His paints tend to look even better in an airbrushing machine. They still look good hand painted, but air brushing takes them to the next level. Especially with the mirror paint. The difference is crazy.
Whaaaat?! Oh my goodness, I need to tell my husband that! He does airbrushing on his DnD minis lol. Thanks for sharing!
@@MiraByler Please do show them if he uses them! 😊
Ooooo! That's really interesting to know! Thanks for sharing. I may have to buy some of the mirror paint.
Pretty snazzy! There's a really wide range from convincing to cheesy with gold paint, and that did look quite good. There's a long tradition of making tiny amounts of real gold paint, for illuminated manuscripts and icons. The hard part is reducing a soft, chewy metal like gold to tiny particles of pigment. One historical method involves wrapping gold leaf around dried dung and burning it, then sifting the gold from the ashes. The other method we know involves grinding gold leaf in a mortar and pestle with salt as an abrasive grit. Afterward, water is used to dissolve the salt, and the gold powder falls to the bottom. Kind of neat, huh?
That is pretty cool! I wonder who decided to burn it with dried dung. 😂
@@MiraByler We've learned over the years that artists will go to extremes for their work! #1 and #2 come up surprisingly often in the history of art materials- lead white made using the coil process used both (and lots of it). Thanks for the reply!
Yes! I love the idea of priming a canvas with gold - can’t wait to see it 😊
Agree about the warm/cold thing. The paint looks more elegant than the marker for sure
Mmmmmm... shiny.....❤ I cannot resist a flash of gold in my art so this was very satisfying to see. Loved the golden touch on these items. (The gold hour glass is my favorite.) Seeing the Starbucks cup reminded me of the sweet surprise in my cozy mystery box. Never expected a customized cup but there it was. A special treat 👍👍
QOTD: (question of the day) I haven't played board games in a long time, but when I did, I loved "Clue" because it was one of the few games I could actually win. Also Trivial Pursuit Silver Screen Edition because I love old films and won every time 😊
Please paint or draw this: 8:28, LOL.
I absolutely love your art Mira. Please please do an underwater / coral reef painting. You've never done one like that. Maybe similar to the one you did on your Starbucks cup. It would make me so happy. Thank you
You are the reason I love those gold deco markers. They stink, but they are gorgeous.
I like all of them. They are so pretty!!
I've used sally hansen color foil nail polish usually the chrome and the gold for various art projects because it has a better mirrored finish than any paint I've been able to find and it's pretty inexpensive it can be brushed or used in a sprayer without clogging it. A little tip I've learned through the years is if you use a metallic silver or chrome under coat it helps gold paint pop and have a more mirrored metallic finish
I used to love Cluedo Or monopoly and Scrabble.
Lovely gold customising 😊
Tiff and Easy Klein are my favourites. Such amazing colours
The gold hour glas on the gold plate at the end gives me dali vibes 💖
My favorite board game is Scrabble, but when I was a little kid it was some game I’ve been trying to find for years. I can’t remember the name of it, but there were these cardboard cutouts of fairy princesses with long flowing hair and magical pets. There was a yellow one, blue, pink, and purple. And you had to collect these round flower tokens to put in their hair. First to fill all the spaces wins. Simple game but it was beautiful!
Scrabble is so good!!
“I need to wrap this up before I paint everything gold” 😂not Mira being the creative version of king Midas 😂
LOL 🤣 THATS SO TRUE
The frame is my favorite but I'm amazed at the shine of the cup
So cool! I love the frame!
Speaking of which, I owe you a huge thanks! Your frame video inspired me to use frames from the thrift store for my vendor events and my signs turned out awesome and saved me so much cash!
My husband just bought Wingspan! We have a big closet devoted to all our board games. We also have a weekly board game night with friends, and it's actually tonight. Charterstone is the game of choice eight now.
Gold is not usually something I use in my art (as well as other metalic colours), bubt sometimes it is nice adding/detail to the paiting. I love your videos, again you add a bit of color to randon stuff and make it very enjoyable :D I can´t wait for another trift store makeover, where you can use this gold again :D
Played Wingspan with my kids over Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and loved that game. It's fun and so beautiful!
This looks so amazing! I hope you make more gold painted stuff! Maybe a thrift store special video where you buy things that you want to paint gold and then do it?
So glad that you chose timer/hourglass ❤️ i was hoping you would 💕💕
I love the frame and Starbucks cup! I love the idea of board game pieces! Also, maybe something that uses all of the SS line of paints?
Gesso. :P To save on doing a ton of coats I will mix a color that's similar with white gesso then paint it after. Saved a lot of Black 2.0 (I grabbed a couple bottles before 3.0 came out) painting things first with black gesso. haha Tho sometimes like with the frame, the original color showing underneath in places can be rad too. Hourglass turned out super sweet.
