World Exclusive! CZINGER 21C FIRST DRIVE: $2m, 1,233bhp 3D-printed hypercar | Top Gear

- This is the Czinger 21C - a 3D-printed hypercar. Weighing 1240kg - which isn’t very much - and a combined 1,233bhp (from a hybrid system consisting of a mid-mounted twin-turbo 2.9-litre V8 and e-motors for each of the front wheels) it’s fast.
In “Low Drag” configuration Czinger claims the 21C has a top speed of 281mph and does 0-62mph in 1.9 seconds, 0-186mph in 8.5 seconds and 0-248mph in 21.3 seconds. 0-248mph-0 is said to take 27.1 seconds - a Bugatti Chiron does it in 41.96 seconds, and a Koenigsegg Regera in 31.49 seconds.
Meanwhile in “High Downforce” configuration, Czinger claims the 21C makes 650kg of downforce at 100mph and 2,500kg at 200mph. Oh, and it’s just snatched the Laguna Seca lap record from a McLaren Senna.
So we had to have a go. This is what happened when Jack Rix was the first in the world to drive an early prototype of this wild car.

The interior camera is insane; looks like a fighter jet.
It has to be since you decide to inspire from a stealth fighter.
ruclips.net/video/Lov1sdU7Lyoo/видео.htmlue
Wow, so the interior camera is a nutcase then?
@@ege_x3rt187 The SR-71 isn't a fighter plane
yes
Looks like someone got the most out of the 30-day free trial of Fusion 360's generative design module
ruclips.net/video/Lov1sdU7Lyot/видео.html6
LOL They ran out of that trial quickly. Must of been expensive to use up all that compute time. Probably just have have a server farm inhouse.
🤣
Exactly. Complexity simply for the sake of it. Such marketing BS.
Won't make it in the real world. .
I didn’t realize this was the same car/company you did a walk-around of a couple of years ago. Glad to see they’ve continued progress and made something absolutely nuts!
ruclips.net/video/Lov1sdU7Lyo/видео.html
I have been following them, since the first reveal and despite set backs, covid and all that is one car I am praying for production.... Also the engine can run on liquid C02 or something with 0 emission... WTF
The cockpit is kind of like a Lockheed a-12b
Same, when I saw those internal components I remembered.
The company is in worse shape than you think. It’s highly unlikely this car will ever reach production.
WOW. That is a highly polished first car design that you don't normally see from new companies. Most are a bit too out there to stand out. Very well done!
The canopy flew off ffs?
@@dagnut Tesla Model Y's have done that when in production lol
@@thomashayhurst6547 don't get me started on that over priced garbage.
@@dagnut Ik. I just found it funny
@@thomashayhurst6547 I can dig it.. I found the Zenvo TSR-S funny and gimmicky.
The part with the 3D printing is ingenious.
You don't need a huge warehouse with spare parts so that you can still supply your customers with spare parts in 20 years. You just print them to order. At least with Hypercars.
If one of these cars survives 40 years, all you need are the CAD plans of the parts and you reprint them. Even in a better quality.
The parts are not only printed, they were designed with generative design, witch mean the shape of the parts are made by an a.i..
You could recalculate the parts for newer/better material.
wow

Firstly, Any car of this caliber that is produced in very limited quantity will cost that much! A lot of other Hyper cars that use normal manufacturing techniques cost more than this!
That's because the costs involved goes only into a few cars!
If you think 3d printing is dumb, then i feel sorry for you!
Secondly, the company is not just involved in cars, this is them showcasing the companies capabilities, the AI and ML they have developed here and the things it can do in the future will be next level, all of which they can use in manufacturing processes involved in many other fields of work and not just cars.
@@Sidowse
Funny how you say CF isn't mainstream in the Automotive sector and 3D printing to being over used, while it's far from it!
3D printing isn't New and trendy, it has existed for a long time now, just hasn't been adapted widely because, the current manufacturing methods are cheaper.
Just like how the industry went from using LCD panels as normal a few years ago and only a few companies using AMOLED panels to Almost every one using AMOLED these days!
Technology takes time to adapt!
