals you want to cut! (I just like geodes! 😅) This is video with intentions of being an understanding of lapidary for beginners, so it is a bit drawn out. There is geode cutting content after the explanation!
To cut a geode you’ll need a wet tile saw! I use a tile saw that a add a water source to and it and it works fine! I plan to upgrade to the 10” trim saw by Hi-Tech Diamond but until then, this will do!
This is a bit of a longer video but I wanted to touch on all things you’ll need to have and consider before you can cut your own geodes or rocks! Always practice caution when using any type of power tools, and PLEASE use all PPE!

Thank you!! This video was perfect, I was really worried about the cutting process being dangerous; getting my hands too close, rocks flinging off the blade if I didn’t hold it well enough, etc. and this really helped ease my mind and helped me visualize what I was actually going to be doing… I appreciate it!

I am recently retired and have been a rockhound since a kid collected lots of animal, wood, and even mushrooms fossils and over 150 geodes I have collected over the years bot have yet to cut one... I have one That continues to contain the water it was created from.. You can hear it with a shake.. Funny how I came across your interesting channel at this moment because I am bored, have plenty of geodes, and already own a tile saw... Not going to touch The one that contains the dinosaur piss.. lol Happy hunting.. rocks that is..

lol I remember when I got into rock hunting. I would just smash em with a hammer and see what I had lol. I ruined quite a few nice specimens but oh well I had nobody to help me get into this hobby so it's been a major learning experience, these days there a million online references its really changed the game.

Some I do sell, mainly I enjoy collecting them and learning what’s inside, and I’ve got a pretty epic display in my garage 😎🤘🏻

Hey man. Why don't you fill your saw box with water like they're designed for? Doesn't yours have the drain plug and fill line inside? Also, you could always take the tall area that wouldn't get cut if you went full depth, and work through with that as your first cut, then do your one deep cut without spinning. I've never cut where you pull towards you but I only ever do tile and stone fir construction .

Hey! This one is super old haha. That old saw didn’t have a water basin inside so I had to Jimmy the water set up. This spring I’ll be recreating this video with a proper lapidary saw 🤘🏻 much easier on that

Why not make marks with a carpenter pencil or some marker? When I cut tile we use pencils and a metal squares.
Having spent tons of time with family in Iowa.... Keokuk, Iowa where geode park is, is pronounced key- uh- cuck.
"Key" like a key, "uh" like you are saying um and "cuck" like duck but with c.
Do any of the geodes in your collection fluoresce??? That would be neat to see.