Fave board game, haven't tried many outside the usual Hasbo and stuff ones. So I'm gonna go with Life.
Shoutout to another boardgamimg artist! I love the classic Azule but haven't tried the new ones yet. Love love love how the tray turned out, it's so sleek and understated with the gold rim!
We LOVE playing Villainous Disney!
(I'm not into the Marvel and Star Wars extensions)
Ohhh, both golds are pretty. I don't think I have a favorite as I would use them for different things.
My favorite board game is Scrabble.
You should totally try this on board game pieces! I just did a whole project using the Mod Podge Extreme Glitter to glitter my Carcassonne meeples & it turned out soooo pretty.
That's the third recommendation for wingspan that I've heard, it clearly needs to go on my wishlist.
I love sagrada - you use dice to create mini stained glass windows - notre dame which I think is underrated and also Quarriors.
The paint looks awesome! I had to buy my own gold and copper leaf pens due to your videos and they, and a chrome pen by molotow are on regular rotation in my art. All my sketchbooks have multiple shiny pages in thwm and I blame you! 😂
WHAT?! That game sounds sweet. I will add Sagrada to my wish list if you add Wingspan to yours. :D
Hahaha, that's amazing. Do you like Molotow art products? I've never tried them!
It's now on my wishlist and will probably be purchased next time it's my turn to host game night.
I love molotow twin paint pens! They have a thick and a thin nib so I can do detail work and fill in large areas with one pen, plus they have an excellent colour range. They're refillable too which I appreciate and I absolutely recommend the liquid chrome marker, it's so shiny and smooth!
Wow thanks for turning me on to this brand 🤗 now I'm gonna need that mirror one!!
Love the gold starbucks cup!!! ❤
Hi sweet Mira! Just popping in to say hi since I'm so close to your video posting...thought mayyybbbeeee you might still be hanging out. You inspire me all the time! xoxo 💕 😊 I also love me some Stuart Semple thanks to you. Unicorn Milk for the win!! 😍🤩🤤
Ah yes!! Watch party. Just sat down to reply to comments now, so you're just in time. And yes to the unicorn milk!!!
That’s really stunning…❤
WOW!😮
Aw, fun!
I’ve never heard of the board games you mentioned…. (My husband probably has, he LOVES games and has an impressive collection of them)…. Some of my favourite board games are: Ticket to Ride, Agricola, Carcassonne, Blue Moon City, and Settlers of Catan. And My favourite card game is Dominion, and one that is kind of a combination card and board game that I enjoy, is Puerto Rico!
My favorites were the hour glass and the Starbucks cup. You should have used it on her crown too.
I love how it looks like different warm tone of gold depending what the background of what ur paint I could easily just use it at paint everything gold looks fun to use ❤
I so enjoy geeking out with you. I could watch you paint more & more. However, I do acknowledge you are busy with family et al as well as talented artist! I will be patient for more! 🥴🤗
My favorite board game is Parcheesi. In fact, I learned to count, add, & subtract watching my Grandparents & parents play from a very early age even before I could play! Sadly, my sons & grandkids are not that fond of it. I will survive! 🤗 I have not heard of your favorite.....so as Elmo says, I will look it up! 💓
I would’ve either done more of the Art Deco and painted the frame black and added gold sections or gold dry brush.
I REALLY need to try some of his stuff.... you've convinced me that I should lol
UpWords is part of my childhood along with Disney Trivia
UPWORDS IS SO GOOD!!! I used to play that with my grandma all the time. We were addicted lol
@@MiraByler it gets intense on my mom's side of the family. We get at least two games set up and have 2 games played at the same time. I won against my mom's dad(my GrandBill) once.
“If you can’t find what you see in your mind, then make it” love it! 💕
My gosh you made me jump when the cup rolled.😂😂😂 Glad I’m not the only one who has these moments 🙌🏻
You just named my two favorite board games! Great taste. I would paint everything gold if I could. Fun project ❤
A hint, if you want to not use as much of that gold paint, paint the thing, do it under coat of paint of red that will help you like a tomato red
already here great vid i love your reviews!!!!
I want to try the unicorn paint, but I think the postage to where I am was actually more than the cost of the paint. I would really love to have it, but it would cost me about $100 (Australian or $66 USD) for the small container. I would love to try some of the other products too, but that is my number one.
You love to clean, except when it comes to your crusty brushes and palettes 😂
Shiny stuff, yay=3 Love it! Now I also want something gold to paint with=3
I honestly thought this was an old video. I know how you love your gold so I've figured you'd already done this 😅
Oh my word! My husband and I have been playing Wingspan (which is what sparked the bird field journal art study I was working on), and we love the Azul games as well! Queen's Garden is definitely more challenging than the base game of Azul. Have you played Sagrada?