CF is the present times normal in Automotive industry when it comes to performance cars!
There are still hyper cars that shares a lot of their internals with a lotta other cars, Companoes are still using their old engines with only minor improvements calling them all new, is because the current ICE cars and their production methods are at their limits. And it just costs way too much to make a completely new engines to get better out of existing platforms because, improvements needs to come from all sides.
Look at these cars manufacturing likes, they are either Hand made for exclusivity or just thrown at a production line with little modification done to the line to accustom the cars special needs!
The LaF, is and was a 458 pushed to it's limits, The Senna, Elva, Sabre are basically over engineered 720s', the Bugatti's are strongly linked to the VAG group, Koenigsegg basically started from a Ford's v8 block from the Ford GT (not the same engine anymore), the list could go on and on.
Not to forget, how similar todays Hypercar successor's are underneath their bodies, specially Lamborghini's!
Manufacturers like Koenigsegg and Pagani still makes cars that's are a class apart and neither am I looking down on the other cars I've mentioned above.
But I can still go under these Hypercar's body and name each part and not find anything alien at this point.
But the 21 c has a lotta alien looking stuff inside it.
Has what seems to be pretty amazing powertrain- a mix of two world's and with the AI developed, 3D printed internals, with the human mind not being a limiting factor here, things can be improved drastically!
3D Printing is not the most amazing part of this car, CNC also has to be used. It's the Animalistic Generative Design which use machine learning simulations to develop the strongest and small lowest mass shape to do a job. Thus you get that biological skeletal design. If this concept gets even more refined and production methods become cheaply scalable. It could have massive impact on the modern world.
A machine, designed and built by machines for a machine to drive brilliant!
The 3d printing is what makes this possible, it is why they can build this cheaper later and faster, even upgradeable imagine you have an accident then you can just print the parts. its like unlimited availability... Thats what makes something reliable. This is revolutionary from manufacturing stand point because theres no need to change the factory ever!! if they wanted to make new model they will use the same stuff
I agree.
@@micinboi9687 Yes. The optimization of resource use via biomimicry and printing production coupled with the relative ease of parts reproduction (bar the expensive materials used like inconel) makes this the most interesting car in modern history the way I see it. Absolutely brilliant.
basically designers will be homeless
It's not only 3D printed , many of the parts are optimized to perfection by AI/ML systems . It's truly amazing .
Of course it's not 3D printed. About 5% of this vehicle is 3D printed, if that.
@@aardvarkmindshank It's way beyond 5% or do you not understand which parts are 3D printed?
@@technosworld2 by value maybe. By volume I suspect not. And yes I'm a chartered mechanical engineer so I understand the process completely. I can also smell marketing BS from a mile away and that's what this mostly is. That's fine. But let's see it for what it is. No one in their right mind would assemble 80 cars using robots.
@@aardvarkmindshank pretty sure the engine has 3D printed pistons, heads, intake and exhaust systems.
@@aardvarkmindshank ever hear of metal 3d printing? Almost every part of this car is 3d printed or machined
I’m happy this car exists, I looks like a riot to drive. I also love the cool shapes printing allows!
ruclips.net/video/Lov1sdU7Lyoo/видео.html
I really hope 3D printing technology to quickly be inside common cars. Less weight less materials => fuel economy+less mining. We could have hatchbacks under the ton easily again, sedan under 1300-1200kg. It can be a big help
It will also be expensive
@@gorugadha6630 Actually 3D printing would be cheaper because less material is wasted, production times are shorter and with AI designed parts like the czinger has you could get parts that are lighter and stronger than anything designed by a human
@@gorugadha6630 in the beginning yes a lot, because you need to invest to change so much elements in the production lines. But later it would end up cheaper
3D printing is great for prototyping and for very low rate production. It would be tough to justify for a thousand models. Better off using CNC at that point, but the. You’d have issues with if CNC could do the crazy stuff. 3D printing can make hollow and crazy complex parts. Typical design tradeoffs
@@jamesdellaneve9005 for now yes of course, but maybe in the future? I don't know if it is possible but can we imagine that kind of production being efficient and fast enough for mass producing in the future?
