I disagree on the Bay area.. west end is beautiful, and there are a few rough neighborhoods, but the good outweighs the bad. West end homes close to the river are high value, and the people are really friendly. Lots of kids at the park playing basketball and even have an open community garden. Beautiful parks and greenspace, too. 😊😊
There are mostly very good areas in the bay ward. Unfortunately there are some places of a few block radius' to avoid such as very close to bayshore shopping center and down in behind farmboy. Otherwise its good and for realestate it has been low on the radar for years due to an older demographic and continues to appreciate. Rideau and Byward Market are top on my list to avoid and getting worse over the last 10 years.
Personally I'd stay away from the Rideau Street / Market area. Tons of crap there all the time.
Just stay out of all downtown, Centretown is a cesspool of druggies, scumbags and mental patients. You can see the fake junkies selling their #SafeSupply every morning in front of the 'pharmacy' on Montreal Rd, so they can buy their crack for the morning.
I have no advice on moving here except don't. Stay out of Toronto, too. In fact get out of all the big cities, you're not safe, your rent is $2000 cuz you're buying crack for the people pooping on your doorstep, it's all going to shite, and you ain't seen nothing yet.
I live in Barrhaven and I agree with what she’s saying
Will be moving to Ottawa, soon. Thank you, for the heads up.
I would also avoid upper Overbrook in Presland, Prince Albert, Queen Mary, and King George because there is a lot of Public Housing where the kids and parents tend to be rough. One should not live in Lower Town and near the Market area downtown because there are too many rough people and there are many public houses.
Dude south keys needs to be on the list I lived in blossom park for years (in south keys area) and between drug dealers people chasing people with pipes…. Murder…. Ummm yah it isn’t good….. I moved to Embrun.
Very honest as always . Hi Candice
Thanks Rawlings! :)
Thank you for information.
I've lived in and had friends that lived in these neighborhoods, and what she is saying is accurate.
15 year old was stabbed to death in nepean last week.
Ottawa looks nothing like the postcards !
You are quite wrong about Carlington. This area has many highly educated people living in it . Consequently it has a very engaged community Association. Its central location near the hospitals and shopping centres makes it an attractive choice for many people. It is close to Carleton University and downtown by transit. The Veteran style neighbourhood are also great starter homes. it has Public, Catholic and Private elementary schools, A Jewish Community centre, and three high schools are close by. Some parts do have crime, but overall it is a good neighborhood.
I lived on Shillington, and I saw her points. It led the city in stabbings back then(5 years ago) and I don't think it changed much.
"Highly educated". Putting educated anywhere in Ottawa is like calling a Priest a biologist.
@@keahililia8208 Due to its proximity (walking distance) to Carleton University many professors live in Carlington . Many other PhDs live here who work in in various parts of the region.
@mychael.kostiuk it's not walking distance unless you like hour long walks. Biking distance ya not walking, especially if there is any weather. Maybe your thinking about the glebe or old ottawa south?
@@scobo4743 It is a pleasant walk from Carlington to Carleton via the Experimental Farm. There is access across the Canal via the Hartwell Locks. Even quicker by bicycle. This is one of the safest walk or bicycle connections in the whole city.
People from 70&90 Landry st. gonna hate you
Hi Candice, what affordable neighbourhoods would you recommend for young singles? :)
Thank you
East end of town, as most cities in North America, it seems
What about Center town????
Aww, yeah, Bell Street north
I was riding my bike home, July 25, 2003, on the bike path near Donald when out of nowhere I get taken out by a baseball bat. I was lucky according to the doctor in emergency. I don't live there anymore. Crime has gone through the roof. It's a shame, it was such a nice place at one time but not anymore.
Hello Ottawa expert ❤
Hello!
Your information is so superficial as to be quite useless. According to you, the best areas are far outside the city; classic suburbia. Are these the areas where you have listings?
Don't forget the bedbugs and cockroaches overbrook and Vanier
I lived in Ottawa for one year and moved back to Winnipeg so that's telling you something
Thats a story worth its own book
There’s a lot that can be said about that…
I lived in Winnipeg for one year and that was enough. Couldn't wait to get out.

Le coût de la vie à Ottawa
aujourd'hui, c'est trop haut !!! Il n’est pas étonnant que tant de gens ne choisissent pas d’y vivre.
Lol byward is the worst by far
Women cant go out at night now it was not like this 10 years ago.....
BS. Any place woman should not go, men should not go either.
Appreciate your insights but feel that you should be careful of spreading misconceptions and stereotypes about neighborhoods.
Britannia/Bayard is an awesome place to live, great location, friendly people and diverse.
I have raised a family here and feel safe...meaning we don't have to be anymore cautious than living in Barhaven.
Please do more research before you feed into ..."reputations"
VANIER BEST-GOOD-BAD. When I came to the Ottawa Region MANY years ago I was told to AVOID Vanier. Vanier use to be the worst area in the city with ONLY a few streets, (I have the old city maps). I guess the Rich should now avoid the Rockcliffe area (no longer on Commercially sold maps) since it is now under the Vanier-Rideau Umbrella. There are pockets of bad areas, but it contains a lot of middle class neighborhoods and some very rich ones too! I believe the city did this re-drawing of the city map for this region (about 6 years ago) to destigmatize the areas around Vanier. And no longer pinpoint the Rockcliffe area (on a map) the "rich neighborhood" making it less of a target for crime. (Rockcliffe would account for that 40% of unaffordable Housing). AND those BAD areas while they still have their problems, they have become less problematic since the legalization of weed (6 years ago, 2018, and a reduced Youth population, no second Boom, that created a higher demand for it). I guess it may take awhile before the word gets around the NEW Vanier is way different from the old with potential more than 15x the area and population (over 18,000) that it use to have ( just 2 or 3 main streets). Welcome to some of the new Ottawa History!!!
"Vanier is a relatively good area to raise kids. There are lots of great schools, parks, community centres, and daycares. That being said, certain parts of Vanier can be more dangerous at night." Vanier - Ottawa Real Estate - New Purveyors newpurveyors, com › vanier
You're damn wrong about bayshore lady
Only safe places are the Glebe it's a richer area or people study no gangs, the rest of Ottawa is bad now.
😂 drugs everywhere in the city, so are gangs and the violence... No where is immune
So an annual after tax salary of 39k is gonna make you homeless ? WTF ..
Ontario?
Oh Canada...😢
Ottawa is Canada's worst kept secret. What a dump.
Whatever karen . . .