We loveee splendor latly
One of my favorite board games is mouse trap I like everything but I think the little hourglass was my favorite I got to get me some gold paint now I've got a little tiny hourglass like that to my little nieces used it to make sure they're brushing their teeth long enough 😊✨✨
☺️ My favourite board game exists Clue but Woodlice ravaged it. I appreciated the wooden frame. ☺️
everything should be so shiny! (hope the dentist went ok!)
im boring when it comes to boredgames lol, just give me scrabble to play lol
My favorite is dixit ❤️ there's a limited edition chocolatier version of Azul
My ultimate fav game is clue or cluedo in other parts of the world. But I recently tried settlers of Catan and im obsessed!
Wingspan is great and I highly recommend Everdell. Also a pretty game but its more complicated than wigspan
I can’t believe how reflective and opaque this is!?!? 😮 also, what’s unicorn milk?
A pearlescent top coat
Fellow board game enthusiast! I love wingspan as well but my favorite game right now is ark nova. Some elements of it remind me of wingspan, and you might enjoy it!
Thanks for the recommendation!
I dont like gold jewellery but i love gold in my paintings and in my home .thanks for sharing. My favourite board game is monopoly so boring I know 😊
Also curious what the gold would look like with different undercoats
It reminds of Rastlin Magere from Dragonlance. Definitely needs to be a piece in a d&d game now. :)
As a fan of wingspan and azul I would recommend meadow and everdell
tbh gold is not my style. i am more into silver; but i love to see your enthusiasm and fan girling over it. boosted my mood :o)
You should test his mirror paint :)
Wingspan is my husband’s and my favorite game as well! I laughed when you said that! The artwork is so beautiful. Do you have all the expansions?
My favourite board game has to be Rummikub and Uno. I distinctly remember when ever we would go away on vacation in the summer my sister brother and I would always play Uno by the pool or on the beach whilst eating watermelon.
Rummikub is so fun! Also I love that you have vacation memories associated with Uno! 💜
Whoa, I think I had an hourglass exactly like that one as a kid!
Haha, how cool!
you should try gold leaf liquid paint
I’m not really in to board games but my therapy office likes to use Forbidden Island to play with families because it’s a teamwork game. And it’s a fun game!
Forbidden Island is super fun!!
Wingspan is a really cool game! Have you been able to try the Europe expansion?
I love this picture frame idea. But I am thinking that I would cover up that dark with a beige tone to lighten; theoretically you would use less gold paint.
Yes, you could theoretically do that if you didn’t want to see the natural wood grain thru it! Depends on your preferences. I wanted the wood 😁
It’s not exactly a board game but my favorite game is probably taboo :)
God ,the cup look expensive but for sure the frame is worth the try and the time
Does washbi tape come in the Spring bye bye bundle? or would you consider just doing a mostly washbi tape box
The frame and game pieces.
I rate u should have sanded the hour glass a bit to help the paint stick more.
What would be really helpful for the coverage would be if you sanded and primed the wood first, you probably wouldn't have used as much paint too!
Yes, that would be helpful if you didn’t care about covering the wood. I didn’t want to lose the woody appearance coming thru the paint! 🥰 I swatched this gold paint on other surfaces - canvas and Gessobord - and it still needs multiple layers sadly. But still so reflective!! 🤩🤩🤩
@MiraByler ah I thought you were aiming for full coverage on the first two pieces. It is a shame that it's so thin, though. Especially for a product that's so expensive.
I bought one of the gold oil paint markers you love, and although I adore it, I found that the nibs get clogged and dried up really quickly. I replaced the cap properly, and every time I used it so I couldn't figure out why that happened. It wasn't just one faulty one either, as I tried a few of them. Do any of yours do that?
Qotd: i collect monopoly games so that's my favorite
I was actually thinking about how i could paint the pewter pieces gold or just dry brush them with this paint would be so pretty
Just so ya know, Amazon has the unicorn brushes right now!
Both amazing games, have you played the new Asia expansion? Im so excited to add that to our wingspan game.
I am hoping to soon!! I'm getting it for a friend for their birthday, and then planning to hang out with said friend to play LOL
You should get the most silver paint next
picture frame!
Can you do mother's day art gift??
I have an egg timer like thst.
You should never use the glass from a picture frame as a palette. They aren't tempered and can shatter.
I would like to see this compared to liquid leaf paint not pen
I like clue
Wait, what about the most expensive paint, wouldn’t it contain gold flakes and gold colors that then makes it the ‘Goldest paint’?