Oh man that sr-71 as backdrop? That is wicked cool! 😎
Hard to believe people with slide rulers made that bad boy out of titanium nearly 70 year's ago.
Yeah, folk these days don't even know what a slide rule is, sad that we are gradually losing all our skills and relying on computers to do everything for us
Being at Willow Springs makes me wish Ken Miles was still alive to see this new era of hyper cars
I remember my fascination when you showed the production of this car, its organic-like intensities and very compact automatic production line. This is mad exciting to see the actual car and to see what it's capable of.
Man, this feels like I got a sneak peek in a brilliant future.
Thanks for making us so excited for the cars again.
Tbh that engine bay looks legitimately like the future. Glad they did something with the 3D printing that is hard if not impossible to achieve without it. It's another multi million dollar supercar, but that engine bay is actually something you could look at for hours.
When I saw the 0-248-0 mph in 27.1 second compare to chiron’s 41 and regerra’s 31. something I was awestruck. Man this is crazy insane. 🤯
What's it like over pot holes and speed bumps?
@@Markcain268 probably about the same as the chiron/regera.
@@TakumisBizarreRacingAdventure so not good then?
@@Markcain268 With the low ground clearance it'd probably be pretty bad. Definitely not designed for bumpy roads though.
1.9 secs 0-60 is very, very close to the world record for a roadcar, the Nevera. I'm sceptical but who knows.
We officially live in an age where a 280 mph top speed is no longer considered the most brag worthy thing about a car anymore.
"Better than aerospace industry tolerances"
Roof flys off…… 🤣
@re e tesla really isn't the gold standard for build quality
@re e weird, I've never seen a roof rip off a car at 70mph...
@re e wtf are you talking about the roof on the car in the video flew off, it doesn't have a front trunk
it's not a bug, it's a feature ;)
Aerospace tolerances implies that the gaps are miniscule, this doesn't mean that they've been attached correctly.
Me: mom can i borrow $2m to buy a czinger ?

This is one of the most intriguing cars to appear since the Valkyrie.
'SR-71, hands down one of the coolest aircraft ever made'- he said, standing 20ft from an A-12.
So many people think the A-12 and SR-71 are interchangeable (if they know of the A-12 at all). Which drives me nuts.
Not gonna lie, I had to google A-12 after reading this comment, I’d never heard of one before
I mean he's a brit so that's understandable
Everyone knows the A12, it was named after Elon’s kid right? /s
As another Brit, I was not aware. Cheers..
The car looks insane but that rear wing still seems to lack some stiffness 😉
Man i gotta hand it to the 2.9l v8 sounds amazing
2 seconds faster than the Senna around Laguna. That’s utterly insane.
It's amazing how little change has been done designing wise this car as it looks so close to their first car, the Divergent Blade
Also car is fully upgradable, Kevin czinger himself said that if you bought this car, as technology evolve you can change/upgrade anything in the car because it all modular, and they (engineers ) will continually improve and develop new technologies to go with the car ( such as new engines, transmission , electric motors , battery pack and etc) giving the czinger 21 edge over any other supercar ever build or yet to be build, it will always stay as top tear supercar decades to come
I love how they always trinna compare any car to the Chiron or bugatti in general. yall know what that means!!!
This video got me hyped up. Truly an amazing car!
ruclips.net/video/Lov1sdU7Lyog/видео.htmlyi
Everyone talking about the wing, I mean did anyone listen that this is pre-production?
Absolute respect for putting a prototype on social media, it shows balls 👍
The size of the door is slightly worrying thought🤔
This legitimately looks like the future with the 3D printed parts in the engine bay. I remember a documentary about a company designing the strongest car chassis with AI and it came up with the shape that looks exactly like our bone structure. Nature has answered many engineering problems we have had and still have. Amazing piece of technology.
Love the simulated evolution approach to design engineering. The organic efficiency and shapes in the load bearing structures are incredible.
This is my top dream car ever. Everything on this car is totally unique! I just fall in love of it. 😍
Indeed it is the SR-71 Blackbird for the road! Even the inside shot was also great, but without a pressure suit.
been waiting for this video! Thank you!!!
