I’m using this identical setup, mobo and cooler since 2011!! Yeah we’re still out there believe it or not haha. It’s been almost 12 years, I can’t believe it! I haven’t overclocked much so that’s why I think it’s lasted so long. I will be upgrading in 2023 so in the meantime I’m going to OC to 4.5ghz and give her a run for her money one last time. Great chip, great video!!

I've had mine running at 4.5g for more than 10 years and this beast is still going! All on the same Corsair AIO water cooler too! Amazing how long this has lasted me.
This desktop started on a 570GTX and has outlasted many generations of GPUs over the last decade! I just upgraded the GPU to a 6650XT.
I'll probably finally upgrade to a 12600k this year on black Friday. It'll be hard to say goodbye to my old 2500k friend lol. This chip is legendary!

Great video mate thank you from Australia. Yes I've owned this exact chip I5 2500k. I brought it in 2011 when released and it is STILL going strong today. Same Z68-UD4/B3 motherboard as I originally had in there and also a GTX 680 2GB. Oringinal Gskill sniper ddr3 1600mhz ram, 8gb. All cooled in a corsair 600T mid tower with a H100i twin fan AIO cooler. It's been my only gaming PC since 2011. I have had kids since and thus PC took a back seat for a good while only playing a bit of war thunder here and there on the weekends. Until.... I found Escape from tarkov which my brother in law introduced me to on his "new" R7 5600x cpu, b450 mobo, 32gb ram over 4 slots. And a 6600gt card. Well.... without a word of a lie. I fell in love with the game so came home to attempt it on my machine.... my gtx680 struggled on high but ran one map perfectly so, I went back down the OC journey I once took years ago. I've upped mu vcore to 1.36, 1.9v on my ram with matched timings, I've upgraded the ram to a second hand pair of 8gb sticks so now I have 1600mhz running on xmp profile 1 standard ( stable ) but the CPU I have bumped to a X 48 @ 104mhz per core. And also updated my gpu to a 3060ti 12gb card. Let me say, cpu z is punching out 655 avg on the same test you did and escape from tarkov.... has pissed my brother in law off that my PC runs it better than his.... deadset. He hasn't played with me since hahahaha. Buy yes awesome chip, do you know its cook off temp ? I get a 4 cores at FL and I'm sitting at 68 - 72 Celsius. I think the death temp from mem is near 95 so. I'm well happy hahaha can post legit stat's to if no one believes how good this chip over clock's. Love this chip, got one brand new for a build back in mid-2011 with 8gb of ram (1600mhz) and a gtx 460. On day one with the stock cooler, I overclocked it to 4.5ghz. Since then I have upgraded the GPU every few years, gtx 560 ti, gtx 570, gtx660, gtx 660 sli, Titan Xp (2017 model) but the CPU has always been consistent. A couple of years ago I added an aftermarket cooler and pushed it to 4.7ghz with no issues and a big drop in temperature. Last year I switched the ram out for 16gb of 1866mhz and the CPU is still going. Only Kingdom Come Deliverance could humble the CPU when you increased the draw distance. We will never see the sort of price to performance of this chip again, although the Alder Lake gen is finally starting to make it look tempting.

People are now doing retro reviews of the CPU that I'm still daily driving at 4.5 GHz with a GTX 970. Although as far as I remember with a voltage offset, not a set voltage. I assume it aids longevity. Haven't tried the brand newest games but reinstalled Snowrunner yesterday and it runs like a charm at 1080p mid/high settings. In 2011 I thought I would have to replace it around 2015, in 2015 (when I did replace the original GTX 560 Ti) I thought I would have to replace it around 2019, in 2019 I just gave up on planning an upgrade schedule and started marvelling at every extra year I could get out of this little wonderboy.

@@nexus_tech I've grown to dislike Intel's business practices but actually I've had a 1650v2 (nearly identical to 4930K) and an NVME on a PCIe adapter (requires a patched BIOS and Win 7 installation if you're not using a newer Win version) lying around since last year, the motherboard I got for it at a later point just happened to be faulty and I haven't yet found another one for a decent price. It's less a necessary upgrade and more plain old curiosity and an opportunity to check quad channel memory, a hilarious number of PCIe lanes, SLI (going to get another 970) and on the occasion also 3D Vision (already have a monitor, just need a cheap set of glasses and transmitter) off the bucket list. Planning on completing the build this fall and then use it for only two years or so before an actual upgrade with actual new parts (Ryzen 7000 3D or even Ryzen 8000 by that point?).

amazing chip and amazing video :D! One thing that I reccomend is to NEVER use more than 4x MSAA in GTA V because its extremely heavy (like hairworks in the witcher 3) and you get no real visual benefit other than having half the fps. I'd reccomend to not use it at all if playing in 4K because at such high resolution you don't really need antialiasing.