This is easily my favourite car of this century, smashes everything else out the water. Look at that fighter jet interior!!!
Saw this in the flesh last year getting unloaded from a trailer in London for the press launch after one of the motor shows was cancelled due covid.
Stunning thing, love it see it again one the road one day!
Those engine design features are beautiful 😍 you would think other manufacturers should be looking at this!
Realise that he never mentions the electric motors at all. He talks about how the ice revs and sounds. THAT is what ignites the passion. Electric motors will never come close to a screaming engine at 11,000rpm.
i am completely blown away by the design and engineering of this car, this is the future
This is what I hoped future super cars to be like, leaps and bounds over what we know and beautifully functional!
I had never heard about this car before about 2 years ago. I had gone up Mount Tamalpais for a walk and when I got to the parking lot I was planning to start out from an early prototype of this car was in the parking lot along with a film crew. They had shut down one of the roads up there and took it out to get some footage of it driving along roads.
It was an amazing looking car
While many people were looking elsewhere for the ultimate hypercar, even promoting outdated technology, I was following this. What an incredible machine.
I'm supposed to be hyped up for the new Subaru WRX but since that one was underwhelming, this one makes me happy. The story, the build process and everything about it.
Amazing edit this video 👍
It looks like something out of the old burnout games, I love it! I hope to see it pop up in future racing games because obviously I will never drive it IRL
I’d buy this over a Bugatti if I had the money. This will be a collectors car, the first 3D printed car that’s more efficient than anything we’ve seen before. Incredible
I admire these guys who invest their time and expertise to create incredible machines. This is a big achievement for such small company.
Just the perfect car! More then a car, art, passion & innovation.
Absolutely love the single seat driver look brilliant
I got to spend some time with this car a few years back. The film and description doesn't do it justice, it has to be seen in the flesh to be believed.
I must say for a heavily turbocharged engine, it sounds incredible.
Saw this at the LA Auto Show, a few years ago. It was HELLA DOPE.
Very impressive engineering and innovations! Love the idea - wish them all success - hope it filters down to us plebs, soon...,
That's the type of car I would see in Split/Second
Many cars claim to capture the essence of a fighter jet on the road, but the Czinger actually looks like a jet cockpit from the interior camera. Styling looks incredible, and the fact it's 3D-printed means parts don't need to sit around in warehouses, they can be remade as needed.
Lamborghini Reventon also did a good job
Such a beauty and great aerodynamic design
Amazing car, crazy design! Will be the next gen cars
Incredible I'm just now hearing about here amazing people. But love the CTS V Blackwing drive by at 5:41
It feels like it is alive. 3D printing is changing the feel of cars for sure.
Insane looking car and it seam fun to drive as well.
I would like to take a moment to thank the BBC for the graphics at 1:15 that distinguish between the 107.5 ft plane and the 14 ft hypercar. I was beginning to get a little confused.
Koeniggsegg of SoCal. Incredible
FYI it caught on fire at Laguna the same weekend. A bunch of buddies were there for it at HOD. It's off the hook but it's pre-production quality, aka vaporware for now. That said, 3D printed exhausts look amazing! Optimizing 3R printed design will result in stronger, lighter more responsive parts!
I have high hopes for this car and the path it could pave in the future. Trying to produce cars is extremely difficult, I hope they keep plugging away and make it happen for real
That car looks amazing
Sounds pretty sick too!
Wow, didn’t know that car was drivable yet. I actually made the gears for the front electric motors. Good to see them in action, so to speak.
They posted a video on their company youtube channel of getting a lap record at Laguna Seca last month :)

@@christopherosborne7483 To be honest, 200 mil F1 cars all wobble around, stuff bends all over the place while they are driving around. The designers know it will bend, and they are okay with it :)

It’s eye catching for sure!!!
In the age of fake new super cars, this is really refreshing. I’ll never be able to come close to buying one, but ever since seeing the original video 2 years ago, I believe this project will deliver.
FINALLY! I love this thing.