Planning to get an OEM second hand Intel PC, because my GPU is bandwidth limited in a Pcie 2.0 x 16. R7 260x 1gb was underutilized in control, rift breaker and doom 2016. Overclocked the following stuff: fx 8300, athlon 760k, phenom Ii 955T, and Oland to Bonaire gpu series. No luck with Intel.

Lol are you genuinely running a 1gb card today? How is that even possible. I was going to mix and mash an old second hand rig together for more relaxing games to be played on my tv, using the 260x 2gb with a 2500k. They pair nicely.
I will also be using the Nimez drivers too

@@re2590 Yes. GTX 460, R7 260X, R5 240. During the study at home covid period, I bought and modified several low end second hand OEM computers for my kids for online schooling and gaming at home. Some game are well optimized to run at 1 gb VRAM. Just a lot of trial and error. Nimez not needed for GCN 1.0 and above. I used Nimez 21.5.2 for a HD 5770.

Moved too a Ryzen 5600 December 1st from this chip at 4.5 ghz, keeping my 1660 super for a while longer.
Gonna be my testrig too mess about with some stuff, currently as a testrig it sits at 3.7 ghz on all cpu cores as im using a stock cpu cooler.
Performance simply wasn't there for borderlands 3 too play smoothly & gta online.

      @@nexus_tech The I5 2500k ?
Gonna keep it around as a testing rig with my old motherboard & ram too mess about with from time too time with graphics cards & older benchmarks like 3dmark 2001se, 03 etc...
Don't think I'll be able too sell the motherboard as the onboard sound is dead & i had some weird issues with usb as well at one point few months ago so it might be a goner in a while anyway.
Ram is just two different pairs of 1600 mhz 4 gb sticks so nothing special there really pair of red a-data xpg i think they are called. & corsair vengence with the tall coolers on there.
Motherboard is a Asus p8 z77-v lx so not exactly a great board anyway.
Atm it's sitting with the stock cooler running at 3.7 ghz & Atlas OS 20H2 i think it was on an old 160 gb mechanical hdd.
1660 super I'm using for my main pc for now if you are wondering about that.
(Motherboard atm is a MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX i bought used for 850 sek or about 80 usd June this year.)
16 gb kingston fury 3200 mhz kit also bought around june for 61 isd or 649 sek, got this new rather then a used kit.
Cpu cooler is the Noctua nh-u12p se2 which i just bought the AM4 mounting kit for like 99 sek or 10$ works great on the 5600 & cost basically nothing.
Keeping it until i can set aside money for something with rtx 2080ti ish performance either used or new, & then it's gonna go into my lil brothers system probably which will be getting a gtx 970 tomorrow i picked up used for 60$.

Lol I see so many people with decent gpu's in with cpu, even up until recently :O I missed a lot on pc's over the years with life situations, ended up buying a console and stuck with it up until 2 years ago, bought a 5800x with a 6600xt and 16gb 3800mhz cl14 ram. Been happy since.
But I did buy this exact cpu to pair up with another oldie a 260x Dco2 OC 2gb gpu, for a budget build. One I can use on my tv and less competitive games you could say. I saw a few games run on this gpu, it's ok. Nothing elite or amazing, its just for some older games off gog like dynasty warriors and stuff so should handle it fine I guess. But surprised to see so many people using 2060's, 970's etc, haha I would have thought this cpu would have bottlenecked loads.
I saw someone even testing up to a 3070 and still getting 70-100 fps lol. I don't know why I spend so much money on my 5800x now lol

too bad 4 cores isn't enough nowadays, causing stuttering on games, which is even worse than having constant 30fps

My 2500K was a golden chip. I remember putting it to 4.2ghz without touching anything at the stock voltage 1.2 and it was stable. Then with a better cooler had I had her at 4.8ghz for daily use and even ran some cinebench R15 at 5ghz with a score of 638.

I have a golden 2500K which hits 5.2GHz stable with water. Probably is capable for even more, just would need even beefier cooling since I need to go above 1.5V.
